Coasteering Adventures from Edinburgh | Scotland | Intrepidus Outdoors - We Adventure Vertically!
Coasteering takes exploring the Scottish coastline to the extreme. Cliff jumps, waves and navigating sea caves! What is Coasteering? To suggest coasteering is the process of traversing a section of coastline, doesn’t really do this adventure justice. We start at one golden sandy beach and make our way around the headland and across some real rugged rocky terrain. We will jump from sea cliffs, swim across choppy channels, climb through caves, scramble up rock faces and if we are lucky, pause to watch a pod of dolphins swim past. Coasteering is an amazing way to experience what Scotland has to offer from a completely new perspective. Interested? Check out: www.intrepidusoutdoors.co.uk/coasteering/ Intrepidus Outdoors is an adventure tourism and outdoor education provider based in Edinburgh. We specialise in canyoning, coasteering, mountain biking and mountaineering, and deliver these adventurous experiences across Scotland and the North of England. The experiences that we provide take clients into some of the most exquisite, incredible and extreme environments the UK has to offer. Check out our website: www.intrepidusoutdoors.co.uk/

Slieve League The Highest Cliffs in Ireland
Slieve League - Cliffs of Ireland - It was snowing this day we climbed to the top as well. We also made a hazardous trek to an old Napoleonic watch tower on the end of Carrigan Head. ENJOY! Slieve League, sometimes Slieve Leage or Slieve Liag in Irish Sliabh Liag, is a mountain on the Atlantic coast of County Donegal, Ireland. At 601 metres (1,972 ft), it has some of the highest sea cliffs on the island of Ireland. Although less famous than the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare, Slieve League's cliffs reach almost three times higher. The Belfast naturalist Robert Lloyd Praeger wrote in 1939: A tall mountain of nearly 2000 feet, precipitous on its northern side, has been devoured by the sea till the southern face forms a precipice likewise, descending on this side right into the Atlantic from the long knife-edge which forms the summit. The traverse of this ridge, the "One Man's Path", is one of the most remarkable walks to be found in Ireland - not actually dangerous, but needing a good head and careful progress on a stormy day....The northern precipice, which drops 1500 feet into the coomb surrounding the Little Lough Agh, harbours the majority of the alpine plants of Slieve League, the most varied group of alpines to be found anywhere in Donegal. Slieve League is often photographed from a viewpoint known as Bunglass. It can be reached by means of a narrow road that departs from Teelin. The final few kilometers of this route is built along a precipice and includes several places where it turns at the crest of a rise. If you go visit Ireland THIS IS A MUST SEE.

Dusty and Trinh's Traverse Area Adventures July 2018!
We pack up our new boat and head North 3 hours to Torch Lake in Northern Lower Michigan (just above Traverse City) and enjoy a day of activities in the amazing clear water. We start off by heading to some old log cribs for free diving and fishing, then I get to use my Sub Wing and fly underwater behind the boat for a while! We did a bit of scuba/hookah diving to look for trash/treasures and then had dinner at Dockside before finding a nice place to park the boat and camper van for the night. The next morning brought us into Traverse City to Denny's for Breakfast and then to Elmwood Marina to launch the boat. We took off toward Power Island in the fog and worked our way to the beach. I thought for sure that we would be the only boat there, but we weren't! :) We do some hiking around the island while it was foggy and cool and after an hour or so we came back to beautiful blue skies for free diving. I found an anchor while diving and was suprised by Trinh after I turned around and unexpectedly saw her right in front of me 30 feet down... I thought she had stayed on the surface! After diving for a while, we pack up and head back to Elmwood Marina to dive a wreck that I used to scuba dive on as a young kid. This is Trinh's first time seeing it, so I'm very excited to share it with her! It was an amazing weekend together and I hope you enjoy the video. I had a good time putting it together and enjoy making a nice lasting video memory for us. Thanks!

