Asset Management: Industry Overview and Careers in Asset Management
Asset Management: Industry overview and Careers in Asset Management Asset Management is about managing clients’ investments and providing them with the strategies and expertise that would allow them to achieve their goals and secure their financial future. This video is part of our series dedicated to the different sub-industries in the world of Business & Finance. Our goal is to understand how it functions, what type of services it offers its clients, which are the major players in the field and what it is like to do this for a living. An individual or an institution is likely to approach an asset management firm when their investment income is substantial. In such cases, asset managers are able to offer expertise across a wide spectrum of asset classes (such as stocks, bonds, commodities, real estate, private equity, etc). Moreover, large firms have branches all over the world and are therefore able to offer geographical expertise as well. Given that asset managers closely follow all of these markets, they are able to offer high-quality advice and superior risk-return investments. The large players in the asset management industry are indeed very large. There are several companies whose assets under management exceed $1 trillion. Some of them are pure investment funds (BlackRock, Vanguard, StateStreet, Fidelity), while others are arms of the large banking conglomerates (Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, UBS, BNP). The largest firm in the world in terms of assets under management in 2015 was BlackRock. Private Sector vs. Public Sector
If you were mailing an extremely important package, you'd probably trust FedEx more than the U.S. Postal Service. But why? Is it because FedEx is a private company, while the post office is run by the government? What are the differences between the "private sector" and the government sector? Why does it matter? Politicians in the media often talk about the private and public sectors of our economy but what's the difference? And which one is more effective? The private sector is made up of businesses or corporations owned by people. The private sector includes malls, grocery stores, and your local diner. To make a profit in the private sector, businesses must earn our money by offering us products and services that we want or need. When businesses have to compete for the same dollars, prices go down because no one wants to pay twice as much for shoes at one store if you can get the same pair cheaper at another place. On the other hand, the public sector is not supported by profits. It doesn't have to compete for our dollars. Instead, the public sector uses our tax dollars to fund its services. So we pay for these programs no matter how much or how little we use them. The government decides how our tax dollars should be spent in the public sector. This makes sense for some things. For example, you probably wouldn't want firefighters or police officers competing with one another for your business. In other cases though, this means things cost more or service is worse. The U.S. Post Office has $100 billion in debt and is regularly bailed out with taxpayer money. And the Department of Motor Vehicles isn't usually known for fast, friendly service. In contrast, private companies know that if they offer poor customer service and don't make money, they'll go out of business. When comparing the private sector with the public sector, it's clear that the market-driven private sector is more efficient. When you don't have to be profitable or accountable, things tend to be more expensive and the service is worse. So when there's a choice between a private sector or a government service, think about that package you really need delivered.

Increasing Cross Sales At Retail Bank New Account Openings
http://crossselling.com Increase Cross-Selling at retail bank New Account Openings (NAO Process) Now! The NAO Process is a revolutionary, unique and proprietary methodology that maximizes cross-selling at NAOs. Its impact is immediate and lasting at NAOs and with existing customers as well. The NAO Process targets the logically-related products/services necessary for customers to appropriately manage and prosper in their financial lives from the very beginning of their relationship with the bank. It is ethical and needs-based. There is no product pushing. The NAO Process can be delivered entirely in-branch, so there is neither a loss of time for employees for typical one-day training sessions, nor the expenses of travel, "books", etc. It rapidly improves banker/manager confidence because of the competence they acquire from the NAO Process. Also, based upon the results that bankers/managers produce, and the customer satisfaction they experience, confidence is further enhanced.

What's it like to move to the UK?
