Top 10 Countries with the Longest Coastlines in Africa

05:10
#africatop10 A coastline is where land meets the sea and most of the countries in Africa have coastlines, with only one-fifth being landlocked. Having direct access to sea or ocean brings tons of advantages for a country-beaches, ports, shipping, and easy access to trade. 10 Biggest,Busiest and Largest Ports in Africa 2017

09:52
Africa's Busiest and Largest Ports ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe to our YouTube channel : https://goo.gl/oHL7nB ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ With over 90% of Africa’s imports and exports conducted by sea, there is an increasing need for innovation and development in the field of maritime. Africa covers about 6% of the earth’s total surface. With 38 of its 54 states either coastal or insular in nature, Africa has over a hundred port facilities, a few of which handle 6% of the worldwide water-borne cargo traffic and about 3% of the world’s container traffic. With over 90% of Africa’s imports and exports conducted by sea, research conducted by Jovago.com reveals the 7 harbours/ports that stand out strategically across the region. Durban, South Africa Port of Durban as popularly known is Africa’s most active general cargo port. It is situated a block away from Durban’s central business district and plays a key role in S.A’s economy. Being Africa’s largest container port, it handles most of the seagoing traffic in comparison to the other ports in South Africa. This port welcomes about 4,500 vessels yearly and about 8,3000 containers per month, it conducts trade worth over $45billion.According to the Port Management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa, it handled about 44.8 million tonnes of cargo of cargo in 2013-2014. Mombasa, Kenya Port Mombasa, often referred to as “the city of merchants” dates back to the times of Portuguese exploration, it has been and remains a busy trading post for the region which could be attributed to its strategic location between South Africa and the Gulf of Aden. It is a key gateway to East and Central Africa. It provides a direct link to about 80 ports worldwide and a railway line runs therefrom to Uganda and Tanzania. With 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (teu) and a container capacity of about 250,000 teu per year, Mombasa Port now handles about double this volume. The teu is an inexact unit of cargo capacity used to describe the capacity of container ships and container terminals. It is based on the volume of a 20-foot-long (6.1 m) intermodal container. Djibouti Djibouti’s ports are crucial to its geo-strategic importance both in military and economic terms. They serve as a passage for Ethiopian trade and a platform for the transshipment of goods. This involves the outflow of container and bulk cargo from larger vessels to be redistributed to East Africa and Arabian ports. It provides a secure regional hub for transshipment and relay of goods. China is also directly involved in the Port of Djibouti through the state-owned China Merchants Group. Their interest in Djibouti goes beyond the benefits of being involved in East African regional trade rather Djibouti’s position as the only reliable port along the main shipping lanes between Europe and the Gulf and also between Asia and the eastern coast of Africa is essential. Lagos, Nigeria Being Nigeria’s economic focal point, Lagos generates a significant portion of the country’s GDP. Abidjan, Ivory Coast The port of Abidjan is located on a lagoon and is connected to the sea by a 2.8 long km channel. The Abidjan Container Terminal is run jointly by the French Bolloré Africa Logistics and APM Terminals. Suez Canal, Egypt The Suez Canal is 101 miles (163 km) long connecting the Mediterranean Sea with the Gulf of Suez, a northern branch of the Red. The Suez Canal Axis Development Project aimed at its expansion and development is currently in planning. The 2014 canal revenue was approximately $5.45 billion which was 6.8 % higher than the previous year. The 2014 total tonnage was up to 962.7 million tonnes. Tangier, Morocco Separated from The Port of Tangier which remains the port for ferries, the Tangier-Med Port, accommodates commercial ships and vessels and can facilitate up to 3.5 million containers. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Our Social Media: ► Facebook: https://goo.gl/e6VnIE ► Twitter: https://goo.gl/7tT156 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ► For more videos and articles visit: ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Music Used in This Video: ►https://goo.gl/TIXONx ►https://goo.gl/tQ2HCf ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ► For copyright matters relating to our channel please contact us directly at :https://goo.gl/wRjjJU ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Thanking all of the visitors for the likes, comments and shares for this video . Sierra Leone Pastor Finds 706 Carat Diamond Which Could Be 10th Largest Ever