Sensational solo first ascent of the climb Superstitious?, Ogmore sea cliffs, by Martin Crocker
The first ascent of the climb, Superstitious? on the Ogmore sea cliffs, South Wales by South-West and Wales activist, Martin Crocker (solo) in 2003. The ascent was reported on TV by ITV West who claimed that Crocker was trying to increase the danger of climbing, rather than reduce it. There may be some truth to that claim, since the sea was not at its calmest that day (Friday the 13th).

Vertigo - 2nd pitch (The Pendulum)
The 2nd pitch of Vertigo on Cannon Cliff (Franconia Notch) in New Hampshire. Unless your up for a 5.12 slab traverse, it's common to use a Pendulum during this pitch (15:52). This was our first time on Cannon Cliff, and was my first time on anything considered a big wall. Hell of a fun day. Made a few mistakes but nothing serious. The entire climb is on video for anyone looking for beta. Our videos of Vertigo: 1st Pitch, Eric leading - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wM3j3wmk7wE 2nd Pitch, Me Leading (Eric's perspective) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw__0w7xzG0 2nd Pitch, Eric cleaning - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NCXOVZZNEI 3rd Pitch, Eric leading - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8-5Sw8YOWM 3rd Pitch, Me cleaning - http://youtu.be/flkBElM6PyU 4th Pitch, Eric Cleaning - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oa0Aly3F9lQ 5th Pitch (the half-moon off width) * me leading - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUKwtWJkYY0 * Eric cleaning - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aLBTz1YcZ8 Cliff notes: * I would extend the rope longer then I did during the pendulum. I ended up coming up a little short. * I wasn't to found of the pendulum "anchor" being a single bolt. It looked solid enough, but there really isn't anywhere else to place anything. It looks like I have a free 1 foot draw/runner hanging there not attached to anything. I just used the biner on it to attach the webbing/cord to the rope. * We ended up doing the whole climb in 5 pitches. We had intended to do it in 4, but I made a mistake in figuring our position during this video (17:03). Comments in the video explain this. This pitch can be combined with the next (what we made the third pitch), just make sure your leader is up for a good bit of climbing. If you're using a single rope, I'd recommend just doing it the way we did.

Write a comment! :D ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About Subnautica: Subnautica is an open world survival game in development by Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Subnautica allows the player to explore an aquatic alien planet by scuba diving and traveling in , while collecting resources and food to survive. It was released on Steam Early Access on December 16, 2014, and is currently in development for Xbox One. The Xbox release was in August 2016. The player controls in first-person view the lone survivor of a crashed ship on an aquatic planet. The main objective of the player is to explore the open world environment and survive the dangers of the planet, while also continuing the story. Subnautica allows the player to collect resources, construct tools, bases, and submersibles, and interact with the planet's wildlife. Players must keep themselves adequately hydrated and fed, and must also maintain their oxygen supply while traversing underwater. The game also includes a day and night cycle. Subnautica was first announced by Unknown Worlds Entertainment on December 17, 2013, with Charlie Cleveland as the game director and lead gameplay programmer, and Hugh Jeremy as the producer. The development team opted to use the Unity engine rather than Spark, the engine used for the company's previous game, Natural Selection 2. Subnautica producer Hugh Jeremy justified this decision because of the different demands that the game places on the engine, and "because [the team] does not include people working on Spark, it's not appropriate for Subnautica to use Spark. By using Unity for Subnautica, Spark can continue to develop in certain directions, while Subnautica develops in others. To use Spark for Subnautica would be to try and square peg a round hole." The development team also opted against the inclusion of lethal weapons in the game. Charlie Cleveland, the game's director, described Subnautica as "one vote towards a world with less guns," and had felt inspired by real life gun violence, including the Sandy Hook shooting, to encourage players to think about "non-violent and more creative solutions to solve our problems." Subnautica was released on Steam Early Access on December 16, 2014, and is currently in development for Xbox One. Subnautica was originally planned to be released on Xbox One on April 1, 2016, but was ultimately delayed by another month. Full V1.0 release is planned for September 2017.

