Sea Fever by John Masefield - Poetry Reading

01:11
Sea Fever - A poem by John Masefield. I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by, And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking, And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking. I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied; And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying, And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying. I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life, To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife; And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover, And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over. About The Poem - Salt-Water Poems and Ballads includes "Sea-Fever" and "Cargoes", two of Masefield's best known poems. "Sea-Fever" first appeared in Salt-Water Ballads -- Masefield's first volume of poetry published in 1902 in London by Grant Richards. In The Collected Poems of John Masefield the opening line was changed to the text now more commonly anthologised: "I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky". The first lines of the second and third stanzas retained the form "I must down to the seas again. "Sea-Fever" has been set to music by many composers, the most famous version is by John Ireland. About The Poet - John Edward Masefield (1878 -- 1967) was an English poet and writer, and Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom from 1930 until his death in 1967. He was born in Herefordshire, England. Many of Masefield's short poems were set as art songs by British composers of the time. He was the son of Thomas Arnold, the famed headmaster of Rugby School, and brother to both Tom Arnold, literary professor, and William Delafield Arnold, novelist and colonial administrator. Matthew Arnold has been characterized as a sage writer, a type of writer who chastises and instructs the reader on contemporary social issues.[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Arnold "Dover Beach" is a short lyric poem by the English poet Matthew Arnold.[1] It was first published in 1867 in the collection New Poems, but surviving notes indicate its composition may have begun as early as 1849. The most likely date is 1851.[2] The title, locale and subject of the poem's descriptive opening lines is the shore of the English ferry port of Dover, Kent, facing Calais, France, at the Strait of Dover, the narrowest part (21 miles) of the English Channel, where Arnold honeymooned in 1851.[2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dover_Beach video created and copyright to Robert Nichol 2013

Keats - Walking on ice [lyrics]

03:31
Keats. Walking on ice. Track 4 from "Keats" album (1984). Lyrics below: AOR & Melodic Rock Blog: http://goo.gl/Bvz6v9 Subscribe for new AOR & Melodic rock videos: http://goo.gl/F83ggx I'm at one with the ocean. I'm at one with the sea And I can drown in my vision, There's no one looking at me. Walking on ice, is it mind over matter? Walking on ice, doesn't matter to me. Walking on ice, someone give me the answer! Walking on ice, take the breath out of me! Will I be following strangers? Will they be following me? Always looking for the answer, They take the breath out of me! Walking on ice, who can talk to the stranger? Walking on ice, who would listen to me? Walking on ice, someone give me the answer! Walking on ice, take the breath out of me! Will I be following strangers? Will they be following me? Always looking for the answer, They take the breath out of me! Walking on ice, is it mind over matter? Walking on ice, does it matter to me? Walking on ice, someone give me the answer! Walking on ice, take the breath out of me! Walking on ice, who can talk to the stranger? Walking on ice, who would listen to me? Walking on ice, someone give me the answer! Walking on ice, take the breath out of me! Walking on ice. (I'm walking on ice...) Walking on ice. (...saving all my love for life). Walking on ice. (I'm walking on ice, who would listen to me?). Walking on ice. Walking on ice.

Keats - Avalanche [lyrics]

04:06
Keats. Avalanche. Track 7 from "Keats" album (1984). Lyrics below: AOR & Melodic Rock Blog: http://goo.gl/Bvz6v9 Subscribe for new AOR & Melodic rock videos: http://goo.gl/F83ggx You don't know what you've got Till it rolls away. You don't know what it means To throw it all away. So easy to forget The reasons that we came. Today's not just another day. So you've been hurt by love!? Don't think that's where it ends, We've all been hurt before By lovers and by friends. So easy to forget, So hard to break away. Today's not just another day. Here comes the avalanche, It won't stay at your command. So make your stand! Here comes the avalanche, It won't stay at your command. So let it all come down And tumble to the sea . Don't hide your heart away, It's longing to be free. You're riding on your own, So take a look around . Someday, you'll see what you have found. Here comes the avalanche, It won't stay at your command. So make your stand! Here comes the avalanche, It won't stay at your command. We've all been hurt by love before And we'll be hurt by love some more. We've all been hurt by love! Here comes the avalanche. It won't stay at your command, So make your stand. Here comes the avalanche. It won't stay at your command.

