Building with Grian - Minecraft Rustic House Tutorial
Making this house took about 35 minutes in 100% vanilla creative mode minecraft. Condensing 35 mins of footage into a tutorial without missing out any bits was insanely difficult, so that's why some areas are really sped up, sorry if you couldn't follow. However, this video isn't about copying me block for block, its about learning the technique and steps required to make something similar in this style. As I said, this tutorial isn't a get out of jail free card, you won't get instant results like with my other videos. You will have to practise and be patient! Thanks for watching, I hope it helped! I made this video mainly because I'm going to be doing a lets build series where the main focus is using this style, since I want it to be viewer friendly and for you to try it on your minecraft world, I'm trying to teach you all the parts necessary before I start it. Beautiful Treehouse-Style Cabins on Stilts - Full Tour
In this video, we take a tour of 2 tree house-style cabins on stilts at the Canopée Lit eco-resort in Sacré Coeur, Québec. The first one we see is a summer cabin.  It's just one simple room with a double bed and they gave it a rustic interior design look by using unfinished wood panelling and branches so that it literally feels like the cabin was carved out of the forest.  One thing we really like about this cabin is the big bubble skylight above the bed.  It makes the room nice and bright during the day, and it would be cool for looking at the stars at night.  There's also a horizontal curtain that you can pull across the skylight to keep the room dark in the morning or to keep the sun from heating up the room too much.  There's a huge balcony outside with a great view and a functional little kitchen. There's also a breakfast box on a pulley that the resort uses to deliver your breakfast in the morning. There is a composting toilet and shower at the bottom of the stairs. The second cabin is an all-season cabin.  They've got a bedroom in the loft up a curving staircase.  The kitchen and sitting area are indoors in this one and they look a bit more comfortable although you do lose the camping feel of the summer cabin. The composting toilet, shower and sink are inside too which is nice and it looks like the shower stall is made out of an old wine barrel. The cabins all have 1 solar panel and a propane heater but we don't think they're completely off the grid.  There are half a dozen of these cabins spaced out along some trails but they're still within walking distance of the resort's main cabin where you can get access to wifi, eat at the restaurant, play board games & stuff like that. You can see that the cabins aren't true treehouses since they're built on stilts but they still give you a great view, and it's a good alternative if you want to build a tall structure like this but don't have a mature tree to build it in. Check out the Canopée Lit website if you're interested in learning more: www.canopee-lit.com We also made a video about the bubble tents at Canopée Lit here: https://youtu.be/45UoPLPhy7M Thanks for watching! Building a Timber Frame Staircase - Timber framing - Woodworking
I built this timber frame staircase from reclaimed beams that came from another client's house a few miles up the road. The beams use to support a pergola, that was torn down during their remodel. We brought them back to my shop and cut all the joinery, to emulate a timber framing. We made a template of the area where the stairs where going to go and brought it back to the shop and pre-made them. The install was fairly straightforward as they were already in assembled in sections. All that was left was to put them in place and bolt them in. The through tenons with the wedges were of course, as much of my work. Inspired by traditional Japanese joinery techniques. Building a Rustic Log Cabin: Wood Plank Flooring and the Cost of Early Retirement