What's it like to move to and live in London? In this video, I interview Kamila, one of my students, who moved to the UK from Poland. You will hear about Kamila's experiences of coming to the UK to live, study, and work. Kamila talks about her first impressions, the weather, the food, and the differences between her life in Poland and in London. And of course, we talk about her experience of learning English and adapting to life and work in an English-speaking country! Watch over 1000 English lesson videos for free at https://www.engvid.com/ TRANSCRIPT Gill: Hello. I'm Gill at www.engvid.com and today's lesson is not really a lesson because we're doing something a little bit different. We're having an interview with someone I know who has come to the UK from another country and is living and working here. So, I'd like to introduce Camilla, and we're going to ask her some questions about her experience of coming to the UK and living here. So, let's get started. So, Camilla, thank you for coming. Kamila: Thank you for having me. Gill: It's lovely to see you. You're very welcome. Thank you. And so, would you like to tell us a little bit about yourself, where you're from, how you came to decide to come to the UK? Kamila: Yes, so my name is Camilla. I come from Poland. So my first language is Polish. Before I arrived in the UK I have lived in Warsaw for a couple of years. And so I worked there for a bank for over seven years in corporate banking as Product Manager. And here in London I work for a fintech startup. I'm a credit analyst of small companies. I really like my job. I enjoy it. There is a lot of going on there. My company is still developing, so I also have opportunities to develop in diverse areas. Gill: Okay. Kamila: So yeah, I'm really happy to be part of it. Gill: Oh, that's good. So, lovely. So, "fintech", that means financial...? Kamila: Financial and technology. Gill: Finance and technology. Kamila: Yes, exactly. Gill: Used together for... Kamila: Yes, exactly. Gill: Financial, for funding. Kamila: Yeah, because... Yeah, exactly. Because we lent money for small companies, but making our credit decisions we use a lot of technology. We use some algorithms and so on, so that's why fintech. Gill: Okay, lovely. So, have you always spoken English? When did you first start to learn English in your life? Kamila: Yeah, so I learned English in high school and during my studies. Also after I finished my education I attended some English lessons in Poland where I was working there. And so I felt that I understood quite a lot, but I had a fear of speaking because I think that in my opinion teachers put a lot of pressure on drama, which is good of course, but there is... Because of that there is a little time for practicing speaking, so a lot of people fear of speaking. They don't feel confident enough to speak. Yeah, and that was also my case. Gill: Yes. I think I experienced the same when I was at school. It was... A lot of it was based on written, and reading and writing. Kamila: Yes, exactly. Gill: And exams, writing exams and the tests. Kamila: Yes, exactly. Gill: So... So... So since then, do you feel that you...? Was it when you came to the UK that you started getting more practice at speaking? Kamila: Yes, exactly. So, I feel that since I arrived here in the UK my English language skills have improved. I feel more confident. So, yeah, I decided that first couple month I would work on my English, so I read lots of newspapers, I watched some TV programs, I watched some TV series with subtitles, and I also attended private English lessons with great teacher. Gill: Oh. [Laughter] Kamila: Who has also helped me not only to improve my spoken English, but also to... It gave me some insight into English culture and politics sometimes, and everyday life, and things to see in London, so I really enjoyed that and I would recommend it to everyone who... Gill: Yeah. Kamila: Is thinking about moving to UK, for example. Gill: Yeah, so I remember we... We've had a lot of very interesting conversations about English politics. Kamila: Yeah. Gill: And about the culture and different types of food. Kamila: Yeah, yeah. Gill: And all of that. Kamila: Yes, exactly. Gill: So... So, did you ever come to the UK for a holiday before you came to live here? Kamila: Yeah, so it's a funny story because the first school trip abroad I took part in was to London, I was 11 years old, but I can still recall some memories from this trip. For example, my first impression was that there were lots of people walking along the pavement, so it was really crowded. And also I saw a lot of people very smart dressed and it was a really big surprise for me because then I lived in small city, so you know, that smart clothes were designed for some special occasions, like wedding or something, and here I saw a lot of people so smart, like dressed up, so... Gill: Yes, being the capital city. Kamila: Yeah.

