Barcelona sea temperatures and beaches -- for swimmers!
Barcelona sea temperatures. Olympic-pool temperatures from the end of May to the end of September. August has the hottest water. That attracts JELLYFISH. The Spanish call them “medusas” like the Greek monster. Enjoy your workout. Olympic swimming pools are kept at 77 to 82F /25 to 28C and that’s about what you find at the municipal beaches at Barcelona. The sea temperature is ideal for distance swimming. March has the coldest water of the year. Here is a link if you want specifics: Barcelona sea temperatures http://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/Barceloneta/seatemp May and September are the rainiest months in Barcelona and this affects the water surface. There is a small amount of surfing in the fall due to off shore storms. The biggest problem with the municipal beaches is the litter. The water quality of is fine. People tend to leave litter on the beach and it gets in the water. There are occasionally man-made objects on the sea floor. Overall, the water itself seems fine. When I say the municipal beaches, I mean from the W Hotel (the big curved hotel) up the coast to the Forum. This is about 5km of beaches and distance swimming is possible along all of them. There is only one set of public lockers to leave your belongings and they often are not available. Plan accordingly. I sometimes ride down with only a t-shirt & flip flops. Tap a bank note under the bottom of your bike seat. Keep it simple. There is a local, open-water swimming population. You can search “open water swims” on the internet and find them. The swimming community does events year round though most of them are out of the city of Barcelona. One other interesting point. On Christmas day at noon, there is a 200m sprint through the port. This is a great swim. The event is broadcast on TV. You can be a swimming star. James Waylon Living In Barcelona www.jameswaylon.com Barcelona's captured neighborhoods. (σ゚∀゚)σ Barcelona video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PjHo6f_mno The weather in Barcelona it's crazy lately. With giant waves and dangerous sea thanks to the storms which have been hitting the coast of Spain recently. This freezing temperature is not usual for me in my lifestyle, that's why I'm dressed like someone traveling from the north :) I don't like to be so cold but living in Spain has also those cold days especially in the Winter. Also in this vlog, we go to eat at a vegan restaurant in Barcelona. What's beneath Barcelona's Sea?
Somebody told me that it's just a dumpster so I wanted to show that even in a city crowded like this you can find a rich ecosystem in less than 25ft depth. The video is recorded with a Panasonic DMC-FT1 with improvised case; the trembling is due low temperatures (below 12.5Cº) and lack of oxygen (on some caves I was free diving). Although it was smooth sea, some of the footage is from an outer breakwater so sometimes it did get pretty rough.

Man o War Killer Jellyfish at Mediterranean Spain Beaches Summer 2018 Travel Warning
Increase alert on Spain coasts by dangerous Man o War "Jellyfish" Portuguese Caravel. Summer, June 2018 If you see it, do not touch it. Its name is Carabela Portuguesa, (Portuguese Man o' War, or, Portuguese caravel). It has been seen in Alicante, Almería and Murcia since May, and lately during the Saint John’s festivities on the weekend of June 23 and 24. Its bite is poisonous and very painful, so avoid touching them even if they lie apparently dead on the sand, because the poison is active until 48-72 hours after having died. The Portuguese caravel is a hydrozoan siphonophore that consists of a set of floating polyps; it is not a jellyfish, although it looks like it, and it is very poisonous with tentacles of up to 50 meters. The 'Physalia physalis' belongs, like the 'Medusozoa', to the edge or biological group 'Cnidaria'. It consists of a gelatinous candle between 15 and 30 cm that allows it to travel the oceans driven by winds, tides and marine currents, while from the central body hang numerous tentacles that serve to catch their prey and that can extend up to 50 meters long. The danger of the caravel lies in the numerous filaments saturated with powerful irritating cells that hang from the bladder, capable of secreting a poison that not only produces intense pain, but also generates neuro-toxic, cyto-toxic and cardio-toxic consequences. -What does this mean? It means that the toxin mainly paralyzes the muscles, making you unable to move, breathe and even can cause you a heart attack, so you can drown if you are away from the shore. With this poison, it paralyzes and captures its prey, but it also affects human beings, which can even cause death. However, it