Episode 00018 - Pirates Poetry Corner and General Thinking Spot - Keats On the Sea

06:16
In which Cap'm Andy reads an' provides spontaneous piratical interprematationings on a work of John Keats entitled "On the Sea." ...an' opines upon th' clutter an' noise in modern life. ...an' rants a wee bit while discoursin' upon th' cheapenin' of music. ..an' tries t' record an episode o' the Pirates Poetry Corner an' General Thinkin' Spot wi'out makin' a reference t' rum, dontchaknow. "Tried" - albeit unsuccessfuly, but th' attempt were made... Methinks the poem worthy o' a full printin' here: On the Sea -- John Keats It keeps eternal whisperings around Desolate shors, and with its mighty swell Gluts twice-ten-thousand caverns, till the spell Of Hecate leaves them their old shadowy sound. Often 'tis in such gentle temper found That scarcely will the very smallest shell Be moved for days from whence it sometime fell When last the winds of heaven were unbound. O ye! whose ears are dinned with uproar rude Or fed too much with cloying melody - Sit ye near some old cavern's mouth, and brood Until ye start, as if the sea nymphs quired! Music: "Pirates One and All" from "Tall Ships and Cutlasses - a Musical Adventure" by Andrew J. Shelden, © 2005 Andrew J. Shelden. Them what's interested in puttin' on this exciting musical stage play, please feel free to contact Cap'm Andy. Please note: Cap'm Andy is a pretend pirate. He neither commits nor condones or recommends felonious behavior, such as one might attribute to actual pirates.

Listen to this audiobook in full for free with a 30-day trial: https://www.audiobooks.com/bookforfree/297502 The Sea An Element In Verse. Who does not remember the immortal lines from childhood 'Break Break Break On Thy Cold Grey Stones'. The seas and oceans have a mystical power over us; from a playful day at the beach to the hysterical waves of the storm, this always changing element evokes both beauty and fear. Its great mass, its shimmering beauty, its raging howl and all in colours from blue to grey to green and crystal clear. In these collections of verse our poets including Tennyson, Swinburne, Keats and Shelley and many others explore the relationship between ourselves and the great mystical waters. Among our readers are Gideon Wagner and Ghizela Rowe. Contact: [email protected]

This Living Hand John Keats Audiobook

00:51
This Living Hand John Keats Audiobook John Keats (/ˈkiːts/; 31 October 1795 – 23 February 1821) was an English Romantic poet. He was one of the main figures of the second generation of Romantic poets along with Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley despite his work having been in publication for only four years before his death.[1] Although his poems were not generally well received by critics during his life, his reputation grew after his death, so that by the end of the 19th century, he had become one of the most beloved of all English poets. He had a significant influence on a diverse range of poets and writers. Jorge Luis Borges stated that his first encounter with Keats was the most significant literary experience of his life Tags : john keats poems john keats biography john keats quotes john keats poetry endymion john keats john keats odes john keats death john keats lamia to autumn john keats john keats bright star john keats poet bright star john keats john keats ode to a nightingale john keats movie john keats ode on a grecian urn john keats bio to autumn by john keats ode on a grecian urn by john keats poems by john keats john keats to autumn john keats sonnets john keats sparknotes poem by john keats john keating poems of john keats john keats autumn john keats poem john keats la belle dame sans merci bright star by john keats ode to a nightingale by john keats john keates john keats love poems to autumn john keats analysis john keats famous poems john keats quote to sleep john keats john keats poemas biography of john keats a kumquat for john keats john keats endymion john keats wiki bright star john keats analysis john keats and fanny brawne john keats fanny brawne john keats books john keats on the sonnet ode to autumn by john keats john keats themes john keats ode to autumn john keats nightingale john keats letters john keats timeline john keats bright star analysis a thing of beauty john keats ode to a nightingale john keats poet john keats la belle dame sans merci by john keats john keats isabella john keats butterfly john keats gedichte john keats love letters john keats negative capability john keats on the sea john keats family la belle dame sans merci john keats john keats short poems poetry of john keats john keats to autumn analysis lamia john keats john keats love quotes john keats a thing of beauty about john keats john keats background john keats works a thing of beauty by john keats ode to autumn john keats john keats religion poetryfoundation.org john keats john keats life john keats ode to a grecian urn john keats romantic poems works of john keats poems about love john keats as a romantic poet john keats ode to a nightingale analysis john keats letters to fanny brawne ode on a grecian urn john keats john keats ode on a grecian urn analysis poesie john keats a thing of beauty john keats summary

