"What should I eat" or "How much should I weigh?" Today I'll be answering how much you should weigh and the rest of my videos will discuss the more complicated issue of what you should eat. I made this the first video in my What Matters for Healthy Weight Loss Series because I thought you should know how much you should weigh before you try to lose weight. I want to give people a target weight range to shoot for, so that I don't have a bunch of people that are already at a healthy weight trying to lose weight in an unhealthy way. I know our culture's version of beauty is sickly skinny and air brushed to some twisted version of ideal. I beg you to put your health first. Before I get into anything else, I want to say that if you are overweight, you don't have to get into the ideal body weight range to make a difference in your health. For heavier people, losing just 10% of your body weight can make a huge difference in your health. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good -- Just because it may not be realistic for you to reach and ideal weight, you can still do a lot for your health. So lets get to answering how much you should weigh. Several factors play into how much you should weigh like your age, gender, height, muscle mass, frame size, and current weight. Height in Meters^2 1. Age 2. Gender 3. Height 4. Muscle Mass 5. Frame Size 6. Current Weight The most popular indicator for showing what a healthy weight is Body Mass Index or BMI. BMI is a ratio of your height to weight using the following equation. BMI = Weight in Kilograms (Height in meters)^2 BMI equals weight in kilograms over height in meters squared. Here is a BMI chart so that you can check your BMI. For adults a healthy BMI is considered from 18.5 to 25. Under 18.5 is considered underweight, 25-29.9 is overweight, and 30 is considered obese. A lot of people complain that BMI isn't accurate because we know someone that clearly isn't unhealthy and overweight but is classified as overweight by BMI. And they are right, BMI isn't perfect because it doesn't account for age, gender, muscle mass, and frame size. It only uses height and weight so it shouldn't be used for the individual, for you -- however, when looking at large groups of people and collecting thousand of BMIs, it is a good indicator of body fat. So I just said that BMI isn't good for the individual, so how do you know what a healthy weight is for you? The best way to determine a healthy weight for you is to calculate your ideal body weight. The equation for ideal body weight takes weight, height, gender, and frame size into account so it's much better than BMI. First I want you to get an idea of your frame size. Wrap your thumb and middle finger around the top part of your wrist, just above the bump. If you can't get your fingers around your wrist all the way, you have a large frame size. If you can barely touch your thumb and finger, you have a medium frame size. If your fingers overlap, then you have a small frame size. Now that you know your frame size, calculate your ideal body weight with the following equation: Women: 100 lbs + (5 lbs x height in inches over 5 feet tall) +- 10% Men: 106 + (6 lbs x height in inches over 5 feet tall) +- 10% So for example, a 5'5' woman has an ideal body weight of 125 lbs plus or minus 10 percent, which comes out to a weight of 112-138 lbs. If this woman has a small frame size, a healthy weight might be closer to the lower range of that weight range. A larger frame would be at the high end of the weight range. A medium frame size closer to the middle. Also, if this woman was muscular, like an athlete, she would be healthy on the higher end of this weight range or even slightly above this weight range because the extra weight is muscle. A woman over the age of 65, especially over the age of 75, would be healthier at the high end of this weight range because older people have less muscle mass and if they carry a little extra weight, then it's actually healthier because it protects them from losing as much muscle mass as they age. Try not to get attached to one specific number. A healthy weight is always a range. I hope this has given you a little more insight into what a healthy weight is for you! I would like to say that body fat percentage and amount of muscle mass are also very useful because it is possible for you to be at a healthy weight and still have too much body fat, but they are hard to determine because more of the easy tests like the scales that tell you your bodyfat percentage aren't very accurate. If you do have access to accurate body fat testing, here is a reference table for body fat percentages:

Create yourself a bigger eating window. With eight sleeping hours, you are left with 16 hours to eat. Make a schedule of how you will have the five meals in those 16 hours. 1. Training Lifting weights is good for people trying to gain weight since it triggers the body to build muscle mass. And as a matter of fact, the answer varies according to your gender, age height, body type, and a bunch of other health factors. You may see a model in the magazines looking all slim and nice, but when it comes to YOUR personal weight, such figure isn’t really the best example to follow. The question is: Is there any formula to calculate my ideal weight? The answer is YES. In this video, we will see 3 common methods to help you work this out. BMI or body mass index is actually the most popular ratio to figure out your ideal body weight and many healthcare experts use it on a regular basis. It’s actually not that hard: You simply divide your weight in pounds in 2X your height in inches and then multiplied by 703. BMI = weight in pounds / (height in inches x height in inches) x 703 Here is an example: Sara weighs 135 pounds and is 5.5 inches tall. Her BMI in this case would be 22,5 which is among the healthy range. Experts and official resources claim that a healthy person has anywhere from 18.5-24.9 BMI--anything lower falls into the skinny category whereas a BMI of 25+ make you overweight. Our BMIs differ depending on our gender, bone mass, and muscle mass and there is no single BMI that is ideal for all people. Another useful metric we could also use, especially women who have naturally broader hips is the Waist to hip ratio. We can calculate this simply by dividing our waist measurement in our narrowest point to our hips measurements at their widest point. WHR = 33/42 = 0.78 So if our waist measures for example 33 inches and our hips 42, our ratio would be 0.78. Like BMI, WHR index also comes with a set of healthy ranges. In women ideally, this ratio should be up to 0.8 for a lower risk of developing heart and circulation problems. In males, this index should ideally fall to below 0.9 as anything higher than that may increase the risk of developing heart problems at a later stage. The third and final way to figure out our ideal weight or mass, is to calculate our Waist to Height Ratio which is by divining our Waist in inches to our Height in inches. Waist to height ratio = Waist in Inches/Height in Inches Waist to height ratio = 32/66 = 0.48 So for example, if Steve is 5.6 inches tall and his waist measures 32 inches his Waist to Height ratio that would be 32/66 inches so 0.48. And although exercise can increase the amount of calories that we burn and help us burn a little more fat the main driver of fat loss is going to be diet. So I want to give you guys the best 3 diet approaches too easily burn fat fast. As you burn fat from your whole body you'll definitely notice a difference around your waist and like I said these diet approaches are very effective for seeing results within a few days. 2 effectively burn fat we can't just concentrate on calories in and calories out. Insulin is a fat storage hormone and it is directly linked too fat loss. If you want to burn fat the fastest way to do it is by controlling and lowering your insulin levels. Insulin is released to control your blood sugar by shuttling glucose into your muscles and your liver to be used for energy. When your insulin levels are hi your body cannot burn fat. In fact It has no need to burn fat because your body can get plenty of energy from the glucose thats in your bloodstream that triggered the insulin to be released to begin with. The worst part is that not only does insulin block fat loss but it also causes the body to store excess glucose as fat. However all hope is not lost you have another hormone known as glucagon that pretty much has the inverse function. After depleting stored glucose from your muscles and from your liver your blood sugar will begin to drop. When your blood sugar drops too low glucagon can actually raise your blood sugar by converting glycerol in your fat cells into glucose for fuel. Glucagon also signals the fat cells to release free fatty acids in a process known as lipolysis. To put it simply glucagon signals the body to release stored fat to be used as fuel. There are many studies that compare the effects of these two hormones insulin & glucagon. But my favorite is one of the simplest where a group of researchers studied the effects of these two hormones on rats. The study was published in the Journal of Comparative & Physiological Psychology In this study half of the rats where injected with insulin & the other half were injected with glucagon. The rats that received the insulin gained body fat & ate more. The rats that received the glucagon lost body fat. Now nobody's going to be injecting you with glucagon but there are ways that you could naturally lower your insulin levels & increase your glucagon levels through diet. And these 3 diets that I'm about to go over do exactly that in the most effective way. As long as blood sugar is available your body will preferentially burn that for fuel over fat. So what is the best way to lower blood sugar in the shortest amount of time? The answer is our first dye method that we're going to go over & that's fasting. There is no better way to lower insulin levels & lower blood sugar levels then not eating at all. Now I'm not advocating for you to starve because that usually leads to a binge which leads to a very high spike in blood sugar & insulin storing any kind of fat that you might have lost right back if not more. But I do highly recommend that you try a couple simple fasting approaches such as intermittent fasting which involves a 16 hour fast followed by an 8 Hour feeding window. A little bit of a more advanced version of fasting would be a 20-hour fast followed by a four hour feeding period this is typically referred to as The Warrior Diet. And even more advanced than that would be the one meal a day diet where you would fast for the entire day & only eat one meal. After that comes your longer-duration fasts where you don't eat anyting for 2 to 7 days. Although I don't recommend these for beginners fasting for longer durations is scientifically proven to be the most effective way to lower blood sugar & insulin levels while simultaneously increasing glucagon levels. Meaning there is no other diet approach out there that will lower your insulin & burn fat quite as much as fasting. And this makes perfect sense because even protein can be converted into glucose & can spike your insulin. But if you eat nothing at all the only thing that your body has to work off of for energy after depleting your liver& your muscles of glycogen is stored energy in the form of fat. Again don't worry if you're not willing to not eat for 7 days

Most skinny guys don't really have that sense of urgency and don't look at being skinny as a problem. More often than not they it's the case of "It would be nice to gain weight" or "I'm fine with the way I am now but I'd like to be able to put on a bit more size." This doesn't generate the necessary motivation to go through the hard process of changing your diet (and stick with it) to gain weight. And if the pain of staying skinny isn't greater than the pain required to go through the process of changing your diet you won't be able to stick with it. Diet and lifestyle adjustments: TIP #1 - Setup Your Calories and Macros To Make It Easier To Eat More As a skinny guy who's generally struggling to eat enough food to gain weight healthy fats are the easiest way to get into a calorie surplus. No matter how adaptive or "fast" your metabolism is at a certain intake of calories your body won't be able to "burn-off" the energy and you'll start gaining weight. Guys who claim they eat 5000-6000 kcal / day and don't gain any weight are either unaware of their true intake or are flat out lying. So the way you setup your macros to make gaining weight easier is to go with a very high fat diet. 1 gram of fat has 9 kcal. The first step of course is to setup the appropriate protein intake which can easily be 1g per lbs of Body-weight if you're