is not an invulnerable animal: in nature, all species have their predators and the staunch enemy of this creature are sea turtles, which feed on it because they are immune to its toxin. Why have they appeared in the Mediterranean? Normally, these animals are found in warm areas of the Atlantic Ocean, but the unusual and strong storms of April and May, with harmful winds from the West allowed them to pass through the Strait of Gibraltar. How should we act if one of those jellyfish touches us? When it bites you, rests of the tentacles remain attached to the skin. Do not remove them with force, because you can spread the poison. It is best to remove them carefully with tweezers. Wash the wound with seawater; never use mineral water because it intensifies the stinging effects of the bite. Don't rub the wound, just remove with great care all the blue material that can be left on the skin and bathing clothes. Do not use vinegar, ammonia, or any other substance to wash the wounds, only seawater. Once the wound is clean, try to heat seawater and apply this hot water. The toxin is sensitive to high temperatures and is deactivated in contact with heat. Then, go to the doctor as soon as possible, because some side effects can be dizziness, vomiting and acute pains of head and muscles. If you see a yellow or red flag at the beach and the sea is in calm, do not go swimming, there may be jellyfish. The good new is that these animals are extremely sensitive to heat, and as the summer temperature rises, they will gradually disappear. Pre-summer mode engaged for Barcelona’s beaches as temperatures rise, but few dare to swim
http://www.catalannewsagency.com On Wednesday morning, Barcelona’s beaches were well and truly in pre-summer mode, with hundreds of people sunbathing or playing in the sand, although few dared to swim as the water is still a bit cold. The temperature was almost 30 degrees (ºC), but some thin cloud cover and a sea breeze allowed people to enjoy and relax without suffering from the heat too much. Younger and older people, as well as families on holidays were the ones profiting the most from the situation. Surprised by the heat wave, many came to the beach without swimwear but managed to take refuge under parasols or in the shade of nearby bar terraces. In recent days, the rising temperatures have reached almost summer levels, allowing people with free time to enjoy the beach more than usual, although the season officially started in late March. Overall, the Catalan capital has 9 beaches that stretch for a total of some 5 km.

Barcelona -- cool places for teens. Tips teens won’t hate.
Barcelona & cool places for teens. Tips the teens won’t hate. Sports, skate parks & surfing. Okay, the surfing may not happen. Try drinking with them. I love to change the texture of holidays. What I mean is to do something like a sports day. Breaking out of the tourist grind and doing something physical changes everything. You relax. You interact with each other better. You sleep well. All of that is good for jetlag. These are great ideas for teens. By the way, I have other tips for kids and children in Barcelona: Barcelona with kids & children. 7 years of research. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgCly_AQ3fs&t=1s Barcelona travel tips for kids. The Sants park! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guQ1mudE4rM The best sports complex I know of is Can Caralleu. Imagine a full sized soccer/football field up above the city in the foothills. There are views of the city all the way to the sea. It’s surrounded by trees in a lost corner of the Barcelona. There are two pools that are open around the year. There are tennis & paddle courts. There is a place to eat. It’s a great place to spend the day. You will probably want to take a taxi to get there but, brother, it is worth it. Can Caralleu https://www.claror.cat/cancaralleu There are two big skate areas for teens. They are authentic, earthy and great for sunny afternoons. I get something to eat and bring it there to eat (“to go food” is not common except in the tourist areas). The biggest area is the plaza of the Modern Art Museum in the Raval. It’s a local area and there is public drinking. It is a safe and comfortable place, especially during the day. Enjoy. The other skate park is at the bottom of the Ramble De Poble Nou near the beach. Go past the two towers on the beach and past the Burger King. It’s near a hill with bamboo/grass. The park is fairly new and in good shape. There is a sailing club below that has a place to eat on the sea side of the building. Speaking of the Rambla De Poble Nou, check this out: Barcelona's secret Rambla. A hidden gem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvvwP19uIOA&t=13s Surfing happens in Barcelona in the afternoons in the fall. If you are dedicated. This happens because storms out at sea. During these times, the tide comes in during the afternoon and you get something like a real wave. You can rent suits and surf boards in Barceloneta. I’ve spent many afternoons watching the surfers in the sunset. There are usually buskers playing near the sea in the winter. Lastly, the drinking age in Barcelona is 18. A glass of wine for a minors accompanied by parents is not a problem. