Word VBA Find and Replace Advanced Microsoft Word VBA Macro Programming Sign up for $29 (75% discount) https://www.udemy.com/advanced-word-vba-online-course/?couponCode=YTOFFER1205 Excel VBA macro programming isn't all there is to VBA. Take a deep dive into Microsoft Word automation. This advanced Word VBA macro programming course is designed for users who are already comfortable with the basics of Word VBA macros, and who have progressed beyond relying on the Macro Recorder. If you are still new to Word VBA, have a look at the Udemy course "Microsoft Word VBA Macro Programming – Introduction". https://www.udemy.com/gcs-microsoft-word-vba-macro-programming-introduction/?couponCode=YTOFFER1205 This advanced Word VBA course carries on from where the above Introductory course finishes. The main purpose of this course is to take a deep dive into programming the Word VBA object model; but in a practical, hands-on kind of way. Here’s a summary of what you will learn: You will learn how to program the Application object, which represents Word itself; how to check the user's location and screen resolution; and how to check which fonts are used in a particular document. Moving onto files and documents, you will learn how to process all files in a given Folder; how to archive files older than a certain date; and how to test whether a given Document is currently open. Next, when we turn our attention to the Range and Selection objects, you will learn the similarities and differences between these two objects; and when to use one in preference to the other. You'll learn the important Word programming skills of verifying the type of object which is currently selected and checking the page location of the selection. In the chapter on Word text objects, you will learn the VBA syntax for processing paragraphs, sentences, words, characters and ranges. You will gain confidence in how to have your macros perform operations like inserting text and copying text without wiping the user's clipboard. This is also the section in which you will learn how to program the Range.Find object to find and replace both text and formatting attributes; how to change the Case of Text, how to create bulleted and numbered lists; how to use the Word VBA objects used which control the formatting of text; how to create style; and how to create tables of contents. Once we’ve covered the nuts and bolts of working with text, we'll examine the code which you need when working with longer, more complex documents. In this section, you will learn how to create sections, headers and footers; how to work with odd and even headers and footers; how to use the LinkToPrevious Property; inserting Page Numbers; insert an image into a Header; and how to program the PageSetup Object. Then we'll turn our attention to creating and manipulating tables with VBA code; performing such operations as merging cells, formatting tables, converting text to a table, we'll create a macro which will transpose the rows and columns of the currently selected table. The course also covers content controls and interactive forms. You will learn how to combine this powerful feature with VBA programming; how to create content controls programmatically; and how to write code which responds to content control events. Towards the end of the course, we'll discuss the different ways of distributing Your VBA macro solutions. And, to end the course, we'll create a series of solutions which demonstrate how to write Word VBA code which controls not only the Word object model, but the object models of other Microsoft Office programs. We'll create three inter-application solutions: the first combining Word and Excel workflows; the second Word and Outlook; and the third, Word and PowerPoint. So, by the end of this course, you will have a good grasp of all of the intermediate and advanced Word VBA programming techniques that you'll need to master, in order to feel comfortable when undertaking Word VBA projects; either in the workplace, or as a consultant.

Building a PerfectIt Style Sheet 8: Wildcards

04:44
This video tutorial looks at how you can build wildcard searches into PerfectIt. So first off, what’s a wildcard search? Wildcards are symbols that you use in search to look for patterns instead of exact phrases. So, for example, we can choose Advanced Find and Replace, select to search for wildcards, and then type in a search like this. It might strange, or perhaps even rude, but actually what we’re searching for here is the start of a word, followed by a lowercase ‘s’, followed by any characters until we reach the end of a word. If we click ‘Find’, you’ll see it locates each one. Wildcard search is an amazing way to work. It’s fast, powerful, and a great way to search for errors quickly. But wildcards can be tricky to learn. So if you’re not familiar with them, there’s a great free guide at www.editorium.com. Click on ‘freebies’ and then choose Advanced Find and Replace. Another useful resource is Graham Mayor’s Word MVP site which is a handy resource to remind yourself what each symbol means. The rest of this video assumes that you’ve spent time with those or are already familiar with Word’s wildcard search and replace features. So to start, click the style you’re working with, then click ‘Edit Current Style’. Then click on the ‘Wildcards’ tab. This tab functions almost exactly like the Always Find tab that we looked at it in tutorials 4, 5 and 6. You see four columns. The first three, ‘Find’, ‘Preferred’ and ‘Style Notes’ work exactly like the Always Find tab. The Wildcard Description is a little different. We’ll come back to that. To add a wildcard pattern, start by entering the pattern you want to look for. This works identically to Word’s wildcard search. The menu on the side has all the same special characters that are available in Word. And exactly like Word’s wildcard search, it is case sensitive. So we could add our same search, but this time let’s have it start with either a lowercase or uppercase ‘S’. Then let’s add that without a replacement entry. The style notes column lets you add reminders and suggestions. The wildcard descriptions lets you describe the pattern so that you can remember what each wildcard search means. You can use the wildcard description instead of a fix/replacement. If you fill in the wildcard description, this will also be presented to the user instead. Here we could add, “This word begins with an ‘s’.” Then let’s add another one. This pattern looks for numbers 1000 to 9999 with no thousand separator, so there’s a good chance these might be years. This time let’s add a replacement. This works just like Word’s replace function too. So you can use slashes to refer to groups that are in brackets. So let’s replace it with “AD” and then write “\1” to refer to the pattern in brackets that we’ve found. That will insert the letters “AD” before any year we choose to fix. Now let’s save those and look at both in action. The great thing about adding wildcards to a PerfectIt style sheet is that it means you don’t have to remember each wildcard pattern that you use. They are all programmed in. Even better, when you do a wildcard search, it shows you each location and lets you choose which ones to fix. That’s a powerful combination that gives you a lot of control over how to enforce your style. Wildcard search is one of the more complicated features of Word, so if you’re feeling confused at this point, don’t worry. You can come back to this topic in time. The next video will be much easier. It will look at how you can modify a style sheet as you work without even opening PerfectIt’s style sheet editor.