IMQubator Seeding Model: Engineering hedge fund products to be bought, not sold
Subscribe to this channel: http://www.youtube.com/OpalesqueTV IMQubator is a Dutch emerging manager seeding fund that connects institutional investors with emerging asset management talent. The firm was founded by Jeroen Tielman in 2009 with a €250m investment from APG, the asset manager for Dutch pensions giant Stichting Pensioenfonds ABP. In this Opalesque.TV interview, Tielman gives insight into IMQubator's seeding model, which seeks to address escalating investor concerns over lack of liquidity, inadequate transparency, fee structures, and governance structures that overwhelmingly benefit managers, by providing a pure "end-investor" model. According to Tielman, because seeders can connect with top emerging managers in a unique moment of their professional life-cycle where capital infusion is critical, seeding is that perfect moment to align interest between investors and managers. He promotes adjusting governance structures together with the emerging manager to provide end-investors with more power, engineering hedge fund products "to be bought, not sold". Institutional investor liability mismatches can therefore benefit from the absolute return nature of hedge fund investments, which are skill based - as opposed to long only - while capitalizing on improved governance structures. In addition, learn about the following: • The IMQubator seeding partnership model: -End-investor orientation: Aligns interests between investors and managers through enhanced governance -Geographic proximity to managers -Support operations and business development -Utilize the IMQubator Capital Introduction Network • Finding focused, innovative, liquid strategies with risk discipline • Selecting managers through a 4-dimensional process analysis • Partnering to find emerging managers in China • Seeding skill-based absolute return strategies to address institutional liability mismatches Jeroen Tielman is the CEO of IMQ Investment Management B.V. and the founder of the IMQubator hedge seeding fund. During his employment at ABN AMRO between 1986 and 2000, Tielman has gained experience in the area of investment analysis (incl. RBA), institutional sales (US), international corporate finance/M&A, and the development of asset management products as global head product development within ABN AMRO Asset Management. With the founding of the investment product-engineering boutique FundPartners in 2000, Tielman also gained experience as an entrepreneur, motivator of a team of high-level professionals, strategic advisor to pension funds and private banks, and as advisor on pension product design. Between 2006 and 2008 Tielman was Managing Director Commerce, Strategy & Innovation with Cordares. During 2008 Tielman extended his international pension fund contact network while working with among others TIAA-CREF on a pension investment collaboration initiative. In January 2009 he founded IMQubator. Tielman organizes the PensionSummit annually as a podium for and by pension funds (www.PensionSummit.com) since 2002.

Generally this includes advice on the use of various estate planning vehicles, business-succession or stock-option planning, and the occasional use of hedging derivatives for large blocks of stock. Traditionally, the wealthiest retail clients of investment firms demanded a greater level of service, product offering and sales personnel than that received by average clients. With an increase in the number of affluent investors in recent years, there has been an increasing demand for sophisticated financial solutions and expertise throughout the world. The CFA Institute curriculum on private-wealth management indicates that two primary factors distinguish the issues facing individual investors from those facing institutions: 1. Time horizons differ. Individuals face a finite life as compared to the theoretically/potentially infinite life of institutions. This fact requires strategies for transferring assets at the end of an individual's life. These transfers are subject to laws and regulations that vary by locality and therefore the strategies available to address this situation vary. This is commonly known as accumulation and decumulation. 2. Individuals are more likely to face a variety of taxes on investment returns that vary by locality. Portfolio investment techniques that provide individuals with after tax returns that meet their objectives must address such taxes. The term "wealth management" occurs at least as early as 1933. It came into more general use in the elite retail (or "Private Client") divisions of firms such as Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley (before the Dean Witter Reynolds merger of 1997), to distinguish those divisions' services from mass-market offerings, but has since spread throughout the financial-services industry. Family offices that had formerly served just one family opened their doors to other families, and the term Multi-family office was coined. Accounting firms and investment advisory boutiques created multi-family offices as well. Certain larger firms (UBS, Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch) have "tiered" their platforms – with separate branch systems and advisor-training programs, distinguishing "Private Wealth Management" from "Wealth Management", with the latter term denoting the same type of services but with a lower degree of customization and delivered to mass affluent clients. At Morgan Stanley, the "Private Wealth Management" retail division focuses on serving clients with greater than $20 million in investment assets while "Global Wealth Management" focuses on accounts smaller than $10 million. In the late 1980s, private banks and brokerage firms began to offer seminars and client events designed to showcase the expertise and capabilities of the sponsoring firm. Within a few years a new business model emerged – Family Office Exchange in 1990, the Institute for Private Investors in 1991, and CCC Alliance in 1995. These companies aimed to offer an online community as well as a network of peers for ultra high-net-worth individuals and their families. These entities have grown since the 1990s, with total IT spending (for example) by the global wealth management industry predicted to reach $35bn by 2016, including heavy investment in digital channels.

