Linear Algebra on Khan Academy: Have you ever wondered what the difference is between speed and velocity? Ever try to visualize in four dimensions or six or seven? Linear algebra describes things in two dimensions, but many of the concepts can be extended into three, four or more. Linear algebra implies two dimensional reasoning, however, the concepts covered in linear algebra provide the basis for multi-dimensional representations of mathematical reasoning. Matrices, vectors, vector spaces, transformations, eigenvectors/values all help us to visualize and understand multi dimensional concepts. This is an advanced course normally taken by science or engineering majors after taking at least two semesters of calculus (although calculus really isn't a prereq) so don't confuse this with regular high school algebra.

This covers the main geometric intuition behind the 2d and 3d cross products.
*Note, in all the computations here, I list the coordinates of the vectors as columns of a matrix, but many textbooks put them in the rows of a matrix instead. It makes no difference for the result, since the determinant is unchanged after a transpose, but given how I've framed most of this series I think it is more intuitive to go with a column-centric approach.

Using the right-hand rule to find the direction of the cross product of two vectors in the plane of the page

BraunVideos

In this 'Cross Product - introduction' video in Hindi we explained, very simply, the way how to find the direction and the magnitude of the cross product of two vectors in physics and compared this with dot product of two vectors. All steps are taught in very easy manner. Cross product of two vectors is a vector quantity but the dot product is a scalar quantity. To find out the direction of the cross product we use right hand rule. The magnitude of the cross product is the product of the magnitudes of the two vectors and the sine of the angle between those two vectors. We can also say, for the intuition of the cross product, that the cross product is equal to the area vector of the parallelogram whose two adjacent sides are represented by those two vectors whose cross product we are going to find out. It is a very important topic in Physics and for esp. students of class 11 and class 12 who aspire to appear in IIT JEE.

In this video I have explained how to find scalar and vector product of two vectors , how to find scalar and vector product of two vectors when both the vectors are given in component forms .
The dot (scalar) product is the trigonometric cosine rule applied to vectors. The result of a dot product is the cosine of the angle between the two vectors multiplied by the magnitudes of the vectors.
The cross product is a vector at right angles to both of the given vectors and whose length is equal to the sine of the angle between the vectors multiplied by the magnitudes of the vectors. The length of the cross-product vector is also equal to the area of the parallelogram formed by these vectors.

In this video in Hindi we discussed what is dot product and how to find the dot product of two vectors in physics. the dot product is also called the inner product or the scalar product This video is helpful for class 11 students and IIT JEE aspirants. The dot product of two vectors is the product of the magnitudes of the vectors and the cosine of the angle between them. The dot product of two vectors is the product of the magnitude of one vector and the projection of another vector along the first vector. The dot product or the inner product of two collinear vectors is the extremum. For the parallel vectors it is the maximum and for the anti parallel vectors it is minimum ( negative in nature ). If the dot product of two vectors is maximum the magnitude of the cross product is zero and when the magnitude of the cross product of two vectors is maximum the dot product is zero. Few examples of dot product are - work done - the dot product of force and displacement, electric flux - the dot product of electric field and the surface vector.
We will be discussing about cross product of two vectors in upcoming videos.

Scalar Product
The scalar product and the vector product are the two ways of multiplying vectors which see the most application in physics and astronomy. The scalar product of two vectors can be constructed by taking the component of one vector in the direction of the other and multiplying it times the magnitude of the other vector.

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything
