Oracle End to End Metrics

01:28:16
Webinar broadcast by Red Gate on 29 May 2013: www.red-gate.com/oracle-webinars End-to-end metrics bridge the gap between the developer and the DBA, the Developer and Oracle, and the DBA and the application. Most applications today are n-tiers using a connection pool on the application tier, which makes them very hard to trace. With a little bit of collaboration between developers and DBAs, tracing can be turned on very easily for your specific application module, a specific user, IP-address, customer, or any other metric of your choice. End-to-end metrics can also be helpful in your development process, and in the day-to-day monitoring of your application. For our complete archive please go to http://www.red-gate.com/oracle-webinars

Oracle SQL Monitoring - Performance Analysis

01:30:41
SQL Monitoring is the best new feature of Oracle 11g for performance analysts, developers and support teams. Finally there is a tool that provides the most accurate, useful and interesting information when a SQL statement is running for longer than expected in a clear format with no minimal advance configuration requirements: What execution plan is really being used? What row source cardinality calculations are incorrect? What steps in the plan are taking the most time and consuming most resources? In this presentation, Doug Burns will demonstrate the various ways of accessing SQL Monitoring functionality and use example reports to show how the information can be used to analyse both currently running and completed statements. It will also describe and offer solutions to some of the minor quirks you might encounter. How to Gather SQL Resource Consumption Metrics in Oracle

01:20:51
Presented by Karen Morton Tues 8th May 2012 Summary SQL is utilized to return data via our applications to service user requests. Whether it's a single customer lookup or a huge month end summary report, the SQL we write must gather the correct data and return it to the user. Ensuring that the SQL you write can do this in a timely and efficient manner, both now and in the future, requires that you measure and evaluate what resources your query must use. In this webinar, we'll cover several methods for how to collect data that show you precisely how your SQL consumes resources: Using AUTOTRACE Using DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY_CURSOR Using Report SQL Monitor Using ASH (Active Session History) and AWR (Automatic Workload Repository) data You'll learn how to utilize the data to understand the work your SQL is doing and the resources it consumes; identify currently evident performance issues as well as areas that could be problematic in the future; and modify your SQL to use less resources more efficiently while still returning the desired results. A live Q+A session with Karen Morton follows the presentation. For our complete archive, and to sign up for upcoming webinars please go to http://www.red-gate.com/oracle-webinars

Oracle Enterprise Manager: Metric Extensions

19:49
ic extensions provide you with the ability to extend Oracle's monitoring capabilities to monitor conditions specific to your IT environment. This provides you with a comprehensive view of your environment. Furthermore, metric extensions allow you to simplify your IT organization's operational processes by leveraging Enterprise Manager as the single central monitoring tool for your entire datacenter instead of relying on other monitoring tools to provide this supplementary monitoring. See Enterprise manager online documentation for more information: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E73210_01/EMADM/GUID-4FCB90EC-5335-4F92-BFA7-CB1442000353.htm#EMADM10032 ================================= To improve the video quality, click the gear icon and set the Quality to 1080p/720p HD. AuraMonitor enables administrators and managers to monitor and analyze all Oracle Forms system and end-user activity in real-time: allowing them to identify and prevent performance issues or outages before they occur. It is a comprehensive, out-of-the-box, agent-less solution that—unlike other monitoring tools—tracks client-side performance metrics, thereby providing a complete end-to-end system overview. The AuraMonitor agent resides on the end-user machine, collecting and processing data before sending it to any database, log file or external monitoring system where it can be analyzed.

Metrics for the Masses

37:37
Timely information about an applications health and performance is critical. In a clustered environment, knowledge about the overall health and performance of the cluster is more complicated to obtain. Add cloud and this task may become close to impossible to gain insight into the health of the system. Using Apache Geode and Micrometer it will be demonstrated how this can be achieved in a simple manner that can be applied to all types of applications. Oracle Cost Based Optimizer Advanced Session

01:40:21
Presented by Randolf Geist 01 August 2012 Summary Building on the previous Cost-Based Optimizer Basics webinar, in this almost "zero-slide" session we'll explore different aspects of the Cost-Based Optimizer that haven't been covered or only mentioned briefly in the 'basics' session. This is a continuous live demonstration including topics like: Clustering Factor, Histograms, Dynamic Sampling, Virtual Columns, Daft Data Types and more. If you've ever asked yourself why a histogram can be a threat to database performance and why storing data using the correct data type matters regarding Execution Plans then this session is for you. It is recommended, although not required, to watch the recording of the 'basics' webinar first. A live Q+A session with Randolf Geist will follow the presentation. Linux Performance Tools, Brendan Gregg, part 1 of 2

54:29
Tutorial by Brendan Gregg of Netflix for O'Reilly Velocity conference 2015 Santa Clara. Part 1 of 2. Slides: http://www.slideshare.net/brendangregg/velocity-2015-linux-perf-tools or http://velocityconf.com/devops-web-performance-2015/public/schedule/detail/42513 Description: " There are many performance tools nowadays for Linux, but how do they all fit together, and when do we use them? This tutorial explains methodologies for using these tools, and provides a tour of four tool types: observability, benchmarking, tuning, and static tuning. Many tools will be discussed, including top, iostat, tcpdump, sar, perf_events, ftrace, SystemTap, sysdig, and others, as well observability frameworks in the Linux kernel: PMCs, tracepoints, kprobes, and uprobes. This tutorial is updated and extended on an earlier talk that summarizes the Linux performance tool landscape. The value of this tutorial is not just learning that these tools exist and what they do, but hearing when and how they are used by a performance engineer to solve real world problems — important context that is typically not included in the standard documentation."

Identifying Long Running Queries

01:10:08
Tuning the performance of your queries in SQL Server can be a lot of work. However, in order for your systems to receive the full benefits of query tuning, you must tune the queries that need it the most. This session will show you three different methods for determining which of the queries on your system are being called the most frequently, take the longest period of time to run, or are using the most resources. You'll be able to use the information in this session to quickly set up your own metrics gathering processes in order to understand what is happening on your systems and which queries will benefit most from tuning. Grant Fritchey is a SQL Server MVP with over 20 years’ experience in IT including time spent in support and development. Grant has worked with SQL Server since version 6.0 back in 1995. He has developed in VB, VB.Net, C# and Java. Grant has authored books for Apress and Simple-Talk, and joined Red Gate as a Product Evangelist in January 2011.
