23:29
Wim Crouwel is one of the most influential modernist graphic designers in the Netherlands. In the 1950s he personally made contact with exponents of Swiss graphic design. As part of his work as an independent designer and founding member of the internationally active firm Total Design, Crouwel developed a rational visual language inspired by Swiss Style. His imprint on the visual image of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam lasted for over 20 years.

Trailer "Swiss Style – Internationale Grafik"

02:51
*** Plain, functional graphic design is highly topical. Amidst the visual opulence surrounding us today precisely condensed posters or the carefully composed systems of symbols used in airports seem spectacular. Back in the 1960s pioneering achievements of this kind formed the basis for the international success of Swiss graphics. With founding fathers such as Josef Müller-Brockmann, Karl Gerstner or Armin Hofmann, reduced design under the name “Swiss Style” developed into a movement that pointed the way to the future. Designers like Massimo Vignelli or Wim Crouwel established the minimalist aesthetic worldwide. The exhibition traces the successful spread of “Swiss Style” and confirms its relevance with a selection of contemporary works, for instance with a critical intervention of "Experimental Jetset", an Amsterdam-based trio of graphic designers.

Making Emmentaler Style (Swiss Cheese) At Home

23:39
This Swiss type cheese is known for its delicious nutty flavour and holes. So what makes the holes? The holes or eyes develop with the addition of a bacteria called Propionic shermanii which feeds on lactose in the milk and creates CO₂, which creates the eyes. The larger the cheese, the bigger the eyes. If you have larger equipment and a big press, I recommend that you double this recipe for a better result. When made commercially this cheese is made in 60-80 kg (132 -- 176 lbs.) wheels, which aids the uniformity of the eye formation. This recipe will make a 900 gm (2lbs) wheel with much smaller eyes. Top Down Fire lighting method - 'Swiss Style'

03:50
Orion Heating now use this method for lighting all fires in the shop. It works perfectly, keeps the glass clean and most importantly needs no fiddling for one hour after lighting. The fire in this video is a Barbas 80/50 Woodburning stove. An excellent Dutch 'built-in' woodburner with a wide output range upto 20kW. If things get a bit boring skip to the end to see the clean glass and well established fire after one hour. I reload the stove with logs and they ignite in seconds, ready for another couple of hours of uninterrupted burning.

CNC Swiss Style Lathes, 4 - 11 Axis -- Ganesh Machinery

01:15
http://www.ganeshmachinery.com/ - CNC swiss style lathe without a guide bushing 4-axis 1.025" (26mm) (1.25" -- 32 mm optional) bar diameter Cyclone-25/32 CY 4 Axis (X,Z,C,Y) For more information please click: http://www.ganeshmachinery.com/site/TopMenu/Contact-Us-1-888-542-6374/Contact-Form.aspx or call 1-888-542-6374. The CYCLONE-25 is a sliding headstock , which facilitates faster setups, greater workpiece concentricity, and superior cutting rigidity over guide bushing Swiss-style lathes. The CYCLONE-25 does not require the use of ground barstock or a guide bushing like the Swiss-style machines must use and the bar remnant is l/4 the wasted length. All of these features represent a significant costs savings when using this machine design. The CYCLONE-25 CNC screw machine configuration also allows for shorter cycle times due to the enhanced rigidity and the ability to aggressively rough-out material and finish with a second tool, all while achieving greater tool life. The CYCLONE-25 can use as many tools as necessary to rough and finish a feature on the workpiece, unlike conventional Swiss machines that are limited by the length of the guide bushing, and must make the rough and finish cut with one-tool in one-pass by micro-feeding the tool. These advantages are particularly evident in work with lower length-to-diameter ratios than when machining using a standardSSwiss-style lathe with a guide bushing. Swiss type CNC lathe machine machining parts

04:17
A Swiss-type lathe is a variety of turning machine that feeds the stock through a guide bushing. This means the OD turning tool can always cut the stock near the bushing, and therefore near the point of support, no matter how long the workpiece. The machine feeds the work out of the spindle and past the tool as it goes. This makes the CNC Swiss-type particularly effective for long and slender turned parts. The Swiss-type is likely to have anywhere from seven to 13 axes. Seeing how much work can be quickly performed within the machine’s small work zone can amaze shop personnel who begin to use this type of machine for the first time. The swiss-type CNC lathe machine is from Bear and Bella Beautiful Machinery CO.,ltd. Further information please click http://beautifulbb.en.alibaba.com

Cutting Hay - Swiss Style

01:15
Here in Switzerland, since most of the hay crop is high in the mountains and on steep slopes, the hay has to be cut and collected by hand. Although, this is on the flat, we found these two guys harvesting the hay "mountain style". When the hay has been cut, it dries, just like at home, then hand raked into swaths and loaded onto trucks. In the mountains, the hay isn't baled, it's just put into the hay sheds loose.

Swiss style blacksmith's tongs

08:48
Quick tutorial on how to make the – for lack of a more adequate description – Swiss style blacksmith's tongs. These tongs can hold any shape of stock, from round over square, rectangular and flat/sheet over a wider range of sizes than normal tongs. Different to the similar Pelgrom style, they also hold the same stock perpendicularly, such as for upsetting or holding a chisel to strike. Because the ends meet, they're also better pickup tongs. In the video I use 16mm coil spring, which allows for a lighter, i.e. finer build, but normal mild steel works too. Spring steel gives you some weight savings for traveling with these versatile tongs, the drawback is you should no longer quench them in water when hot, as they'll become hardened and brittle. The pair made in the video can hold flat stock from 0.5mm to about 10mm and round or square stocks from 12-20mm. The tongs used to make them are the same style, but bigger, suitable for flat from 5-12mm and round and square from about 15-25mm (1"). You can see how versatile they are in the video. Urban Golf Swiss Style

03:25
"Urban Golf" has taken off around the world with September 10th designated as Urban Golf day. why not pick up a few tips and introduce it to your town! The fundamental difference between "Urban Golf" and its verdant brother is the lack of nature, since it is "Urban Golf". The holes include hazards but these are natural to an urban environment. Street furniture, drains, pets and garbage cans. I loved the idea of learning about local history while playing an interesting game and practicing my stroke. Urban Golf is seen by many as social commentary on the nature of golf and its traditional opinions and attitudes. Considering golf pompous, dogmatic and quite often inaccessible, urban golfers worldwide have adopted many different urban environments as their new course to engage in this recreational pastime. Commonly, urban golf organisations tend toward using disused or under utilised urban areas to play golf, not just to reduce the risk of damage or injury, but also as a statement toward the development and reuse of the city.