#logcabin #wood #shelter Busy week at the log cabin in the forest as I rush to cut enough firewood to heat the cabin for the winter, add more moss between the logs in the walls, build a new door, build the framing for the floors and install a 2”x6” pine wood plank floor. For the floor boards, I used the same technique as the roof – shou sugi ban, a Japanese wood preservation technique. In the floor, I construct a wood box set into the ground with concrete base, and will insulate it and the entire floor with sawdust next week. With most of the chinking done, the cabin gets up above 20 degrees Celsius with the fire burning. This week, a deer gets into my hay bale archery target, spending three nights eating it. With all of snow, the deer are starting to move to their winter deer yards, so I’ll know soon if any are going to stick around for the winter. The snow comes and goes at this time of year – 4” of snow on the ground one day and next to nothing a few days later. I talk more than usual in this video, first explaining why I’m building this cabin and simplifying my life, how much you need to have saved in order to retire and how much this lifestyle costs. Near the end of the video, I talk about Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and our penchant for spending money on too many possessions. I compare our modern habits to laws of nature, and why I believe we will never get our bad habits under control. Of course, I cook at least one meal in the cast iron pan on the fire, eating prime rib roast two days in a row. Building A Rustic Chicken Coop With Reclaimed Wood
This chicken coop was built for my wife's sister Becca. It was originally constructed in my garage shop in Colorado Springs. The coop was then taken apart and transported 90 miles to Fowler, CO where it was reassembled. The siding consists of repurposed fence pickets which give it an authentic, rustic look. I also used some of the old fence frame 2x4’s in the construction as well. Reusing this old wood has given it new life and spared it from ending up in the landfill. The roof is made of DaVinci Slate composite tiles which were supplied by Ken Jones of Cheyenne Mountain Roofing in Colorado Springs. Please note, I am not a trained carpenter and this coop was not built to satisfy building code for human living. It is the sole responsibility of the constructer to know the rules and guidelines for their own building projects in their designated areas. It is my hope that this video will provide assistance to those looking for ideas and inspiration in their own projects. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy. -JL

How to build a Farmhouse Table - The Most Complete Video Online - Episode 7
The most complete and in-depth video on how to build a farmhouse table. DIY PETE shows the entire process from start to finish. This farm table can be built out of everyday construction grade lumber for under $200. *Please NOTE: While my table has held up well and had only a small amount of movement after 2 1/2 years, there are certainly things I would do differently with more experience under my belt. For beginners, I'd recommend using biscuits and glue for the top planks. Dowels or floating tenons/dominos are another option. Do make sure to let the wood properly dry. Plans are based off Ana-White's build geared towards beginning DIY'ers. Pocket holes are a simple way to connect boards, but if you do have access to a biscuit joiner or are capable of more advanced joinery please go for it. For more info, project photos, and downloadable plans check out: http://www.DIYPETE.com/farmhousetable Benches: http://ana-white.com/2013/10/plans/4x4-truss-benches *Note that these are affiliate links, meaning that when you buy something that is recommended below, it helps support the Channel. Thanks in advance! *Tools Needed Power Drill - http://amzn.to/1OxMfnt 12″ Miter Saw - http://amzn.to/1VUVo8s Kreg Jig - http://amzn.to/1X7Bd9H Orbital Sander - http://amzn.to/1VUVNYy Clamps - http://amzn.to/1LwiDEs *Supplies Needed 2 1/2 inch Kreg Screws - http://amzn.to/1VUVPzF 6 inch Torq Screws - Need about 40 - 4.5 inch Torq Screws - Need about 20 2.5 inch Torq Screws - Need about 20 Stain ( or White Vinegar / Steel Wool ) You’ll need to buy 4×4, 2×10, and 2×4 boards for this project. These boards can be found at your local lumber yard. Take your time to find quality boards that are straight and have little warp. First, I built the table top out of 2x10s. I used 5 2×10’s for the main part of the table and a 2×10 for each breadboard end. Ana’s plans call for four main boards, but I wanted a little larger area to spread out. I used a 12″ miter saw to make all of the cuts. I cut the 5 boards to 69 inches long. Here is a look at the table top. A 2×10 board is actually 9 1/4 inches wide. The total dimensions of the top are 46 1/4 inches by 87 1/2 inches. Set the Kreg Jig at the 1 1/2 inch setting for the stock thickness. (My video says 2 1/2 inch setting but I meant to say 1 1/2 inch.) You’ll attach each board using the 2.5 inch long Kreg Jig screws. It helps to clamp the boards to each other and use a little body weight to get the boards even