Quickstart: Getting Started with Oracle and .NET
New to Oracle and .NET development? This video gives you everything you need to know to get up and running quickly! We walk you through downloading and installing the needed Oracle software and then connecting in Visual Studio and creating a simple C# application. The video starts at the Oracle .NET Developer Technology Center website at http://otn.oracle.com/dotnet We then download the "ODTwithODAC" package, extract it and run the installer. Note that ODAC version 12 works with Oracle Database versions 10.2 or higher. After installing we connect in Server Explorer and learn about the connection dialog features, including the Filters tab which by default filters out additional schemas you may have privileges on. We connect to the database using the easy to use EZ connect format. Finally we create a simple C# application and connect to the database using ODP.NET Managed driver and a EZ Config connect string. Prerequisites: 1) Visual Studio 2012 or 2013 -- any edition except Express Edition. Visual Studio Community Edition is supported. 2) An Oracle Database to connect to. You will need to know the hostname, port number and service name of the database. During the video we install: Oracle Data Provider for .NET Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio Oracle .NET Samples Oracle .NET Documentation

Oracle SQL Tutorial 1 - Intro to Oracle Database
As illustrated in the video, Oracle Database is a program designed to hold lots of information, or data. There are all kinds of different databases and they all have their uses. Some of the most common ones are MySQL, SQL Server, Sybase, and MongoDB. All of these have different uses. The differences will be easier to understand after you learn more about each kind of database. We did not discuss it much in the video, but if you are wondering what “SQL” means in the title, it stands for structured query language. Structured query language is a human readable computer language that is used to tell databases to do things. We will discuss SQL and Oracle SQL Developer more in future videos. Databases are better than spreadsheets because they allow multiple users at one time, different levels of access given to users, recovery options and transactions, and it is more protected from hacking and malicious destruction. Programming languages often have very useful functions or methods that can be used to communicate to a database and therefore they are a naturally good option for the back end of programs. This course will go over all of the major parts of database programming using Oracle SQL. We will be using Oracle 11g, but these videos should still work with other versions, including the most recent 12c. Q and A ~~~~~~ How much does Oracle cost? The full enterprise edition costs thousands. They have other versions for less and they even have a FREE VERSION! This is known as the XE version (eXpress Edition). That is the one we will be using. How long does it take to learn SQL? You can learn all of the basics and be an efficient beginner database developer in only about a month of practice. To become an intermediate it can take anywhere from an additional 3 - 6 months with a only a few hours of studying and practicing each day. How can I learn SQL faster? Take notes and actually mess around with making your own database. Watch these videos until you understand the concepts within them, read articles and books that teach in more depth. This evaluation should reveal the following information:-How many disk drives are available to the Oracle products-How many, if any, dedicated tape drives are available to Oracle products-How much memory is available to the instances of Oracle Database you will run (see your system configuration documentation) Task 2: Install the Oracle Database Software: As the database administrator, you install the Oracle Database server software and any front-end tools and database applications that access the database. In some distributed processing installations, the database is controlled by a central computer (database server) and the database tools and applications are executed on remote computers (clients). In this case, you must also install the Oracle Net components necessary to connect the remote systems to the computer that executes Oracle Database. Task 3: Plan the Database: As the database administrator, you must plan: -The logical storage structure of the database -The overall database design -A backup strategy for the databaseConsider how the logical storage structure of the database will affect: -The performance of the computer running Oracle Database -The performance of the database during data access operations -The efficiency of backup and recovery procedures for the database Task 4: Creating, migrating, and opening the database: After you complete the database design, you can create the database and open it for normal use. You can create a database at installation time, using the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA), or you can supply your own scripts for creating a database. Task 5: Backup the Database : After you create the database structure, perform the backup strategy you planned for the database. Create any additional redo log files, take the first full database backup (online or offline), and schedule future database backups at regular intervals. Backup Strategy May Include: - Entire database (whole) - Portion of the database (partial) Whole database backup: Includes all data files and at least one control file (Remember that all control files in a database are identical.) Partial database backup: May include zero or more tablespaces and zero or more data files; may or may not include a control file. Backup Types (RMAN) - All data blocks within your chosen files (full) - Incremental - Cumulative - Differential Backup Mode May Be: - Offline (consistent, cold) - Online (inconsistent, hot) Offline backups (also known as “cold” or consistent backup): Are taken while the database is not open. They are