03:49
A Christian pastor working in a Sierra Leone mine has found a 706-carat diamond, which could be the tenth largest ever found. The precious stone was found by Emmanuel Momoh, who was working in the Kono region, in the east of the country. It will be sold in Sierra Leone in a 'transparent' bidding process to benefit the country, according to a government statement. It read: 'A 706-carat diamond was presented to President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma yesterday evening. 'Receiving the diamond President Koroma thanked the chief and his people for not smuggling the diamond out of the country.' Diamond expert Paul Zimnisky said it could be 'between the 10th and 15th largest gem-diamonds ever recovered' and such a find is very rare in a small mine. He said: 'Most recent exceptional diamond discoveries have been made by large commercial miners that mine very large volumes of kimberlite ore and process it with advanced equipment. 'Artisanal mining tends to produce smaller, lower quality diamonds because the diamonds suffer breakage and erosion.' Zimnisky said the stone would likely be sold outside Sierra Leone, despite the government's assertion, for better access to buyers. Without a professional assessment of the diamond's potential flaws and colouring it is impossible to value the stone. However, a polished stone cut from the Jonker, which is the 10th largest gem-diamond ever recovered until now at 726 carats, will go on sale in Hong Kong in May. A single 25-carat portion is likely to sell for $2.2 million to $3.6 million (£1.78 million to £2.75 million), or $88,000 to $144,000 for a single carat, Zimnisky said. A 1,111-carat diamond was discovered at a mine in Botswana in 2015, the biggest find for more than a century. That gem is second in size only to the Cullinan diamond which was unearthed in South Africa in 1905, at 3,106 carats uncut, according to the Cape Town Diamond Museum. The Cullinan was cut into several gems, including two set into the sceptre and crown of the British Crown Jewels. Historically, Sierra Leone has had a controversial role in the diamond industry. The sale of 'blood diamonds' helped finance civil wars across Africa in the 1990s and often funded military dictatorships on a continent that the London Diamond Bourse estimates provides 65 percent of the world's diamonds. Rebels allowed traders to exploit diamond mines and ship the gems abroad via Liberia. In one of the most notorious cases, former Liberian warlord Charles Taylor was found guilty of supporting the rebels in exchange for diamonds mined by slave labour. The district where the 706-carat diamond was discovered is where US-Belgian businessman Michel Desaedeleer, accused of enslavement and diamond trafficking during Sierra Leone's civil war, is alleged to have committed his crimes. 17 BIGGEST Trees in the World

07:58
17 BIGGEST Trees in the World This Atlas Cedar in the Foret de Cedar in Northern Morocco is one of the tallest Trees in Africa. The tree has an estimated girth of 3.5 feet and is estimated to be more than 131 feet tall! This tree was planted around 1200-1400 A.D. which makes it at around 7 centuries old. The Queets River Spruce in Washington state was the largest Spruce Tree in the world. The Queets Spruce has a circumference of 60 feet and is 191 feet tall. It attracted nature enthusiasts and tourists from around the country, but unfortunately fell when a harsh winter storm hit the area in 2007. This tree is the largest known western redcedar in the entire world. It has a volume of over 18,000 cubic feet and a height of 180 feet when it was last measured. This tree makes its home about 21 miles from the pacific ocean near Quinalt Lake and took the title for tallest tree in the area after the Queets Lake Spruce was felled in a storm. These odd trees that decorate the plains of Africa are known for their many strange characteristics. The tops of their branches make them look like their roots sprout into the air instead of into the ground, they’re known to be fire resistant and it can last through even the most severe droughts. The Baobabs aren’t just incredibly fascinating alien-like plantlife, they’re also incredibly large, regularly reaching towering 100 foot heights and massive 30 foot diameters. Near a tiny village hidden in the mountains of central Colombia, the Cocora Valley acts as the residence for the world’s tallest palm trees which also have been recognized as Colombia’s national tree. The Palms in this valley grow more than 200 feet tall, which is strange even to many experts as there is no evolutionary benefit for a tree in an open field to grow so high. The Tane Mahuta is a giant kauri tree (Agathis australis) in the Waipoua Forest of New Zealand. Tane Mahuta is 58 feet high but has a total volume of 18,250 cubic feet, making it the 4th largest trees when measured by volume in the world. Experts estimate this tree to be between 1,250 and 2,500 years old, so not only is it one of the largest trees, it is also one of the oldest. Tane Mahuta translates to “Lord of the Forest” when translated from Maori, which is more than an appropriate name considering the Tane Mahuta’s size and age.