Mermaids by Horace Keats

02:48
"Mermaids" by Horace Keats From the CD "A Poet's Composer" available from Wirripang. www.AustralianComposers.com.au Soprano: Jane Parkin Pianist: Clemens Leske On beaches walled about with palms Where suns of the equator shine, In sleep immeasurably calm And than the green seas more deep, Mermaids recline. Storms do not touch their refuges. Men never see them. The pale waves unbidden keep their cadences mute, And the sea swell is hidden in the sea caves. I came upon one sleeping fair, Her silver scales shone in the sun, A green sheen was on her hair I looked again where she had been, But she had gone.

On first looking into Chapman’s Homer John Keats Audiobook

01:01
On first looking into Chapman’s Homer John Keats Audiobook John Keats (/ˈkiːts/; 31 October 1795 – 23 February 1821) was an English Romantic poet. Jorge Luis Borges stated that his first encounter with Keats was the most significant literary experience of his life. Riders to the Sea (1935) Re-Mastered

40:39
Riders to the Sea (1935) Re-Mastered Re-mastered and re-released to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the film’s release and the 120th anniversary of the birth of the film’s director on 12th February 1895, Belfast born, Gallipoli veteran Brian Desmond Hurst. In this story of Western Ireland, the most famous work of Ireland’s greatest dramatist JOHN MILLINGTON SYNGE is brought to the screen by Ulster’s greatest film director BRIAN DESMOND HURST. It tells of a deeply religious people who speak English with all the poetry and strange turn of phrase f their Irish mother tongue. The women still keep the custom of ‘keening’ lamenting their dead. When the story opens, Maurya (Sara Allgood), the mother, has lost to the sea her father, husband and two sons. Now only two sons are left for her, Michael (Denis Johnston credits note as Denis Johnstone) and Bartley (Kevin Guthrie). The appearance of Synge’s bereaved fiancée Maire O’Neill as ‘first woman’ is most poignant (born as Mary Allgood and known as Molly and appearing alongside her sister Sara. Note the film credits show her as Maire O’Neill). Actor and film critic Patrick Kirwan plays the Donegal Priest and a host of Abbey players provide much of the cast. Gracie Fields helped Hurst finance the film and artist John Patrick Flanagan co-produced the film and provided the art direction. Location shots were at Renvyle, Connemara, Co Galway, Ireland.

Ode On Melancholy - John Keats

02:29
Melancholy .. such a beautiful word .. such a deep sweet feeling - echoes of the depth of one's past experience ... so necessary ... life would be one dimensional without it... I am building up my repertoire of reading on you tube and in the doing I have re-inforced what I know well and what is in fact common knowledge....... One of the elements of all classics is that in the reading/viewing hearing and re-visiting of them one constantly discovers nuances that one has was not aware of before ... so I certainly always feel uplifted no matter how often before I been there. With Poetry - it is often such a condensed medium that it is difficult on 1st reading to even understand .... but do persist it only gets better and better :)

An Evening with Robert Pinsky - Point Loma Writer’s Symposium by the Sea 2017

52:37
(Visit: http://www.uctv.tv) Former Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky describes himself as a "composer" who considers poetry to be first and foremost a vocal art, and his work seeks to blur the distinctions between language and music by emphasizing the rhythms and innate physicality of recited verse in a jazz context. In this performance for the 22nd Writer's Symposium by the Sea at Point Loma Nazarene University, Pinsky's reading is accompanied by a talented trio of PLNU students. The music - a blend of rehearsed and improvised - employs a variety of jazz styles, sometimes sympathetic and sometimes in playful counterpoint, but always responsive to the poet's distinctive voice. Series: "Writer's Symposium By The Sea" [4/2017] [Humanities] [Arts and Music] [Show ID: 30820]
