Java Tutorial: Reading Properties Files

14:16
Java applications need configuration settings. And often those settings are stored in text files called "properties files". Did you know the JDK provides an easy way for us to read, manipulate, and even store properties files? Reading Properties files is something I find myself doing again and again while writing Java applications. A Properties file is a simple text files whose contents consist of comments that begin with a pound sign, along with name value pairs that contain the data. The JDK provides a class called Properties that allows us to easily read and manipulate these helpful files. In this video, I'll show you how to: * Read a Properties file * Create new Properties on the fly * Write the Properties file to disk As always, the code for this video is available in Github. Links: Github URL: https://github.com/makotogo/ReadPropertiesFile101 Javadoc for Properties: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/api/java/util/Properties.html Check out my blog: http://makotoconsulting.com/blog Follow me on Twitter: @jstevenperry

Spring Boot Properties File and Profiles Tutorial | Externalised Environment Configuration

10:08
Hi, Use Spring Boot to externalise your environment specific runtime configuration. Environment specific configuration is usually stored in properties files, YAML files and command line arguments. In this tutorial i will show you how to specifically configure your application for the environment it is deployed into. Having externalised configuration will allow you to propagate your single generated software artefact through your different environments (E.g. Dev, Test, Production). I first created an application.properties and placed it on the application's CLASSPATH. This is one of four locations Spring Boot will look for the default properties file. Properties configured here will be common for all environments unless explicitly overridden. See Spring Boot Features, 24. Externalized Configuration for properties order. I then created an application-{environment}.properties file for each environment. The {environment} is substituted for the spring profile. This can be set using -Dspring.profiles.active virutal machine argument. This is passed into the application on bootup, so from your deployment YAML file / bash shell script etc. E.g. Set your spring profile per environment: -Dspring.profiles.active=local -Dspring.profiles.active=dev -Dspring.profiles.active=test -Dspring.profiles.active=production This will then loads the common application.properites THEN the environment specific properties file. One of: application-local.properties application-dev.properties application-test.properties application-production.properties Spring will then substitute the properties throughout its configuration of the spring container. Enjoy! How to install java on Windows 7/8 ( 64bit/32bit)

05:05
Direct Link : 1) Java Win 32 bit : http://download.oracle.com/otn-pub/java/jdk/8u60-b27/jdk-8u60-windows-i586.exe 2) Java Win 64 bit : http://download.oracle.com/otn-pub/java/jdk/8u60-b27/jdk-8u60-windows-x64.exe This is a guide for those who receive " 'Java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. " This video works for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. It also is the same for 64bit and 32bit. The download on the Java page applies to both 32Bit and 64Bit. The only difference is when you install it on 64Bit it will install into \Program Files (x86)\Java If you are on Windows XP once you have Right clicked My computer -- Properties you will need to click on the "Advanced" tab to see Environment Variables. If you have the same problem with RSbot, or this error with another Java application this will probably be the fix for it. If you are trying to compile with things suck as RSbot or an RSPS then instead of downloading JRE download JDK from https://java.com/en/download/ And find the install destination from that after installed, and use that as the Variable path. SQL: ACID (Transaction properties)

06:34
In this tutorial, you'll learn what is ACID PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

How to Set Environment Variables in Windows

01:27
Follow this step by step tutorial to learn how to set environment variables from system settings in the windows operating system. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ In this tutorial, you will learn how to set environment variables in windows. Operating systems require environment variables as settings and configurations for several processes. Although these variables are automatically defined or initialized during the installation of the system or specific software, in windows, to set environment variables manually is not a difficult task. That's because windows allows us to manually add, remove or edit environment variables through system settings according to our requirements. Step # 1 -- Opening environment variables In windows, to set environmental variables, you can take two paths. Either we can go to control panel, then access the system security option, and then the system option. Or we can simply right click on My Computer and select its properties. Once we are in the system window, select the advanced system settings from the list on the left side. A new window will pop up. Over here, click on the environment variables button near the bottom of this window and you can now access the Windows environment variables. Step # 2 -- Adding a variable In this window there are two sets of environment variables, one is the "user variables", and the other is the "system variables". Choose the new button in the user variables section to open the "define a new variable" dialog window. Over here, you will be required to define the variable name as anything you wish to set, such as temporary and then define its value as the path to the directory. With that done, let's complete this process by pressing OK. Your new environment variable has been created now. Step # 3 -- Editing and removing a variable To edit an environment variable, click on it, and then click on the edit button to open a dialog window. Here we can edit the name and value of the variable. Likewise to remove an environment variable, simply click on the variable and then click on the delete button. Once all the definitions are complete, close the window and restart your computer to allow the operating system to load these settings on boot. And that's basically all you need to know for how to set environment variables in windows.
New Java - Tutorial 1 - Installing Java Jdk and Setting Java Path

Install Java Jdk and set the environment for the java in windows. Installing Java jdk. In order to install java jdk first we have to download Java so to download java jdk the link is given below : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.html Just accept the license agreement and download the java that is compatible to your Windows 32-bit/64-bit. After the file is downloaded, run the setup and install java in your system After the installation is complete you have to set the environment path of java to run java in your system or else it will not run java programs. so , to set the path you have to go to My Computer's properties Advanced System Setting Environment Variable. Create new user variable variable name = "path" and variable value ="C:\Program Files\Java\jdk.......\bin "your setup location"" click OK and its done now you've installed your java in your system with path set. Runtime Code Generation for the JVM

59:02
Although Java’s strict type system is a great help for avoiding programming errors, it makes it difficult for framework developers to access and extend their users’ unknown type hierarchies. At the same time, the framework users often do not want the framework types to intrude on their application code, a concept known as working with POJOs, plain old Java objects. To overcome this, many of today’s frameworks make use of code generation. This way a framework can create new Java classes at runtime when the user types first become visible to the framework. This session gives you an overview of runtime code generation on the Java platform and introduces Byte Buddy, a novel library that comes with an easy DSL for creating compiled Java classes. Author: Rafael Winterhalter Rafael works as a software engineer in Oslo, Norway. He is a proponent of static typing and a JVM enthusiast with particular interests in code instrumentation, concurrency and functional programming. Rafael blogs about software development, regularly presents at conferences and was pronounced a Java One Rock Star. When coding outside of his work place, he contributes to a wide range of open source projects and often works on Byte Buddy, a library for simple runtime code generation for the Java virtual machine. One of our customers wanted to add a new PostgreSQL database running at AWS RDS to their original Oracle-based system and upgrade the connected Java application to support both database platforms. We delivered a proof of concept by converting one of the largest customer’s database schemas to PostgreSQL in orded to demonstrate how the upgraded system may work. In addition, we updated the application by adding the unified SQL code and changing its architecture to support 2 database platforms. Running Oracle Forms 11g Applications Using Java Web Start Launcher, No Any Web Browser Required

17:31
How to run oracle form in any browser? How to run Oracle Forms Applications without Web Browser? The Java Plugin has been used by Oracle Forms for many years. Browser technology has since evolved beyond the need or desire to continue supporting plugins of any kind. With modern browser vendors working to restrict and reduce plugin support in their products so it's getting increasingly difficult to run Java applets through browsers, which is a problem for Oracle Forms applications. Developers of applications that rely on the Java browser plugin need to consider alternative options such as migrating from Java Applets (which rely on a browser plugin) to the plugin-free Java Web Start technology. This video tutorial describes the steps to deploy Forms applications using Java(TM) Web Start Launcher. You'll learn how to run Oracle Forms Applications with Java Web Start Launcher from the Desktop or the Java Cache Viewer by creating JNLP File. Even though Java plug-in does not work in web browsers after installing Java, Firefox 52 ESR 32-bit release still supports NAPAPI plug-ins. Alternatively we shall download and install Firefox 52 ESR 32-bit release to run Oracle Forms Applications. You'll also learn how to manage and configure Java Security Exception Site List and set the security level within the Java Control Panel to get rid of the following errors or Java exceptions. (You can add the URL of the application to Exception Site List) oracle.forms.engine.Main ExitException: Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system. The following resource is signed with a weak signature algorithm MD5withRSA and is treated as unsigned: http:XXXX:7001/forms/java/frmall.jar This application will run with unrestricted access which may put your computer and personal information at risk. Run this application only if you trust the location and publisher above. Applications Blocked by Java Security. Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running. The Anatomy of Java Vulnerabilities by Steve Poole & Tim Ellison