World's Largest Sea Turtle! Giant Leatherback Sea Turtle!

02:06
World's Largest Sea Turtle! Giant Leatherback Sea Turtle! https://youtu.be/6u5NqrKG3dA I know this is not our usual content, but could you imagine if we could get this turtle on our side? GO TEAM USA! Minigun Turtle! Make sure to subscribe to the channel! Leatherback turtles have the most hydrodynamic body design of any sea turtle, with a large, teardrop-shaped body. A large pair of front flippers powers the turtles through the water. Like other sea turtles, the leatherback has flattened fore limbs adapted for swimming in the open ocean. Claws are absent from both pairs of flippers. The leatherback's flippers are the largest in proportion to its body among extant sea turtles. Leatherback's front flippers can grow up to 2.7 m (8.9 ft) in large specimens, the largest flippers (even in comparison to its body) of any sea turtle. The leatherback has several characteristics that distinguish it from other sea turtles. Its most notable feature is the lack of a bony carapace. Instead of scutes, it has thick, leathery skin with embedded minuscule osteoderms. Seven distinct ridges rise from the carapace, crossing from the cranial to caudal margin of the turtle's back. Leatherbacks are unique among reptiles in that their scales lack β-keratin. The entire turtle's dorsal surface is colored dark grey to black, with a scattering of white blotches and spots. Demonstrating countershading, the turtle's underside is lightly colored. Instead of teeth, the leatherback turtle has points on the tomium of its upper lip, with backwards spines in its throat to help it swallow food and to stop its prey from escaping once caught. Oesophagus of a leatherback sea turtle showing spines to retain prey D. coriacea adults average 1–1.75 m (3.3–5.7 ft) in curved carapace length (CCL), 1.83–2.2 m (6.0–7.2 ft) in total length, and 250 to 700 kg (550 to 1,540 lb) in weight. In the Caribbean, the mean size of adults was reported at 384 kg (847 lb) in weight and 1.55 m (5.1 ft) in CCL. Similarly, those nesting in French Guiana, weighed an average of 339.3 kg (748 lb) and measured 1.54 m (5.1 ft) in CCL. The largest verified specimen ever found was discovered in the Pakistani beach of Sanspit and measured 213 cm (6.99 ft) in CCL and 650 kg (1,433 lb) in weight, a previous contender, the "Harlech turtle", was purportedly 256.5 cm (8.42 ft) in CCL and 916 kg (2,019 lb) in weight however recent inspection of its remains housed at the National Museum Cardiff have found that its true CCL is around 1.5 m (4.9 ft), casting doubt on the accuracy of the claimed weight, as well. On the other hand, a scientific paper claimed that the species can weigh up to 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) without providing more verifiable detail. The leatherback turtle is scarcely larger than any other sea turtle upon hatching, as they average 61.3 mm (2.41 in) in carapace length and weigh around 46 g (1.6 oz) when freshly hatched. D. coriacea exhibits several anatomical characteristics believed to be associated with a life in cold waters, including an extensive covering of brown adipose tissue, temperature-independent swimming muscles, countercurrent heat exchangers between the large front flippers and the core body, and an extensive network of countercurrent heat exchangers surrounding the trachea. The Maputo-Catembe Bridge: 'the longest suspension bridge in Africa'

02:33
When Mozambique completes the Maputo-Catembe bridge in December this year, transport times to South Africa, from where Mozambique imports many of its basics will be cut greatly. The US$700m is being constructed by state-owned China Road and Bridge Corporation. At the moment, the only way across Maputo Bay, a 90km inlet of the Indian Ocean, is by ferry. The last section of deck of the bridge between Maputo and Catembe was laid in late October. The Maputo-Catembe bridge will be the largest in the country, the largest suspension bridge in Africa, and among the 60 largest suspended spans in the world. 4:3 Strike by workers in East Africa's largest sea port disrupts trade in the region