consistent because, at the time of the backup, the system change number (SCN) in data file headers matches the SCN in the control files. Online backups (also known as “hot” or inconsistent backup): Are taken while the database is open. They are inconsistent because, with the database open, there is no guarantee that the data files are synchronized with the control files. Task 6: Enroll System Users Task 7: Implement the Database Design Task 8: Recovering from database failure Task 9: Monitoring Database Performance Task 10: Download and Install Patches Task 11: Roll Out to Additional Hosts To Get more Tutorial Subscribe The Channel click here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ3ea4zVCfnKBx1_7h8raGQ?sub_confirmation=1 To Get All Post Like The Facebook Page Click here https://www.facebook.com/oracledbsolutions Follow us: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/oracledbsolutions Youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ3ea4zVCfnKBx1_7h8raGQ?view_as=subscriber Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/465557066961548 Contact us: email: [email protected] Skype: oracle26solutions Mob: 01734557080, 01627422780

Oracle Forms to ADF Migration - Automated Tools
Arkin Software offers complete migration solution to retire Oracle Forms based applications. It is a tools based migration framework- comprising of a set of automated tools; migration methodology; and experienced consultants that facilitate factory-like precision. There are three Converter tools. (a) GUI converter converts legacy GUI into web-structure, RIA technologies or thin-client GUI, with similar look & feel. (b) Code converter converts business logic of the legacy code into equivalent java. (c) DAO converter converts SQL calls into a chosen persistent framework like SPRING JDBC or JDBC. Besides these, there are two extremely important tools. (d) Analyzer: It is this tool that helps us even if there is limited or non-existent documentation and application knowledge. This tool dives through legacy code, builds metrics and relationships to help our team to size and understand the legacy complexity and accurately estimate the migration effort. (e) Traceability Generator: It maps legacy code to converted java code in a spreadsheet format. This traceability matrix serves two purposes: One is to ensure that no legacy code is missed out during conversion; and the other is to facilitate client’s internal teams to catch up with migrated Java code. Arkin Software’s unique approach to migration is architecture-centric. That means, we start with the target architecture and migrate the legacy to that target. Never one-to-one migration. Because, migrated applications must live in production for another 20-25 years, which is possible only if they are built on right architecture. Nobody likes applications that may look like Java, but stink like legacy. Arkin Software offers tools based approach to convert 2-tier client/server applications to 3-tier or multi-tier Java based web architecture. The legacy client/server is a 2-tier application. Business logic and data access is partly coded on the UI side, and partly in the form of stored procedures running on database server. During migration, the code is segregated into different layers like - UI, Business logic, Communication, and DAO layers. The database system can remain the same, or that can also be migrated to a different one. If you prefer to have similar GUI after migration, it is possible, as it minimizes end-user re-training. The view then renders the data. Model can be entities or business objects. In part 7, we have built Employee entity. public class Employee { public int EmployeeId { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Gender { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } } In this video, we will discuss, retrieving data from a database table tblEmployee using entity framework. In a later video, we will discuss using business objects as our model. Step 1: Install entity framework, if you don't have it installed already on your computer. At the time of this recording the latest version is Using nuget package manager, is the easiest way to install. A reference to EntityFramework.dll is automatically added. Open visual studio - Tools - Library Package Manager - Manage NuGet Packages for Solution Step 2: Add EmployeeContext.cs class file to the Models folder. Add the following "using" declaration. using System.Data.Entity; Copy & paste the following code in EmployeeContext.cs public class EmployeeContext : DbContext { // Replace square brackets, with angular brackets public DbSet[Employee] Employees {get; set;} } EmployeeContext class derives from DbContext class, and is responsible for establishing a connection to the database. So the next step, is to include connection string in web.config file. Step 3: Add a connection string, to the web.config file, in the root directory. Step 4: Map "Employee" model class to the database table, tblEmployee using "Table" attribute as shown below. [Table("tblEmployee")] public class Employee { public int EmployeeId { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Gender { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } } Note: "Table" attribute is present in "System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.Schema" namespace. Step 5: Make the changes to "Details()" action method in "EmployeeController" as shown below. public ActionResult Details(int id) { EmployeeContext employeeContext = new EmployeeContext(); Employee employee = employeeContext.Employees.Single(x =] x.EmployeeId == id); return View(employee); } Step 6: Finally, copy and paste the following code in Application_Start() function, in Global.asax file. Database class is present "in System.Data.Entity" namespace. Existing databases do not need, database initializer so it can be turned off. Database.SetInitializer[MVCDemo.Models.EmployeeContext](null); That's it, run the application and notice that the relevant employee details are displayed as expected.
