We're getting ready to remodel a small home this summer and know a good guy that can do our kitchen, a bathroom, all the walls and floors, two bedrooms and livingrooms for under 40,000. We are buying the appliances ourselves. Very tired of hearing all these massage figures when it CAN be done for cheaper amounts of money. He's also a flipper and knows where he can get the deals. So, in my opinion the costs go up, because people are charger so much for their labor costs. So sad. We are also doing the demo ourselves, saving over 15,000.

I dont think this kitchen is going to be cheap

I actually thgt this was going to be the first remodel done stateside. I was wrong. Love the kitchen!! I would've liked it if they hung a large piece of lakeside/cottage art on the wall where those shelves are hanging next to the door. The kitchen opening is so large those tiny hanging shelves aren't doing much. The rug is gorg! And so are the dogs! =D

I don't want subway tile in my kitchen. It reminds me of an actual subway - dirty, gritty, noisy, impersonal. All the things we don't want in our kitchens.

She talks as if it was her kitchen with her taste rather than of the client. Black sink looks horrible, not clean.

Budget friendly? When you may only have 100.00 to renew the look of your kitchen, we need a real budget idea
Taylor (8 months ago)
What do you expect for $100 though? Even paint will be more than that, and then you have to include the cost of all the paint supplies you would need. $100, realistically would be cheap cabinet handles, but only if you don't have a ton, some flowers in a dollar store vase and some cute towels. You may think you can do better, but unless you're cheating in some way, like going to a thrift store or getting free stuff or using things you already have, you can't do a $100 kitchen renovation.

l like it ❤️

Everything is fine and looking good but I just don't like the cabinets drop down a bit for design because u know how much dust gonna be keeping in the gap? Hm... No thanks.
cheekyoziechick (3 months ago)
I agree.. Low enough to wipe over or else meet the ceiling so nothing can breed up there.

They never tell you the budget. If I had $20,000 budget and came in under, you could call it a budget friendly kitchen. Me, my budget would be $2,000.
Taylor (8 months ago)
Technically $20,000 is a budget for a kitchen. $2,000 is unrealistic if you're expecting a gut remodel. For $2,000, realistically, you're painting your cabinets, installing new handles, and you get your choice of either doing the backsplash OR the counters OR the flooring, but you can't do all three, and you would have to do it yourself with no hired labor.

I am tired of seeing white everywhere.  So much of it makes it bland...generic.

Ugh..watching a cottage video during the winter is as bad as watching an X-mas video during the summer.
I don't mind that the kitchen is white, but this just looks like you ripped out a page of the Ikea catalogue. Not your most inspiring design. On the bright side; you don't need a designer to pull of this look; you just need to download the Ikea kitchen planner!

This is a IKEA kitchen (grimslov shaker doors) and a IKEA butcher block counter top that is dirt cheap; Barkaboda walnut counter top ($289 for 8 feet, they just but up against each other to keep cost down, you can see the seam to the left of the sink) kitchen cabinets and counter top for this kitchen probably about $5000 if that. (2k for install of cabinets) the bulk head work and all the maintenance beforehand and flooring is where the budget probably blew up... and the design and labor fee's ;) (I design IKEA kitchens for a living haha)
Mossimo18 (1 year ago)
If the tiles are ok with you it could be regrouted (contractor would remove a bit of the old grout and redo it to fix the shoddy job) if that's what you meant about the "cementing it was a shoddy job". Just make sure to hire a better tile person :) If you just hate the tile and countertop a good finish person who works with tile and countertops should be able to remove and redo both without damaging the new cabinetry (of course depends on how bad they grouted everything and if it spills into the new cabinetry) For the sink its probably just a bad install and if its a top mounted sink should be a easy fix... if its a undermount sink then you might have to live with it (hopefully they installed it where you can remove it without damaging the countertop, so again you can have someone who knows what their doing to re grout or reseal it to the countertop) Only other options would be to do some inexpensive backsplash that stick or cover the old tile but be aware those are usually cheaper looking and a temporary fix. ex: like a wood veneer (not really for backsplashes but to give you a idea of "stick on" (STIKWOOD.COM) (also adds thickness to your backsplash and might take away from overall counterspace) Hope that help a little. :)

Mossimo18 Hey, I need some suggestions. I recently got my home done, the entire cabinetry is similarly themed, all white! However when it came to the kitchen backsplash and the sink, it looks horrible and so out of place. My interior designer used some very basic cheap tiles, cementing it was such a shoddy job. I obviously don't want to break the tiling, as it will damage the cabinets and further + increase my costs! Any suggestions as what can I do, to make it go seamlessly with the rest of interiors? Would be grateful if you can let me know!

Anything can be budget friendly if you have a big enough budget.
Glybirdy (1 year ago)
Preach, Taylor!
Taylor (1 year ago)
The problem is everyone's definition of a budget is different. Yes, $50,000 for a kitchen makeover isn't a "budget," but a $100 kitchen makeover is unrealistic, unless you're adding vases of flowers and changing out the handles yourself.

"Budget"
Taylor (1 year ago)
Everyone's idea of a budget is different. You have to be realistic. You're not gutting an entire kitchen, adding a 500 square foot addition, installing new cabinets, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a 200 square foot closet and a brand new bathroom for $10, you know?
Agent (1 year ago)
Nice renovation. Definitely cheaper than other renovations I’ve watched but this doesn’t look a budget renovation at all.. anyway, so the dogs are the owners? Lol

the way the floor and the butcher block counter match is what makes this kitchen special and pretty imho.

In Australia, a lot of insurance companies will either refuse to cover or will charge you extra premium, if you have foam insulation on your property. This is due to obnoxious fumes if your house catches fire, once the foam is alight in your wall/s its too difficult to put out and the fire will just spread.
Katie Flinn (1 year ago)
well good thing this isn't in Australia!!
Agent (1 year ago)
theresonly1teamnmelb I agree, that foam insulation will burn that house down to ashes.

Some more Open shelves instead of those boxes would look nice and make things feel bigger, maybe mimic the wood counter a little bit more?

How is this a budget breakdown? It's a nice kitchen but I'm curious about dollars and cents.
Candis Carnegie (3 months ago)
I missed the part where the interior designer said the budget was $50k. I was so focused on everything that went wrong during the demo it squeaked past me.
Bass Mainer (5 months ago)
Yeah $50k is not my idea of budget-friendly.
Taylor (1 year ago)
I feel like no matter what the budget is, someone is going to complain that it's too much. And even if it was done on a realistic budget, they might say, "Oh you did all the labor yourself," "You had some of the materials and supplies already!" or "You had friends and family help out though." You can't get a $50,000 kitchen makeover for $10 and everyone's definition of a budget is different. If you want a $10 kitchen makeover, then go to Dollar Tree and buy like towels and vases and fake flowers. You're not gutting a kitchen and getting brand new everything.