(2 Nov 2012) 1. Various of striking Kenyan port workers chanting 2. Driving shot of line of parked container trucks 3. Wide of parked trucks 4. Truck drivers sitting near vehicle 5. SOUNDBITE: (English) Richard Mbuuga, Ugandan truck driver: "There are drivers from Rwanda, from Burundi, Zaire (Democratic Republic of Congo), Uganda, as well Tanzania, all are here, and they are just waiting, they can't do anything by themselves, what they are waiting is for the strike to be called off and then they load their goods and go back to their destined countries." 6. Truck drivers outside port 7. Wide of ship waiting to be unloaded 8. Various of containers at the port 9. Wide of port 10. SOUNDBITE: (English) Simon Sang, General Secretary of the Dock Workers' Union: "The government, who actually facilitated the recommendation, should come in and deal with management, because it is not an issue of workers, it is an issue of management. That is why we are here today. The whole port has been paralysed, the whole port will not actually, no work will go on, until the first one thousand letters are seen here." 11. Various of ships waiting to offload cargo 12. Wide of crowd of people waiting at port with boat in water in foreground 13. Various of stranded ferry passengers at ferry stop STORYLINE: Operations at East Africa's largest sea port remained paralysed on Friday, as dock workers continued an indefinite strike over their contracts. The strike at Kenya's port of Mombasa has disrupted trade across the region and is costing (m) millions of US dollars a day. The 3,500 workers went on strike to demand permanent jobs. Many have worked at the port for between 15 and 20 years. Tonnes (tons) of cargo piled up at the port as lorry drivers from Rwanda, Burundi, Congo and other landlocked African countries waited in vain for the strikers to return to work. General Secretary of the Dock Workers' Union, Simon Sang, said the strike would not be called off until workers had received letters guaranteeing them permanent jobs. He called on the government to step in on behalf of the strikers to "deal with management." The strike was called because the Kenya Ports Authority management failed to provide workers with permanent employment as promised earlier in the year, workers said. The port employs about six-thousand people in total. Ferry passengers were stranded too, after ferry workers also went on strike over their wages. Discover Tanzania's City Dar es Salaam, LARGEST City in East Africa

10:55
Over the last century, Dar es Salaam has grown from a sleepy Zaramo fishing village into a thriving tropical metropolis of over four million people. Straddling some of the most important sea routes in the world, it is East Africa’s second-busiest port and Tanzania’s commercial hub. Despite this, and its notorious traffic jams, the city has managed to maintain a low-key, down-to-earth feel. SUBSCRIBE here 👉 https://goo.gl/jYw6so DONATE 👉 (https://www.paypal.me/africanInsider) Dar es Salaam’s architecture is a mixture of African, Arab, Indian and German, although much of this is now dwarfed by towering high-rises. Many travellers bypass ‘Dar’ completely; those that linger will encounter the city’s eclectic cultural mix and languid vibe. The Biggest Rocket ever Designed? - The Sea Dragon

07:36
In the history of space, one rocket stands out as an icon of not only the space race but of the mighty power it symbolised. Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/curiousdroid Paypal.me : https://www.paypal.me/curiousdroid You can now translate this and other curious droid videos, see my video about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLPVgIytKyg At 1:00 there is a spelling mistake showing the payload as 1,1000,000lb this, of course, should be 1,100,000 lbs. That one rocket, which is still the Tallest, heaviest and most powerful ever built, was the Saturn V, which was designed to take men to the moon and later launched the first American Space station, Skylab. But if things had been a little different back in the 60’s we might have had a different rocket to hang on the bedroom walls of the space fans of the 70’s and 80’s. In the early 1960’s, a rocket was designed which made the Saturn V look small comparison. This was the Sea Dragon, a super heavy lift rocket that would have been 10 times more powerful with 80 Million lb’s of thrust compared to the Saturn’s 7.8 million and that was from just one massive engine. It was designed to lift a payload of 1,100,000 lbs into orbit, compared to the 310,000 lbs of the Saturn V. This meant it could have lifted an entire space station into Low Earth Orbit in one mission. The rocket bell of this single engine would be so large at 75 feet in diameter, that you could fit the entire first stage of a Saturn V with all 5 of its F1 engines inside with room to spare. So what happened to the Sea Dragon and why didn’t it get built ?. At the time of the design in 1962, it was thought that by the 1970’s, 80’s and beyond, thousands of people would be working in space and on the moon, even on Mars and as such, rockets with huge lifting capabilities would have been in great demand as they would dramatically lower the cost of getting materials into space. The sea dragon was designed by Robert Truax, a US Navy Captain and Rocket engineer. He was one of the pioneers of American rocketry and worked on the Thor and Polaris missiles amongst others. His team debriefed the German Rocket engineers at the end of World War 2 including Werner Von Braun who went on to design the Saturn V. Traux believed it was complexity that drove up the cost of rockets and not their size. His designs for the Sea Dragon were very simple but very big. The sea dragon would have been 75 ft in diameter and 500ft tall, half the Hight of Chrysler building..... Schematics and drawings of the Sea Dragon used with permission of aerospaceprojectsreview.com

