Speaking at the company’s first Europe OLED Day symposium in Munich, Sang-Deog Yeo, President and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of LG Display said “Europe offers the optimal conditions for OLED expansion, given that it has a high acceptance rate of new technologies and a high premium market portion in all industries. LG Display is committed to maximizing the expansion of the global large screen OLED market within the next two years.” Attendees were given a rare look at LG Display’s OLED TV strategy in Europe as well as the world and future plans and applications for OLED technology. Major European OLED TV manufacturers such as Loewe, Bang & Olufsen, Philips, Grundig, Metz, Panasonic, Toshiba and LG Electronics participated, along with representatives of industry players such as the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA), market research firm GfK and Red Dot, which has on numerous occasions named LG Electronics’ OLED TVs winners of its coveted Red Dot Design Awards. Compared to other regions, the European TV market has seen a high rate of adoption and expansion of new technologies: Premium UHD, HDR and WCG TVs account for a significant 76% of the total European TV market, according to the recent report by GfK. LG Display ushered in the OLED era by launching the world's first OLED TV in cooperation with LG Electronics in 2013. The company saw OLED as a game changer for the future display industry as well as the future TV market. Since then, the number of television manufacturers adopting OLED panels has increased steadily with 13 TV brands showcasing OLED products at the most recent IFA trade show in Berlin. According to GfK, OLED’s position in the global TV market has increased dramatically, accounting for 74% of the 55-inch and over $2,000 premium category and 61% of the 65-inch and over $3,000 category, with OLED likely having overtaken LCD in the premium segment. “The proportion of customers adopting OLEDs worldwide and the number of OLED products will increase more rapidly in the future,” said Sang-Hoon Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of TV Sales and Marketing Group at LG Display. “Manufacturers adopting OLED will benefit in both brand awareness and sales boost thanks to the halo effect of OLEDs which will ultimately lead to OLED-centric TV companies leading the market.” OLED TV delivers the Holy Grail of visuals: perfect black, vivid color reproduction and high contrast ratios. This makes it the ideal fit for HDR. OLED also offers wide viewing angles, making it perfect for public places like waiting rooms and bars. as a result of these factors, OLED TVs have consistently won top marks and rankings in quality and performance evaluations conducted in the UK, Germany, France, North America and elsewhere. In design, OLED offers infinite possibilities as it is transparent, rollable, and foldable. Thanks to its structural characteristics – it requires no backlight and liquid crystal – it can also be super slim. LG Display launched various new products this year such as Wallpaper OLED TVs which can be easily attached to walls, Crystal Sound OLED (CSO), dual-sided displays and Vertical Tiling OLED (VTO), a pillar-like structure created by connecting six OLED panels. The Munich symposium showcased LG Display’s current and future OLED products such as 65- and 77-inch UHD Wallpaper OLED displays, 55- and 65-inch UHD Crystal Sound OLED (CSO), 65-inch UHD Concave CSO as well as cutting-edge next-gen panels such as 18.1-inch rollable OLED and 12.3-inch plastic OLED for automobiles. What’s more, OLED is easier on human eyes than LCD, even at high level of luminance, resulting in lower eye fatigue than LCD displays. According to research conducted by Dr. James Sheedy of Pacific University, LCD needs to maximize luminance to achieve sharp image quality but OLED can achieve the best picture quality with relatively low luminance thanks to their ability to deliver perfect blacks. Furthermore, OLED is a human-friendly technology as high luminance normally results in eye fatigue but OLED is less stressful to the eye than LCD thanks to its lesser emission of blue light. “LG Display has established a stable system in terms of production and quality and will expand OLED panel production from 1.7 million units in 2017 to 2.5 million units in 2018,” said LG Display’s Lee. “With preparations for a strong OLED TV surge in place, we will work closely with our European partners to aggressively push the OLED message.”

