Oracle CURRENT_TIMESTAMP Function

02:37
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-date-functions/ The Oracle CURRENT_TIMESTAMP function will display the current date and time in the session time zone. Just like the CURRENT_DATE function, it uses the session time zone, which is where you logged in from. This could be different to the database time zone. The syntax of the CURRENT_TIMESTAMP function is: CURRENT_TIMESTAMP ( [precision] ) The return type of this function is TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE. The precision parameter is optional, and it lets you specify the number of fractional seconds to return. If this is omitted, it uses the default of 6. It’s different to the SYSTIMESTAMP function, because CURRENT_TIMESTAMP returns the session timezone, and SYSTIMESTAMP returns the database time zone. So, if I’m logging in from Melbourne, Australia, and the database is in London, England, then the CURRENT_TIMESTAMP will return a date and time that’s 10 hours ahead of SYSTIMESTAMP, and in a different time zone. It may be on the same day, or it could be a different day, depending on when I run the function. You can perform arithmetic on this function just like any other date value (e.g. CURRENT_TIMESTAMP - 7 for 7 days ago). However, it might be better to use interval data types so you can keep the original data type. For more information about the Oracle CURRENT_TIMESTAMP function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-date-functions/

Oracle TO_DATE Function Explained with Examples

06:14
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-to_date/ The Oracle TO_DATE function is one of the most useful conversion functions in Oracle. It can be a little confusing though. The TO_DATE function is used to convert a character value to a date value. You can use it to convert a string that is in the format of a date, into a date data type. Why would you use this? Converting a character to a date is helpful if you want to insert a date into a column in a table. Being specific about the format (explicit) is better than assuming the conversion will be done for you (implicit). This TO_DATE function only converts to a DATE data type. If you want to convert to the other datetime data types, you’ll have to use other functions such as TO_TIMESTAMP or TO_TIMESTAMP_TZ. The syntax for this function is: TO_DATE(charvalue [, format_mask [, nls_date_language]]) The parameters for this function are: Charvalue: This is the character value that you want to convert to a date. It’s the main input of the function. Format_mask: This is the format that the input value, the charvalue, is in. This is used to help convert your character value into a date, as your character may be in a different format to the default. Nls_date_language: this is used to determine how the output is displayed. For more information about the Oracle TO_DATE function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-to_date/

Oracle FROM_TZ Function

01:45
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-timezone-functions/ The Oracle FROM_TZ function is used to convert a value in a TIMESTAMP data type, and a specific TIME ZONE, to a TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE value. It’s a helpful conversion function if you work with times and time zones a lot. The syntax of the FROM_TZ function is: FROM_TZ ( timestamp_value, timezone_value ) The parameters of this function are: - timestamp_value: the value in a TIMESTAMP format to convert. - timezone_value: this is the timezone value that the timestamp_value will be converted in to. If you want to know what values can be used as a timezone value, you can look in the database view here: SELECT * FROM v$timezone_names; For more information about the Oracle FROM_TZ function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-timezone-functions/

Local Partitioned Index Shares the same boundaries as the table and are in the same number as table partitions they are widely used in DSS and DWH systems. While Global Partitioned Index are predominantly used in OLTP systems

06 How to configure Sub partition using Rang & Hash in oracle

07:01
You can create subpartitions in a composite partitioned table using a subpartition template. A subpartition template simplifies the specification of subpartitions by not requiring that a subpartition descriptor be specified for every partition in the table. Instead, you describe subpartitions only once in a template, then apply that subpartition template to every partition in the table. For interval-* composite partitioned tables, the subpartition template is the only way to define subpartitions for interval partitions. The subpartition template is used whenever a subpartition descriptor is not specified for a partition. If a subpartition descriptor is specified, then it is used instead of the subpartition template for that partition. If no subpartition template is specified, and no subpartition descriptor is supplied for a partition, then a single default subpartition is created. Specifying a Subpartition Template for a *-Hash Partitioned Table In the case of [range | interval | list]-hash partitioned tables, the subpartition template can describe the subpartitions in detail, or it can specify just the number of hash subpartitions. The following example creates a range-hash partitioned table using a subpartition template: CREATE TABLE emp_sub_template (deptno NUMBER, empname VARCHAR(32), grade NUMBER) PARTITION BY RANGE(deptno) SUBPARTITION BY HASH(empname) SUBPARTITION TEMPLATE (SUBPARTITION a TABLESPACE ts1, SUBPARTITION b TABLESPACE ts2, SUBPARTITION c TABLESPACE ts3, SUBPARTITION d TABLESPACE ts4 ) (PARTITION p1 VALUES LESS THAN (1000), PARTITION p2 VALUES LESS THAN (2000), PARTITION p3 VALUES LESS THAN (MAXVALUE) ); This example produces the following table description: Every partition has four subpartitions as described in the subpartition template. Each subpartition has a tablespace specified. It is required that if a tablespace is specified for one subpartition in a subpartition template, then one must be specified for all. The names of the subpartitions, unless you use interval-* subpartitioning, are generated by concatenating the partition name with the subpartition name in the form:

The Fingerboard Oracle

01:08
When I was striving to increase my knowledge of the fingerboard back in the late 70’s I built a prototype of a device which would allow me to see any notated pitch on the fingerboard in all places at a glance. One of the confusing aspects of playing stringed instruments is that notated pitches can show up in more than one place. For example, middle C is found in 5 different places on the guitar! My first prototype was something of a failure in that it didn’t give me enough flexibility. (I wish I had a photo of Oracle I, but I was a poor college student at that time living in a 16 foot Boles Aero trailer.) After the failure of that first device I built a better box. It still isn’t perfect, but it does allow me to visualize any interval combination, chord, scale, or arpeggio in every position and for every key! This device gave me a level of insight that has served me well for many decades. I have discovered so much from just typing in different note combinations, then using the sliders to isolate a particular region. To my knowledge this is the only one in existence. I owe a great deal to this device and much of what I’m sharing on this website can be traced directly back to my time spent with Oracle II.

Using Flashback Table with Flashback Version Query

02:24
Oracle Flashback Technology is a group of Oracle Database features that let you view past states of database objects or to return database objects to a previous state without using point-in-time media recovery. Oracle Flashback Version Query Use this feature to retrieve metadata and historical data for a specific time interval (for example, to view all the rows of a table that ever existed during a given time interval). Metadata for each row version includes start and end time, type of change operation, and identity of the transaction that created the row version. To create an Oracle Flashback Version Query, use the VERSIONS BETWEEN clause of the SELECT statement. Oracle Flashback Table Use this feature to restore a table to its state at a previous point in time. You can restore a table while the database is on line, undoing changes to only the specified table.