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone get carded in Barcelona. A first glass of Spanish wine seems like a good reward and a good memory for teens in Barcelona. Also, do the Camp Nou museum and tour. Or see a game. The stadium is set to be remodeled in the next five years or so (I hear). See it before the changes. Lastly, try Port Adventure amusement park down the coast. It’s expensive with expensive food. But your kids won’t notice that. 4 things to do before you leave home for Barcelona
4 things to do before leaving home for Barcelona. Photocopy your passport, make a jetlag plan, check on A/C & reduce your “To-do” list. Done! 1. The first thing is passport protection in one of the pickpocket capitols of the world. You want to have a photocopy somewhere safe in your luggage. I would strongly advise you not to walk around Barcelona with your passport. But if something happens to your passport, it is helpful at the U.S. Consulate to get a new passport if you have a photocopy. Be passport safe. 2. Jetlag is not joke. Make a plan for it. I suggest you stay awake the first day till the sun goes down. No naps! If you get to Barcelona on one of those long overnight flights, this isn’t easy. If you stay awake till the sun goes down, you have a good chance of re-orienting your time clock. You’ll likely wake up around the time that the sun comes up. See my video: Barcelona jetlag tips & a first day plan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMmcSGFsSdc&t=23s 3. FIND OUT IF YOUR AIR B&B HAS A/C! During summer, you want to know about this before you arrive. Many local places don’t have A/C here in Barcelona. The summer is the most intense weather in Barcelona. Personally, I think it is NOT a good time to visit. The Fall, Spring & Winter are all more pleasant. At any rate, ask about A/C. Hotels usually have A/C. See my video: Barcelona airbnbs -- THE question you have to ask https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqQTkeaEJgA 4. Take a look at your “to-see” list in Barcelona. Cut it in half, cut off a third, reduce it. EVERYONE TRIES TO DO TO MUCH. I get it. You are excited to be here. You want to stay up late and get up early. You want to do it all. You can’t. Seriously. This is a race. This isn’t work. You want to FEEL the place. See what you can, maybe a maximum of 2 big sights a day. Relax and be here. It’s a really common problem that everyone makes, including Barcelona people when they go to the U.S. Build in down time. I hope this helps! Let me know. Tenerife Weather in December - A Quick Review
A quick overview of average Tenerife weather in December. Check our ultimate weather guide at https://tenerifeforum.site/tenerife-weather/ Temperatures continue to drop as we enter into the Canarian Winter season. December is one of the coolest months of the year and has the highest probability of rainfall. The sea temperature also falls and the general weather conditions change from the weather pattern seen in previous months. We still have 7 hours of sunshine a day and it’s normal to experience a mixture of cloud and sunny spells throughout the day. The contrast between the warm climate of the coastal areas and the colder climate in the higher levels and the North of the Island becomes evident once again, although there is no reason why you can't spend a few hours on the beach on Christmas Day. Barcelona food guide dos, donts, dammit I need hamburger
Barcelona food guide: do’s, don’ts & dammit I need a hamburger! A few simple bullet-points to help you eat better in Barcelona. Local food is your friend. DO: Eat authentic dishes in place of what tourists THINK are authentic dishes. Authentic: Do eat BBQ Calçots in February. These are long onions that get bundled and BBQ-ed. You dip them in an almond sauce and drop them in your upturned mouth. This is so typical of Barcelona & Catalonia. Do eat black rice in place of paella. Black rice sounds like a pirate dish but it’s really good. It’s rice with black squid ink. Crazy & delicious. Arroz negro. Do get a primitive pizza: Pan Con Tomate. They take a piece of bread and grind a tomato into it. Throw in salt & olive oil and you have a truly local Barcelona side dish. Order it. Do try Crema