Displayed content is created, scheduled and managed by Focal Media using Signagelive’s cloud based CMS. MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital had a home court advantage at the 2012 NCAA® Men's Final Four® April 1 in New Orleans, thanks to LG Electronics USA being an Official Corporate Partner of the NCAA. LG's Home Court Challenge, at the NCAA's Bracket Town®, celebrated the spirit of competition between two college rivals while raising awareness of the need for pediatric cancer research funding. Patients and their families relived college basketball history, cheering former NCAA basketball all-stars Bobby Hurley from Duke University and Travis Ford from the University of Kentucky. Hurley and Ford competed in a variety of domestic challenges using LG consumer electronics on a basketball-court-turned-model home. The two last faced off in 1992 when Duke played Kentucky in what has been called the greatest basketball game in NCAA history. LG senior vice president of marketing James Fishler presented $15,000 to support MD Anderson's pediatric cancer research. "LG recognizes MD Anderson's leadership in pediatric cancer research," says Fishler. "We've supported cancer research for years globally and wanted to bring that support to such an important initiative here in the United States." A matching $15,000 gift from The V Foundation, founded by legendary NCAA basketball coach Jim Valvano to support cancer research, resulted in a combined donation total of $30,000. "We're truly honored to partner with LG and match its generous donation to support MD Anderson's research," says Nick Valvano, chief executive officer of The V Foundation. At center court to thank LG and The V Foundation was Duke University alumna Eugenie Kleinerman, M.D., head of MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital. "We use philanthropic funds, such as the ones we received from LG and The V Foundation, to support the infrastructure we need to do clinical trials and develop new drugs for our patients," says Kleinerman. LG also donated a variety of consumer products including smart phones and household appliances to the Children's Cancer Hospital. Fourteen-year-old Jeffrey Bodin, a native of Mandeville, La., was proud to represent his fellow Children's Cancer Hospital patients at the Bracket Town presentation. "It's really nice," says Bodin, "because it will help a lot of kids when they're going through a hard time in their lives." NCAA, Final Four and Bracket Town are registered trademarks of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Bridging Culture Worldwide's executive-level commentaries share a first hand insight into Korean-facing global business. BCW's mid-year 2010 commentary provides a frank update into recent developments and trends. The report then shares some timely recommendations. We also encourage readers to respond with questions and queries. The Economy Over the past three reports I've found it difficult not to discuss economic issues. So too, this commentary begins with the economy. Most recently fresh worries center on Europe's debt and fear of a Double Dip recession. For Korean global companies like Samsung, Hyundai-Kia, and LG European concern is warranted. Over the past few years, they've all seen huge increased market share across this region. Moreover, over the past several years the firms have made huge investments in new production facilities, logistics centers, and sales organizations. More upbeat, President Obama announced his plan to submit the long stalled KORUS FTA to Congress in early 2011. Concerns still surface over the imbalance in auto sales. Regardless, I feel both nations will benefit from the agreement. Design Mania Surveying Korean media, it quickly became apparent that Design is a popular topic. Trendy fashion, art, furniture, architecture, and product design draws lots attention. Many see Korea as on the cutting edge of design savvy. Top firms like Samsung, LG, and Hyundai-Kia all are now seen as design driven companies. Interestingly, a decade ago these firms had dedicated themselves to quality. That goal achieved, a new generation of leadership is embracing stylish design that the consumer not only wants, but also creatively leads them to emotionally bond with the product. In fact, Korea's top companies want global consumers with strong up-market brand loyalty. Awareness, But The First Step Each year I see better awareness in the importance of cross-cultural understanding—both by Korean and non-Korea leadership. That said, awareness is but the first step. At times, I feel that most leadership recognizes the importance of cross-culturalism, but stop short of actually taking action. Beyond awareness, teams and leadership need practical skills and situational coaching--results and better communications will soon follow. My Mid-year Recommendations #1 In all dealings, be upbeat and forward thinking—maintain a "glass is half-full vs. half-empty" attitude. Show passion and enthusiasm. #2 Korean leadership looks to the global teams and its top partners for ideas. Find innovative ways to overcome the challenges. Provide "out of the box" thinking to your Korean partners and their teams. When possible, showcase new technology to overcome challenges. That said, remember that Korea is a high-risk avoidance culture—so frame your ideas in a way that minimizes risk and promotes ROI. #3 Provide ongoing workshop and quarterly seminars to Korea facing teams and management. As needed, support key management with coaching. Awareness is but the first step. To conclude Understand the huge stress loads within Korean based firms—pressures to endure and leapfrog ahead of the global competition. Be mindful and culturally sensitive. The Samsung Folder2 is one of the last of a dying breed of phones... The Flip Phone. Of course the Folder2 is far more advanced than those old school flip phones like the Motorola Razer etc. The Folder2 runs Android, features dual cameras and a touch screen. The Folder2 is unlikely to replace your iPhone X, iPhone 8 or Galaxy S8 but for the right person it just might be what they're looking for. I have to admit, there's something satisfying about flipping a phone and having a good old fashioned phone call. The Folder2 retails for around $350 (converted price) and is available in parts of Asia including South Korea. The camera is probably the most disappointing part of this device as it's no where near the expected quality of a Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Note 8, iPhone 8 or iPhone X. That said, it's only $350 so it's tough to compare to Apple's and Samsung's flagship smartphones. I'm thinking the the Folder2 could be popular amongst the older generation, those looking to avoid devices that are fully touch navigated like the Galaxy S8 or iPhone X.