Welcome back. We’re still working in module 6. We’re all the way down now to section 5 where I want to talk to you a little bit about borders and shading. You probably noticed when we were working on the table that you had borders automatically. As soon as you inserted the table you have black borders that print. Well I told you that you have the option to take those off. You can actually add different borders if you’d like just to really enhance your tables. So let me show you a little bit about how borders and shading work. One of the things we talked about was when you first insert a table you automatically will have borders around that table. Borders do print. So if you don’t want them you can take them off, you can actually add different types of borders, different styles, colors, things like that. I’m going to select this table and I’m under the Table Tools contextual tab, the Design tab here. And you can see this is your Borders grouping. I’m going to start with this Borders button here. First of all you’ll notice that several of these look like they’re turned on. This will allow you to put a border around the bottom of your selection, the top, left, right. If you don’t want one of these you just click on it to turn it off. Here’s how you take the border totally off, no border. And if you do that you’ll notice now you have grey what they call Gridlines. Now gridlines do not print. They’re just there to show you the outlines of your cells. Just so you’ll know, if you don’t even want to see the gridlines then you can actually go and turn the view for those on or off under the same Borders button. See how it says View Gridlines here? Well if I click on that now they’re off. Now it looks like there’s nothing there but the table is still there. Your cells still work the same way. It just really would look like nice, neat columns of information versus a table. I’ll go ahead and put these back on. I’m going to choose the outside border option and I’d also like to view those gridlines so that I can work with them a little bit easier. I’ll go down here and choose View Gridlines. Do you notice when I chose Outside Border there’s only a border that will print on the outside of my table? Now I want to apply a border around my header only. So I’ll select the first line, go back to Design and I’m going to choose again Outside Border but this time it’ll be just for the header. So borders are only around your selection, not necessarily each cell in your selection. Notice on this list that you can also apply inside horizontal or inside vertical borders and then you’ve got some diagonal ones you can apply that go sideways like this and then you can also put in a horizontal line. So those are your basic border options. That’s kind of nice but did you notice we can’t really pick a color here or a style, so that’s where it really gets interesting. I’m going to go to the bottom of the list where it says Borders and Shading and click. Now you’ll notice that I have Border options, Page Border options and Shading options. So I’m going to start with the border options. Sorry, we couldn't fit the entire video transcription here since YouTube only allows 5000 characters.

Join us on Facebook http://www.Facebook.com/howtechtv Our App http://bit.ly/how-tech Create the search box cell and optionally edit some characteristics. Under the Home tab, open the Conditional Formatting drop-down and click New Rule. Choose to use a formula to determine which cells to format. Use the SEARCH formula. The first argument will be a reference to the search box, then the columns of data. Use $A2 for example to start at A2 and down the column, and use & to concatenate another column on. “=SEARCH($J$3, $A2&B2&$C2)” for example. Click Format and choose a style. The search box should be working, but when it’s empty it triggers all the cells. To remedy this, go back to Conditional Formatting and click Manage Rules. Go under This Worksheet and click Edit Rule. Use an IF statement: “=IF(ISBLANK($J$3, 0, SEARCH(…)))”. This will return 0 if the cell is blank and return the SEARCH() formula if it isn’t. Filter Cells with Text in Bold Font Formatting in Excel

08:30
While there is no direct way to filter cells with text in Bold font formatting in Excel, you can easily do this. In this video, I will show you three ways to filter cells with text in bold font formatting: -- Using Find and Replace -- Using Get.Cell function -- Using Custom Function made with VBA With Find and Replace, you can find all the cells that have a specific format in it. So you can specify the bold font format and Find and Replace will find all the cells with it. Now you can replace this format with one that colors the cells with the specified color. Once the cells have the background color, you can easily filter these using the Filter by Color option. GET.CELL is a Macro4 function. While you can not use it in the worksheet, you can still use it in named ranges in Excel. Once you create this named range, you can use it to get TRUE for all cells that have cells with text in bold font format. Now you can filter these cells and you will also have filtered the one with bold font format. The VBA custom function works the same way. The formula returns TRUE when the cell has text in bold font format and FALSE when it doesn't. Now you can filter the cell with TRUE. Learn word 2016, Creating and running a macro

05:59
In this chapter, we're going to concentrate our focus on functionality that will help you to work more efficiently. We're going to begin with Macros. Now, if you've ever found yourself repeating the same steps, over and over, for multiple documents, or maybe adding the same content, well, you might consider recording a Macro. So you'll do it once and never have to do it again. Just play it back. That's what we're going to do with our press release document here, LH_press_release1001. And we're going to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the second page, and let's say typically we click down here at the bottom of the page and we start typing out closing information on how to book a room or an event at Landon Hotels. Well, instead of typing it out, because we do it over and over again, we should record what we're doing first and then simply play it back every time we need it. To do that, we need to see the Developer tab on the ribbon. My last tab is the View tab. You may see your Developer tab if it's been turned on, but if it's not turned on, like me, let's go to the File tab, select Options, and click Customize Ribbon. Over here on the right hand side, you can see the main tabs. My Developer tab is not checked off, so I'm going to click the check box to turn it on, and click OK, and now I have my Developer tab.