skinny. Second step is to give yourself enough carbohydrate which you set as 2 - 3 g / lbs of Body-weight depending on personal preference. And the rest of calories into fat. i.e. Male 150 lbs @ 3000 Kcal/ day broken down into: 150g of protein 280-300g of carbs 130-140g of fat I would generally advise you to avoid or at least minimize heat processed vegetable oils, anything with rapeseed oil, canola oil, hydrogenised or (partially) hardened vegetable fats and artificial transfats. Foods such as peanut butter, almond butter, avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, whole milk, kefir, yoghurt, full fat cheese, fatty fish, generally fattier meats and whole eggs are all amazing sources. My go-to source of healthy fats and calories is dark 80%+ chocolate. If I'm on a "bulk" sometimes I'll eat 2 of these 100g chocolates per day. So when it comes to food you want to avoid low fat products and stick with a high fat diet. TIP #2 - Design Your Environment / LifestyleTo Have Easy Access to Food Healthy snacks are a great choice. Great sources to have around are dry roasted nuts and dried fruits. These are easy to store and to bring with you. You want to make it easier to consume more calories. So things like not drinking water anytime before a meal is recommend so you can eat more. Generally avoid things like intermittent fasting if you need to consume a lot of calories. It doesn't make sense to fast. Eating more frequent meals can help some guys get more food, choose a meal frequency that makes you more hungry and allows for easier consumption of food. Don't forget to bring food with you. Plan how you're gonna get food. This comes down to weekly grocery shopping and always having go-to high calorie sources like nuts and dark chocolate available. TIP #3 - Track Your Food Intake Guys who are naturally skinny greatly overestimate the amount of calories they eat by A LOT. This can be solved with tracking your food intake with free apps such as MyFitnessPal. You don't need to track 24/7 365 days of the year but it is recommended to track for a few weeks to see exactly how much food and calories you need to start gaining weight. If you don't do this you're most likely going to waste your time and you're not going to be consistent. If you remove the guess work you'll get results much faster. So today I want to go over the 10 most effective exercises for weight loss that you could do right in your own living room. The exercises that i go over today require no equipment and the reason why theyre more effective than others is because they're going to work mulriple joints and muscle groups at the same time and theyre gonna get your heart rate and your breathing rate up way up. You can combine all of these exercises into one workout simply by using on and off intervals. The training style that I recommend for this type of workout is short intervals. 20 seconds on and then ten seconds off then repeat each exercise for 8 rounds before taking a minute break and moving on to the next. Training in a high intensity way like this will allow you to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time. Before I jump into the first one I do have to State the obvious and that's the fact that if you want to lose weight or burn fat you do have to make sure that you're keeping it clean in the kitchen as well. These arent magical exercises that was somehow counterbalance eating junk everyday. But by doing this work out a couple times a week and watching what you eat I'm sure that anyone can lose weight and body fat with these exercises. Let's start with number 1. its a combination of jumping jacks and burpees. Burpees are by far one of the most effective exercises to get your heart rate up while also working your upper and your lower body. Most people know how to do a jumping jack start standing straight up then jump your feet out and raise your arms over your head and you're going to do that 5 times. Then you would perform the burpee by bending your back and lowering yourself down to the ground. As you place your hands on the floor. Next you're going to jump your feet out and get into a push-up position lower yourself down for the push-up then hop your feet back in and jump up. If this is too advanced for you you can walk your feet out one foot at a time instead of hoping. Regardless of whether you're a beginner or advanced the sequence is five jumping jacks one Burpee 5 jumping jacks one Burpee back and forth. Next we have the mountain climber sit through drill. For this one you're going to perform 4 mountain climbers for every two sit throughs. Most people know how to do mountain climbers. These are the same mountain climbers that you've probably done in gym class. Every time that you hop one of your knees up to your chest it counts as one. So you shuffle your feet 4 times and then you do 2 sit throughs. The sit through is done by starting in a pushup postion then lifting one hand off the ground and your opposite leg off the ground. Bring your hand up to your head and kick your opposite leg through as you turn your hips and your body enough for your butt to barely tap the ground. Then return back to the pushup and repeat for the other side. Once you're done with those 2 sit throughs go right back to mountain climbers. Next is the plyo step up. This one is not only great for your footwork, balance, and coordination, but it's also a great exercise to burn a bunch of calories. All you need is a step below knee level. You can use a low chair or even the bottom stair ledge in your house. Start with one foot on the platform, put your weight on that foot & jump up as you switch your feet. Do this back & forth repeating for the full time. I know it doesn't look like much, but like I said you will be breathing heavy after doing this one for 20 seconds straight & especially after eight rounds. If you have knee problems & can't jump up & down you can just alternate stepping up side to side. Moving on to exercise number four the spider man pushup. This one does require a lot of upper body strength so if you're a beginner just stick to regular pushups or you can also do pushups on your knees if regular pushups are too hard. The key with all of these exercises is to perform the exercise in the most intense way that you can & then regress as it gets harder. So you can start by doing a couple reps of the spiderman pushups & then regress to regular pushups.