Seven Peaks Walk
Lord Howe Island is one of the best walking destinations in Australia. Its World Heritage listing is for scenic beauty, biodiversity and rare flora and fauna, and there's a large variety of terrain in a small area. You can explore the intertidal zone at low tide and discover amazing life forms, you can climb small hills and capture vistas that feature in David Attenborough documentaries, and you can climb big mountains. When your legs need a break, you can swim with reef sharks and turtles over the southernmost coral reef in the Pacific. The Seven Peaks Walk is Lord Howe's premier 5 day guided adventure that takes you from pristine beaches and exposed coral platforms to the delicate mist forests on Mt Gower. Along the way, you'll see sheltered swimming coves, subtropical palm forests, freshwater creeks, rugged sea cliffs and volcanic peaks. Some sections of the walk, such as the Lower Road on Mt Lidgbird, wind along exposed narrow ledges (protected by ropes, of course) across a 300 vertical metre cliff. If it wasn't for the ocean and seabirds, you could be traversing on a Via Ferrata in the Italian Alps. Other sections of the walk take you deep into Jurassic Park style banyan forests with the only rookeries of Providence petrels in the world. When you yell, the curious birds land at your feet, almost hypnotised. It's an incredible experience. After a memorable day, you’ll return to Pinetrees for a hot shower, cold beer, exceptional 4 course dinner, great wine and luxurious bed. You may find the perfect balance between physical exercise, mental stimulation, social interaction and, well, some of life’s more enjoyable treats. Did we mention the day spa? The Seven Peaks Walk is for experienced hikers who enjoy a challenge by day, and some luxury by night. A few sections of the walk are ‘off-track’ and require a steady head for heights. You also need to be fit – as a guide, you should be able to walk 10km in 3 hours and climb 300 stairs in 20 minutes (free tip: use the trip as motivation to train for a few months before you come). All groups are led by former park ranger and mountain guide, Dean Hiscox, from Lord Howe Environmental Tours, and supported by former United Nations ecologist, Luke Hanson, from Pinetrees Lodge. The maximum group size is 12 guests, with a guest to guide ratio of 6:1. If you're looking for something more challenging - perhaps bordering on 'mission' or 'epic' status with guaranteed scratches and sunburn, combined with an immense sense of achievement - then you should consider our Adventure Challenge Week. We've had great reviews in the media, including a feature article in Great Walks Magazine and a feature article in the Sydney Morning Herald (by Louise Southerden, the 2013 Australian Travel Writer of the Year). Backpacking Kalalau Trail Kauai, Hawaii | Na Pali Coast
I have reviewed the hike and provide a great description of what to expect/bring on my blog: https://scottrasak.tumblr.com/post/33398874306/napali-coast-kauai-hike The Kalalau Trail is an 11 mile trail that leads from Ke'e Beach to Kalalau Beach on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. The Na Pali Coast is a very special place. The pali, or cliffs, provide a rugged grandeur of deep, narrow valleys ending abruptly at the sea. Waterfalls and swift flowing streams continue to cut these narrow valleys while the sea carves cliffs at their mouths. Extensive stone walled terraces can still be found on the valley bottoms where Hawaiians once lived and cultivated taro. The Kalalau Trail provides the only land access to this part of the rugged coast. The trail traverses 5 valleys before ending at Kalalau Beach where it is blocked by sheer, fluted pali. The 11-mile trail is graded but almost never level as it crosses above towering sea cliffs and through lush valleys. The trail drops to sea level at the beaches of Hanakapi'ai and Kalalau. Originally built in the late 1800s, portions of the trail were rebuilt in the 1930s. A similar foot trail linked earlier Hawaiian settlements along the coastline. For most backpackers in good condition hiking the 11 miles will take a full day. Get an early start to avoid overexertion in the midday heat.