Catalan. It’s a desert. It’s a type of sweet pudding. Paella, tapas and sangria are less common than these dishes. DON’T Don’t eat at any restaurant that has a lot of translated menus. This is a dead give away that locals don’t eat there. Local places have menus in Spanish and Catalan (maybe English). Bring a dictionary and everything will taste better Don’t eat near any big tourist attractions. The surrounding areas are tourist dead-ends. This means don’t eat near the Sagrada Familia, DON’T EAT ON THE RAMBLA, don’t eat on the main strip on Barceloneta. Wander away and look for a nice place. Get lost and you’ll find locals in a lost corner. Finally, sometimes you need a break. It’s okay to grab a hamburger. Don’t go to fast food places. Look for Irish bars. They are usually run by English-speaking people. They are touristic but they have good hamburgers, dammit! Climate simulation at ground-breaking resolution with EC-Earth
The global ultra-high resolution EC-Earth (http://www.ec-earth.org/) climate model ORCA12-T1279 in action over the North Atlantic. Sea-surface temperature and sea-ice concentration from the ocean component (NEMO, left panel) and 2-meter air temperature from the atmosphere component (IFS, right panel). Both fields are shown directly on the grid of their respective component. Full year at daily resolution. Horizontal resolution is about 16 km for both the ocean and atmosphere component. Simulation carried out on the MareNostrum supercomputer, at the Barcelona Supercomputer Center (BSC, https://www.bsc.es/) in the context of PRIMAVERA work package #6 (https://www.primavera-h2020.eu/).

Travelvideo to Barcelona
We decided to take a trip with the family to Barcelona at the end of december 2016. It is an amazing city, with great buildings mostly desinged by Gaudi. The temperature was perfect for this time of the year and this kind of trip. We decided that we will come back to Barcelona for sure by the time the Sagrada Familia is finished. This probably will be by the end of 2026.

Weather in Torrevieja in April. Beach Náufragos
Would you like to come to Torrevieja in April? The weather is really good! April is mid-spring on the Costa Blanca, with long, pleasantly warm days and only light showers. It’s still not quite beach weather, but you might just be able to do a little sunbathing on Torrevieja’s fabulous beaches by the end of the month! Sea temperatures are still relatively cool in Torrevieja, around 16C, though the average temperature is now a very temperate 15C, with highs of around 20C. It’s not uncommon for temperatures to reach up to 28C at this time, so while you might think twice before taking a dip in the water, it’s not out of the question to catch a few rays on the beach by the end of the month. It’s a similar story across the country, with average temperatures of 13C and highs of 18C in Barcelona; it’s likely to be slightly cooler inland and to the north year round. Where to see NFL games in Barcelona
Where to see NFL Games in Barcelona? Probably on your phone. What happens is NFL regular season games don’t get huge priority. You might be able to find the odd game in an Irish bar. But European football/soccer and boxing events draw more people. The local religion is soccer. You can get the NFL game pass for 19€ a week. Bring your phone and watch it in a bar. I forgot to mention this in the video but it’s a great tip. The biggest sports bar I know of is the George Payne. https://www.thegeorgepayne.com/ It is a big, rambling, two story place that probably has enough screens to show a regular season game that you want to see. It gets very crowded for big events like World Cup games or Champions. The George Payne is located in the The Plaça d'Urquinaona near Plaza Catalonia in the center. NFL playoff games usually draw more people and you can likely watch one. I’ve watched a few important ones and there are usually other fans looking to do the same. There are always Super Bowl events here probably because there is always a population of American students studying abroad for the year. Keep in mind that the Super Bowl always starts late at night in Spain. You’ll be up till late in the morning. On a side note, there once was a local American football team called the Barcelona Dragons. I have met local people who are big American football fans and one of the paid TV stations broadcasts live NFL games. However, I think the NBA is bigger than the NFL here. Barcelona and Spain are big on basketball, especially with the Gasol brothers being in the NBA. I saw the 2009 Saints win the Super bowl here. The next Saints super bowl win will happen after the Sagrada Familia is finished. James Waylon LIVING In Barcelona www.jameswaylon.com Barcelona -- cool places for teens.