#HITB2016AMS D1T2 - Hardsploit Project - Yann Allain and Julien Moinard
How long can we continue to rely on critical electronic devices without being able to properly assess their security? They control our daily lives and modern society cannot operate without them, but ironically, their security aspects remained underestimated. As they grow, it is legitimate to wonder if the IT security community and industries are prepared to secure or audit this type of equipment. These technical devices are at the heart of what is called today “Internet of Things”. We know that the technical knowledge needed to assess the security level of electronic equipment isn’t generally acquired by stakeholders (industry, software or IT security consultants, software pentesters etc.). This type of audit requires a wide range of electronics skills like analog signal processing, FPGA or the use of specific measurement tools (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, etc.). These skills are not part of those which are generally teach to people who choose to be specialized in computer security. Malicious actors are aware of this weakness. As a result they move their attentions to other less secure intrusion vectors such as hardware, embedded systems and / or microchip itself. Why? Because they are the basis of almost any equipment and the attack surface is larger. In addition, there is no built in (or few) basic security functions inside these hardware devices. Malicious actors have less barriers that can stop them. The most surprising (disturbing?) fact is that our industrial security experts have not mastered secure design techniques or audit / pentest methodology related to hardware systems. There is a gap between the threat and the operational response capacity of the actors in this field. Therefore the risks of attacks increases on the processed data in Internet of things world (personal, sensitive device supervision, industrial process, HealthCare products etc). It is clear that something is needed to help the security researchers evaluate, audit and / or control the security of embedded systems. This is what motivated us to create Hardsploit – a complete tool box (Hardware + Software) plus a Framework which aims to: Facilitate the audit of electronic systems for industry ‘security’ workers (consultant, auditor, pentesters, product designer etc.) Increase the level of security (and trust!) of new communicating products designed by the industry ====== Yann Allain is the founder and current director of the OPALE SECURITY company (www.opale-security.com). He is also a Blackhat speaker and Hack In Paris Trainer. He graduated from a computer and electronic engineering school (Polytech-Universite Pierre et Marie Curie). After a time in the electronic industry as an engineer in embedded system conception, he made a career move towards IT. He started as a production manager for a company in the financial sector (Private Banking), and evolved towards IT security when he became part of the ACCOR group. He was in charge of applicative security for the group. He has a 20 years experience, 16 of which dedicated to IT system and embedded system security. OPALE SECURITY deals with research projects linked, amongst other things to the security of embedded systems. We are the project leader of Hardsploit : a Framework like metasploit but for Hardware Hacking (http://hardsploit.io) ------ Julien Moinard, an electronics engineer with a solid background in this field (over 8 years) associated with many personal and professional experiments in the field of microcontrollers & FPGA. Furthermore, he contributes to several training in university. Julien is also the senior hardware pentester of OPALE SECURITY. He is also a Blackhat speaker and Hack In Paris Trainer. Julien is the Team Leader of the Hardsploit Project (Hardsploit.io): a framework dedicated to hardware hacking.
Chronic difficulty and failure raising assets: Why 89% of all hedge funds never get over $100m
Subscribe to this channel: http://www.youtube.com/OpalesqueTV Bryan Johnson has worked for 27 years in the alternative investment business, first as a portfolio manager for two family offices, then as founder of a family office consultancy where he worked with about 63 families investing $3 billion in private equity and hedge funds . Since 2010 he helped over 300 smaller fund managers with the holistic challenge of formulating and implementing appropriate marketing processes. With 9 out of 10 managers failing to grow over a $100m assets, smaller managers face an existential marketing challenge. The average asset size of funds liquidated in 4Q14 was $76m one year prior to closing. Johnson believes that the primary reason why most managers do not get over the hundred million hurdle is not because of poor performance, but because of poor marketing. And the problem behind that is that most managers do not have a structured, disciplined and focused marketing process to articulate not only their investment processes, skills and ability to generate sustainable ALPHA but enterprise-wide processes, operational strength and execution blueprint to the right investors. Managers should honestly reflect about their outreach procedures and aim to avoid the “unstructured, ad-hoc and inappropriate” marketing behavior that unfortunately seems to have become the norm and leads to chronic difficulty and failure raising assets. Most founders also tend to underestimate “the length of the runway”, i.e. the temporal expansion of the allocation process, particularly since the credit crisis. Gaining the attention of the right investors is a huge challenge, while at the same time investor due diligence has grown exponentially, leaving many managers overwhelmed to the extend that Johnson actually talks out 25% of them from starting a fund business. Not everyone is ready for Johnson’s tough coaching, and many founders waste two years before they realize