with each other. Drill two pocket holes on the ends of each board as well. They will be used to connect the main boards to the breadboard. I had to modify the width of the base a bit so that it fit the wider table top. I built the two ends out of 4×4’s. I used 6″ long torq screws (also known as star pattern screws or leg screws) to connect them (about 3 for each joint). The two vertical boards are cut at 10 degree angles (parallel to each other). Connect the two ends together with the 4×4 horizontal beams on top and bottom. I didn’t have an extra set up hands to help me, so I used Jack Clamps to help hold everything up while I tied the boards together with 6″ torq screws. Attach the base to the top using 4.5″ torq screws through the 4×4 beams. Use 2 inch torq screws to connect the 2×4 to the table top. (I counter sunk mine a bit). Here is a look at the completed table prior to staining and sealing the piece. I also created matching benches to fit this table. The plans can be found by clicking here. I modified the width so they are a total of 69″ wide. Instead of using a 2×10 for the breadboards I use 2×8’s. Everything else was kept the same as Ana’s plans. The inside span of my table where the benches fit in is 73″ so that left 2 inches of wiggle room on each side of the bench so it can easily slide in and out. The next step is to make the table unique to you. I decided to distress the farm table by using tools around the shop to make the table look worn. I used nails to create wormhole marks and a circular saw blade and hammer to put some character into the table. I used a #00 Steel Wool and White Vinegar solution to patina the wood and give it an aged look. Put a good handful of steel wool in a jar and add white vinegar. Let the vinegar dilute the steel wool for at least 3 to 4 days. The mixture will get darker the longer you let it sit. I let mine sit for a full week. Once diluted, simply brush the mixture on your piece. Oxidation will occur as the mixture reacts with the tannins in the wood to give it variations in color. Building A Bodgers Shavehorse (Complete Tutorial)
I spent a few days with full time professional green woodworker Neill Mapes in the West of England, where he very kindly allowed me to document his entire process for building a ‘Bodgers’ style Shave Horse entirely from scratch using a freshly felled piece of Ash from a local woodland, using a combination of hand and power tools Yes this is a very long video but this is literally three days worth of process condensed as much as possible into video form so as not to miss out any and all essential information. Also Neill was eager to cover as many techniques as possible so as to give you options when building your very own Shave Horse To connect with Neill Mapes: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Neill-Mapes-Woodsmith-and-Woodland-artisan-217505054928302/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/greenman2020/ To find out more about the Small Wood organisation: Website - https://smallwoods.org.uk Below is a detailed timeline of every single component of this tutorial should you wish to skip to that particular segment: 00h 00m 00s - Intro 00h 03m 31s - Example of a Bodgers style shave horse 00h 07m 31s - Assessing the piece of Ash and making a score line 00h 10m 28s - Splitting the Ash with metal wedges 00h 15m 25s - Severing the straps (fibres) with an axe 00h 18m 48s - Securing the split Ash with Timber Dogs 00h 22m 17s - Making a straight line on the split Ash using a chalk line 00h 23m 07s - Neill discussing how he is going to level the face of the split piece of Ash 00h 25m 26s - Levelling the face of the split Ash with a small forest axe 00h 27m 50s - Making some stop cuts on the face of the split Ash with a chainsaw 00h 30m 47s - Levelling the face of the split Ash with a broad axe 00h 33m 08s - Type of woods you can use to make a shave horse 00h 34m 46s - Marking the length of the shave horse 00h 36m 15s - Laying the Ash on its front and marking the central line / outline 00h 43m 10s - Shaping the saddle with an adze 00h 49m 08s - Shaping the saddle with an in-shave 00h 53m 54s - Shaping the saddle & surface with a travisher 01h 04m 10s - Milling a plank using an Alaskan chainsaw mill 01h 08m 26s - Cleaving the legs 01h 12m 38s - Shaping the legs with an axe 01h 18m 32s - Shaping the legs with a draw knife 01h 23m 54s - Shaping a round tenon on the leg using a rounder plane 01h 28m 25s - Drilling the holes for the legs using a scotch eyed auger 01h 34m 20s - Inserting the leg into