The Bell Traverse Hike Is INTENSE
We continue and complete our hiking trip by smashing the Bell Traverse and then walking from Twins Cave through the Umlambonja Valley and back out into civilization. This trip was incredible and tested me physically - I don't think my infected arm helped much but it was intense nonetheless. Jason and Jason were undoubtedly also tired but those beasts got me through it. I'll be back to the Drakensberg. REEL ROCK Film Tour Powered by Goal Zero
The REEL ROCK Film Tour has been showcasing the exploits of the best climbers and explorers in the world for the last decade. Last year’s travel itinerary alone included Japan, Borneo, Morocco, the Swiss Alps, the Utah Desert, English Sea Cliffs and even Mount Everest. Their films document and share the seclusionist sport of climbing with the public and inspires the next generation of explorers. One of the challenges they face is keeping their equipment powered while out on location. Sometimes their expeditions last for months and while on these full scale productions, they don’t travel light. With multiple cameras, computers, headlamps, hard drives, walkie talkies and phones to power, they rely on solar to stay charged. For more on the REEL ROCK Film Tour and their soon to be released film visit:http://www.goalzero.com/solarlife/?p=8368

Climbing Tasmania's Totem Pole (7.30 Report)
The rugged sea cliffs that tower along the Tasman Peninsula are home to one of the most iconic playgrounds for outdoor rock climbing, the Totem Pole. The ABC's 7.30 program joined a group of climbers filming an ascent of the narrow 60-metre sea stack at Cape Hauy. "It's one of the first really remote climbing locations that I remember seeing a picture of," American climber Libby Sauter says. "Being on the sides of cliffs going up them and just being out in the wild is where we get our jollies." Adding to the challenge is the notorious Tassie weather, with high winds and a thick sea mist setting in as the team begins to climb...

coasteering web optimized
This really has got to be the ultimate coasteering adventure that you are ever likely to experience! After getting kitted out at the centre you will get a thorough safety briefing from us with regards to the day's activities prior to departing to the drop off point at the Breakwater Country Park. From the county park it is then a 15 -- 20 min walk to the start point. adventure-2This is where the day really begins after a member of our staff has checked you over the session starts with a free hanging abseil over the biggest sea cave in Wales, where you will either land on the beach below or if the tide is in you could be in for a wet entry 150ft below followed by a short swim to shore. Once all of the group are safely down it's time to Rendezvous with Diggs and time for our first coasteering session of the day, this session takes in some of the finest and most inaccessible stretches of coastline to be found anywhere in Wales, with towering sea cliffs, sea caves and sea stacks some of the obstacles that will need to be negotiated en-route, as well as passing by Fly Trap, Spiders Web, Dream of White Horses, and T Rex, some of the best sea cliff climbs to be found in the British Isles. Having finished this first section of the Adventure Coasteering course it's time to Rendezvous with Diggs and swim out to the waiting Rib to be whisked around to a secluded beach for some deserved refreshments and a spot of lunch. After lunch it's time to swim back out to the Rib for a guided tour of the coastline en-route to our next location for another spot of Coasteering ,where you will get to practice everything taught during the mornings activity. However as expected, we have turned things up a notch with harder traverses and bigger jumps lying in wait before a final Rib ride back to the beach. After a final swim to shore it's a short walk back to the centre and time for a hot shower and drinks. We have over time continued to develop our own unique courses, this year is no different. This year will see us forming a working partnership with local rib charter "Diggs" owner of SBS Charters. Like ourselves Diggs has lived and worked in the area for most of his life and has been involved with the sea for virtually all his life. Training as a commercial diver in 1974 then going on to spend the next 10 years as a fisherman whilst gaining more qualifications in survival at sea and fire fighting at sea. If this isn't enough he is an RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor and a member of the local lifeboat crew, including two years as Senior Helmsman. His knowledge of the waters around Anglesey is encyclopaedic! Our Adventure Coasteering Sessions are generally run on demand, we do however have certain dates in the diary that we fill with small groups and individuals, if you would like more information about our Adventure Coasteering then either use our on-line booking form or call us on 01407 761777 or alternatively 07906 006360.