The BIGGEST SNAKE Ever ! TITANOBOA

08:03
We know the anacondas, boas, pythons, but have you heard about the Titanoboa? It is the queen of snakes and is also the largest ever known. Correction: The titanoboa weighed 1.13 tons. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION: Its scientific name is Titanoboa Cerrejonensis, because it was discovered in the Cerrejón coal mines, located in the State of La Guajira, in Colombia. In this place, the geologist Henry Garcia found a strange fossil in 1994. He labeled it a "petrified branch" and stored it in a counter in the mine's facilities. The discovery was not free of challenges. To know what the titanoboa was feeding on and what its true size was, the head was needed. Until then, mining activity had helped the discovery of new species. While more layers of land miners extracted, more species were found and they seemed to be increasingly older. The problem was that this time the miners had announced that they were going to start digging in lower strata and that all the land from the time of the titanoboa would be removed, losing any trace of it. The paleontologists had to hurry. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- About Us: Trend Max is an education and entertainment channel dedicated to creating interesting Tops and Lists. Meet the biggest fish in the sea | #3 Mozambique

04:54
Mozambique is one of the less discovered countries on our travel list. This place is less touristy, more difficult to travel and even the restaurants are set in small shanties. But after 120km of a bumpy and sandy road we explored the beautiful nature of Tofo Beach and the friendliest people we met so far. White sandy beaches, fine diving and delicious food was served in Tofo Beach. Especially the Peri Peri Chicken in Mojo’s and the fresh Tuna on a hot rock in Branko’s were outstanding. See yourself in the video how wonderful the places in Mozambique are. We enjoyed quiet and lovely days at the beach and stayed in a wonderful beach bungalow at Casa na Praia. Breakfast with sand under your feet and a view over the ocean – how delicate. And during the day the ocean safaris are the best to meet the biggest fish in the sea. Impressive how the Whale Sharks – a fish 12m in its size – is so calm and peaceful and just feeds on plankton and small fishes. Diving is one of our passions and we love to explore the underwater world – so there will follow some impressions from this unique and fascinating environment, we have to protect for the future. One of the great things about diving is that you meet people with the same passion and make amazing experiences together and new friendships. 11 BIGGEST Fish Ever Caught