the body 01h 37m 13s - All legs fitted and testing stability of the shave horse 01h 38m 11s - Cutting the side arms from the plank using a saw 01h 45m 16s - Cutting the ramp from the plank using a saw 01h 47m 25s - Discussing and making the wedge / block that goes underneath the ramp 01h 50m 12s - Discussing the side arms and the round pieces that go into it 01h 54m 48s - Cleaving the round components 01h 57m 17s - Shaping the round pieces with an axe 02h 01m 12s - Shaping the round pieces with a draw knife 02h 04m 31s - An introduction to Pole Lathe 02h 07m 23s - Turning the round foot piece that attaches to the bottom of the side arms 02h 17m 21s - Turning the round clamp piece that attaches to the top of the side arms 02h 26m 25s - Turning the round pivot piece that attaches to the middle of the side arms 02h 33m 24s - Turning the round peg piece that locks the ramp in place 02h 38m 35s - Techniques for cutting a Tenon if you don’t have a Rounder Plane 02h 43m 30s - Looking at all four round pieces that were turned 02h 45m 12s - Measurements for the holes on the side arms 02h 46m 33s - Tweaking the top round clamp piece so it grips wood better 02h 48m 48s - Drilling the holes in the side arms using a Brace & Bit 02h 53m 02s - Using a steel wire on the pole lathe to add an effect to one of the round pieces 02h 54m 17s - Doing a dry run to check that all the round pieces fit into the side arms ok 02h 55m 16s - Drilling the holes into the main body using a brace & bit 03h 01m 34s - Drilling the hole into the ramp using a brace & bit 03h 05m 30s - Carving oak pegs with a straight edge knife and drilling holes the holes for it 03h 07m 58s - Conclusion As always I appreciate you watching Take care Peace Zed --------------------------------------------------- [Blog]-- http://zedoutdoors.com [Twitter]-- http://zedoutdoors.com/twitter [Snapchat]-- http://zedoutdoors.com/snapchat [Facebook]-- http://zedoutdoors.com/facebook [Instagram]-- http://zedoutdoors.com/instagram

Building The Woodshop
This is about how I built my wood shop. We decided to move from our previous home for a variety of reasons. I saw the move as an opportunity to gain a bigger shop for my wood working hobby. The house we found had everything we wanted, except for a shop or even a garage. It did have a non functioning indoor pool. We thought this space would make a nice wood shop. I could just build a floor over the pool and have a shop. As we got further into the inspection process, it was looking as though fixing the structure over the pool was going to be expensive. It looked like we would have to put a bunch of money into a structure that was not really a wood shop and not a functioning pool either. It made more sense to take out the pool and structure, and then build a wood shop from the ground up. We started this project by regrading our side yard to gain access to the pool in the backyard. Once we had access, we took out the pool. We half filled the hole where the pool was with compacted gravel. I realized that if we sank the shop into the ground I could have the ceiling height I had always wanted in the shop and preserve the view from the house. The design of the shop is a box with a shed roof. The roof wraps down the east side of the structure. I like to think of it as a slightly open toolbox. The entire shop is laid out on a 24 inch grid. The windows and doors fall within this grid. I had a general contractor built the shell and then I built the windows and interior. The interior walls are comprised of a 34 inch concrete stem wall at the base. Above that is a 9 foot, plywood wall. In the space above the plywood wall and below the shed roof is poly carbonate panel to form a clerestory. The tool layout in the shop is divided into 4 areas: an area near the door for material storage and prep, a central area for general wood working, and two areas near the back of the shop, one for turning and one for metal working. woodshop tour: http://youtu.be/XmDAInbnPYQ band saw video: http://youtu.be/jupHDlunwjg jointer video: http://youtu.be/l55YFRHBGx4 http://www.frankmakes.com/

How I Made My Sliding Barn Door | Rustic Modern
I made this barn door to solve a problem in my bedroom. This door is very unique to my space. I made this sliding door because I have a glass door in my bedroom. We were lacking privacy, I installed tint on the window but at night that's no good. I didn't want to install curtains. I like the look of the sliding barn door. So I chose to hide the exterior door with a sliding barn door setup. Problem solved!