50:51
Java is everywhere. According to Oracle it’s on 3 billion devices and counting. We also know that Java is one of the most popular vehicles for delivering malware. But that’s just the plugin right? Well maybe not. Java on the server can be just at risk as the client. In this talk we’ll cover all aspects of Java Vulnerabilities. We’ll explain why Java has this dubious reputation, what’s being done to address the issues and what you have to do to reduce your exposure. You’ll learn about Java vulnerabilities in general: how they are reported, managed and fixed as well as learning about the specifics of attack vectors and just what a ‘vulnerability’ actually is. With the continuing increase in cybercrime it’s time you knew how to defend your code. With examples and code this talk will help you become more effective in tacking security issues in Java. Steve Poole is a DevOps practitioner (leading a large team of engineers on cutting edge DevOps exploitation ) and a long time IBM Java developer, leader and evangelist. He’s been working on IBM Java SDKs and JVMs since Java was less than 1. He's also had time to work on other things including representing IBM on various JSRs, being a committer on various open source projects including ones at Apache, Eclipse and OpenJDK. He’s also member of the Adopt OpenJDK group championing community involement in OpenJDK. Steve is a seasoned speaker and regular presenter at JavaOne and other conferences on technical and software engineering topics. Tim Ellison is a senior member of IBM's Runtimes Technology Centre with responsibility for open source engineering projects. Prior to his current position he was part of the original Eclipse development team, and a Vice President of the Apache Software Foundation Harmony Project. He is a member of the JSR376 expert group designing the Java modularity system, and JSR379 defining the Java SE 9 platform. He has spoken at conferences worldwide on topics relating to security. Tim has contributed to the commercial implementation of Smalltalk, IBM VisualAge, Eclipse, and the Java SDK over a long period. He has a broad knowledge of high performance runtimes, open source methodologies, and applying new language technology to difficult problems.

The Diabolical Developer's Guide to Surviving Java 9 and 10, with Martijn Verburg

47:25
Java 10 has come hot on the heels of Java 9 which means double the upgrade fun! Java 9 came with a new modularity system (Jigsaw) which has strict restrictions on the runtime and compile time access for of internal libraries (such as sun.misc.Unsafe), a new REPL (JShell), a change of the default garbage collector to G1, and much more! All of this means that Java 9/10 is the most breaking release since Java 5 introduced generics. In this session, the Diabolical Developer presents a pragmatic guide to migrating your apps to Java 9/10 and how to avoid the common pitfalls. He covers how to still gain access to those restricted internal libraries, how to deal with the performance impact of moving to G1, how to split your app to use both the classpath approach and the new modularization approach, and more. Demo Recording: Split of a Dual-Stack SAP System into Two Separate Stacks

11:53
For more information, please visit: http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-25162 Video only - No sound! In this video, get an overview of the end-to-end dual-stack split procedure transforming a system with both Application Server ABAP and Java into two separate systems performed on a demo system - including split with the setup of a new Java system and the removal of the Java stack from the former dual-stack system. SAP recommends that you move away from optional dual-stack SAP systems where possible and has communicated with which releases of SAP NetWeaver and SAP Business Suite optional dual-stack systems won't be supported any longer. While existing dual-stack systems remain supported in their current release, you can adapt your system set-ups to the recommendation from SAP and prepare future upgrades with the help of the dual-stack split tool.