08:04
From greenland sharks, to the Mekong Giant Catfish that was bigger than a grizzly bear, these are 11 BIGGEST Fish Ever Caught ! A 15 foot greenland shark was reeled in by an angler in a kayak in 2014. Joel Abrahamsson said he trained to capture the massive creature by reeling in 60-pound concrete blocks from a local lake. Then he strapped himself into a harness attached to his fishing rod in the kayak. He struggled with the greenland shark for around 90 minutes before finally capturing the 200-year old animal … which was estimated to weigh more than 1,200 pounds! It’s considered an unofficial record due to kayak fishing records being loosely kept … and the use of estimated weights. The ancient shark was later returned to the water. A fisherman in Cambodia got a big surprise when he inspected his gill net … A Siamese giant carp that weighed around 100 kilograms (220 lbs) was trapped there! Ironically, the fisherman said he had set his nets in a more shallow area of Cambodia’s Tonle Sap Lake (tone-lee sap lake), where smaller fish are usually found. Strong currents were thought to have swept the big fish into the shallow area. After noticing a huge tear in the netting, the fishermen alerted authorities to inspect the massive fish. The carp was later released into a deeper area of the lake. Did you know the Siamese giant carp is considered to be a rare and critically endangered species? Did you know that fishermen in northern Thailand caught a fish that was the size of a grizzly bear? It happened in 2005, and the creature measured almost 9 feet long (2.7 meters) and tipped the scales at 646 pounds (293 kilograms)! The species is understandably known as the Mekong (meh-kong) giant catfish … and you can get an idea of just how massive this creature is in these photos by Suthep Kritsanavarin (Soo-threp Krit-zana-var-en). It seems to dwarf the two men who have spread their arms across the creature’s dorsal area … likely to give the viewer a better sense of scale. The fishermen struggled with the beast for nearly an hour before hauling it in. Eggs were harvested from the fish by Thai Fisheries officials as part of a breeding program … and they later planned to release it. But the huge fish was instead sold to local villages as food after it died in captivity. Did you know this animal is recognized as one of the largest freshwater fish ever caught? A pensioner created some controversy when he landed the largest fish ever caught in the British Isles using rod and line. Joe Waldis managed to reel in a bluntnose sixgill shark that measured 12 feet, 9 inches long … and weighed 1,056 pounds! The animal was too huge to haul it aboard Mr Waldis’s boat off the coast of South-West Ireland. It was eventually towed to an estuary (ess-choo-wary), where it was taken by a forklift and weighed at a local quarry. The controversy arose when the shark was killed and then hauled ashore … that action was deemed necessary in order to verify the record. Many conservationists in the fishing community condemned the killing … saying the creature should have been released back to the sea alive. What do you think? An angler named Guy Kitakoa (kitta-koe-a) was fishing off Kona, Hawaii in 2015 … when he caught a blue marlin that weighed an incredible 1,368 pounds (or over 620 kilograms)! You can see the huge fish in Mr Kitakoa’s picture. Look at how it dwarfs the fisherman … you can get a good idea of the sheer mass of the shiny-skinned critter, as its right fin appears to be sticking straight up. It took some 90 minutes of struggling with the marlin to finally bring it in. It later took seven men to transfer the fish from the 20-foot skiff to a larger yacht. In pictures from Waiopai (why-o-pie) Sportfishing Charters, you can see how five of the men used yellow measuring tape to assess the marlin’s dimensions of 12-feet long with a girth of 84 inches. Additional photos from the same source depict the animal with its bill closed with duct tape as some of the men examine its tail fin. And it later took a flatbed pickup truck to transport the creature away from the docks … just look at how the massive marlin fills up the flatbed. Experts said it was the largest blue marlin caught off Kona in more than two Subscribe to Epic Wildlife http://goo.gl/6rzs5u Let's Connect -- http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ -- http://www.facebook.com/epicadamwildlife -- http://www.twitter.com/epicwildlife -- http://gplus.to/epicwildlife

7 BIGGEST Underwater Mysteries We Still Don't Understand

11:08
7 BIGGEST Underwater Mysteries From an underwater stonehenge to a picture of a mastadon on a rock to magnetic anomolies in a strange lake, these are the 7 biggest underwater mysteries will still don't understand. Narration provided by JaM Advertising New Mexico www.tasteofjam.com Ivan Terence Sanderson was a Scottish biologist who first coined the term "Vile Vortex" to describe areas of unusual phenomena found around the world. He claimed there were twelve such areas, and barring the few on land in Asia, Africa and Antarctica; most of these areas can be found out at sea, with the most famous being - the Bermuda Triangle. Right now the only people playing "hide the sub" should be Jared from Subway's cellmates, but in 1968 someone or something caused not one, not two, but four submarines to randomly disappear around the world. Stonehenge is one of the most famous historical monuments in the world, but it is far from the only random arrangement of old-timey stones humanity has uncovered. We've seen similar sites across Europe, Asia, Africa and America, but none of these were ever discovered underwater. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration constantly monitor the ocean for unique sounds emanating from the ocean. They pick up all sorts of strange and weird noises every day, yet whilst most can be explained, the origin of some has never been determined. With a name like that you know this thing isn't gonna be small. Leptocephalus Giganteus is an eel species of which only two have ever been observed, and on both occasions they were undeveloped larvae. The first sighting was in 1930 off the coast of South Africa, when Danish scientist Anton Brunn captured a 6ft specimen. He recognised it as the larvae of a Leptocephalus, who are typically around one thirtieth of the adult's size, which means if fully matured it could have grown to over 180ft. There are countless examples of marine biologists estimating the size of an ocean dwelling creature only to encounter one far larger than anyone thought possible. One such event occurred in Japan's Suruga Bay, where Japanese scientists detected a huge 30ft shark, leading some to wonder whether the prehistoric Megalodon, which measured up to 59 feet, could still be lurking somewhere at the bottom of the ocean today. Southern Siberia's Lake Baikal is the largest freshwater lake in the world, and not only is it incredibly ancient, clocking in at 25-30 million years old, but the lake and surrounding area also contains a rich biodiversity of over 1000 plant species and 2500 animal species, of which 80% exist nowhere else in the world.
