Oracle 11g Enterprise Manager and LogMiner interface

04:42
The most important use of LogMiner may be to find out "who" did "what." Like, If you don't have auditing enabled for performance reasons, or just haven't kept the audit records, all you have to do is to search for the clues in the LogMiner interface by mining the redo logs—online as well as archived ones. Starting from Oracle Database 11g, it is now possible to access LogMiner from EM. Such feature makes LogMiner extremely powerful tool. Of course, DBMS_LOGMINER package is there as before.

RMAN: How to perform a SCN based incomplete recovery

14:48
When you don't know the date and time to which you want to recover the database, SCN-based incomplete recovery could be taken into consideration especially if you are able to retrieve a particular SCN. In this scenario I will perform a SCN-based incomplete recovery after I have used the Oracle LogMiner utility to retrieve a useful SCN where to stop my recovery process. A complete description could be found here: http://dbaworkshop.blogspot.it/2013/05/How-to-perform-a-SCN-based-incomplete-recovery.html

Oracle 12c New Feature Spotlight Synchronous Refresh for Materialized Views

54:18
Materialized views can perform a number of roles, such as improving query performance or providing replicated data. Prior to Oracle 12c, materialized views used traditional refresh methods where changes were applied to the base tables and then the materialized views were refreshed separately with one of several methods. Synchronous refresh is a new approach in Oracle 12c R1 for maintaining tables and materialized views where tables and materialized views are refreshed at the same time. This webinar will discuss the benefits of the synchronous refresh method along with how to implement it.

Oracle Cost Based Optimizer Advanced Session

01:40:21
Presented by Randolf Geist 01 August 2012 Summary Building on the previous Cost-Based Optimizer Basics webinar, in this almost "zero-slide" session we'll explore different aspects of the Cost-Based Optimizer that haven't been covered or only mentioned briefly in the 'basics' session. This is a continuous live demonstration including topics like: Clustering Factor, Histograms, Dynamic Sampling, Virtual Columns, Daft Data Types and more. If you've ever asked yourself why a histogram can be a threat to database performance and why storing data using the correct data type matters regarding Execution Plans then this session is for you. It is recommended, although not required, to watch the recording of the 'basics' webinar first. A live Q+A session with Randolf Geist will follow the presentation.