they don’t do a good job in building their business. However, the small minority of funds that adopts the right marketing process early on have demonstrated they are able to raise four times more money than the top performing funds. In this Opalesque.TV BACKSTAGE video, Johnson also speaks about: - How to save 90% of marketing costs - Three principal mistakes that can lead to a fund’s early death plus three critical areas managers should focus to develop their business - Quantifying the U.S. family office and high net-worth investor landscape: Over U.S. 55,000 individuals and families (net worth of $50m+) managers fail to identify and engage with - Where high net-worth and family offices really look for managers - How family offices select their investments: The two top line considerations of family offices - How does an investor-centric marketing process look like? The 2-2-1 Strategy - 40 BPs versus 70 BPs: Most managers don’t know their costs of raising assets from private wealth versus institutions and generally underestimate what’s involved to get allocations - How many meetings are required to get three to five allocations? - Why performance is not a retention strategy - When should a fund manager hire a dedicated marketer? - Are third party marketers an option for smaller managers? - “Spray and pray”: Will posting returns to a commercial database attract investors? - How managers can avoid the FIFO allocation (first in, first out) - How to identify service partners: smaller managers need service partners, not service providers. Bryan Johnson is the founder of Johnson & Company, a marketing consultancy for sub-institutional hedge funds and alternative asset managers. Before that he worked as a portfolio manager inside of two family offices. He also founded and ran for 12 years a family office consultancy where he worked with about 63 families and about $3 billion in private equity and hedge funds. Johnson initially came to Texas as chief expert witness and lead consultant for The Attorney General of Texas and The State of Texas in the evaluation of hedge funds and private equity firms in the acquisition of the assets of Texas Genco in the multi-billion dollar true-up of Centerpoint Energy (CNP:NYSE). He then became global head of the alternative investment group at Moody’s where he was involved with the deployment and global distribution of an operational risk product to large hedge funds like SAC, King Street, Millennium, Fortress, Marshall Wace, Brevan Howard.

How to Get Education Loan in Hindi | By Ishan
How to Get Education Loan in Hindi | By Ishan Cost of education in India is anywhere between 5 lakhs and 12 lakhs for undergraduate engineering courses. For medical courses in India, the fees can rise up to 50 lakhs in private colleges. Business schools in India charge more than Rs 10 lakh. In abroad, cost of higher education is much higher. Again, fees in private colleges are always more than the government colleges. Under such circumstances, students look for education loans in India. With so many banks offering education loans, it is also very confusing for parents and students to choose the best one. Why do you have to choose education loan rather than a personal loan?: Many parents might feel that taking a personal loan for higher education is beneficial. But as a matter of fact, this is not true. You take personal loan at a higher rate of interest and you end up paying more. Instead, an education loan comes with a number of benefits and conveniences and is specially meant to be given for education which serves the purpose of the students. Benefits of Education Loans *Applicable for all: Any student who wants to study can apply for an education loan. Even the economically backward sections of the society can take education loans under the government-sponsored subsidy schemes such as ‘Central Scheme to provide Interest subsidy’ (CSIS). *Applicable for all courses: Education loan can be used to pursue all types of courses — graduation, post-graduation, diploma courses, vocational courses — whether in India or in foreign universities. *Easily available: Education loans are widely and easily available. In fact, they are a priority product in all banks as per the RBI’s guidelines. *Varied loan amounts: Banks can offer loans anywhere between Rs. 2 lakhs and 22 lakhs for studying in India. Of course, the size of the loan depends on the course applied for. To study abroad, the loan amount goes up to Rs.20 lakhs. *Helps in completion of education: The expense curve of education is increasing with inflation and shifting prices. To avoid hindrances in studies, education loans become essential. *Benefits: Education loans include many additional benefits like caution deposits, library fees, building deposits, laboratory fees, tuition, examination fees, hostel fees, money for buying books, instruments and uniform, travel expenses for studies abroad, etc. Low interest rate for females: Usually female students are offered loans at lower interest rates. *Easy repayment: Also, another great advantage of education loan is that the loan amount need not be repaid immediately. The repayment tenure can extend up to 5 to 7 years after the completion of the course. This makes it easy for repayment. Some basic requirements need to be fulfilled while taking a loan. These conditions are as follows: *1.The main determinants are the fees of the course to be pursued and the applicant’s annual family income. *2.There must be a co-applicant, which can be either one of the parents or sibling or spouse. *3.Loans below Rs.4 lakh do not require a guarantor or security. *4.For loans above Rs. 4 lakh, there should be a third-party guarantor. *5.For loan amount more than Rs. 7.5 lakh, a collateral is necessary. *6.For studying abroad, a student must also look for part-time jobs or sponsorship as the loan amount itself is not sufficient. *7.Insurance is compulsory for studying abroad.
