Greg Wilson - Credit To The Edit Vol.2 (Tirk - 2009) This was originally issued back in 2007, and went on to be one of the biggest tracks of the year for me. Although it was credited as ‘Greg Wilson Edit’, going by the definition I gave in the sleevenotes it was very much a ‘version’, as I worked from the individual stems in putting it together. I centred things around the infectious guitar riff that put me in mind of Chic and, as they didn’t quite hit the spot for me, decided not to use any of the vocal. I also built in what we used to call a ‘DJ trap’ back when I started out – this occurs when, around two thirds of the way through, the track appears to abruptly end…….before kicking back in two bars later, just as the people who aren’t familiar with it are thinking the DJ totally has messed up, whilst, at the same time, the DJ, having forgotten all about the drop out, goes into sheer panic having not got around to cuing up another record. All good fun! After it was finished there was a concern that the label, All Out War, might be beaten to the punch by Columbia Records, who had signed up the vocalist, Ali Love, and recorded their own version, but all was sorted out in the end and both singles were released in 07. A London based project led by Marcus J Knight and Eon, 1gnition suffered a devastating blow last June when Eon (Ian Loveday) sadly died, following complications with pneumonia – he was 54 years old. Starting out as a producer during the Rave era, Eon recorded under a number of aliases (Ian B, Ian Beta, Eon, Minimal Man and Rio Rhythm Band amongst them). He also deejayed at some key London clubs of the 80’s, including the Mud Club, Shoom, Pyramid and Clink Street, before becoming resident for Planet Love at Brixton Fridge. A website has been set up in his memory: www.ianloveday.com Written and Produced by Marcus J Knight and Eon Published by Copyright Control Love Is War Records 2007 Licensed courtesy of Love Is War Music http://gregwilson.co.uk

Four years on and Greg Wilson finally finds time to complete this long-overdue sequel to his scene defining 2005 compilation. Whilst Credit To The Edit Volume 1, bar a couple of exceptions, focused solely on tracks originally released in the 70's and 80's, Volume 2 brings things right up to date, with two thirds of the album made up of recordings from recent years, all of which have done the business for Greg in today’s clubs. Volume 1 connected the past to the present, Volume 2 provides a perfect illustration of how the present is being shaped by the past, with artists from both sides of the Atlantic producing great new tracks that take their inspiration from the type of music highlighted in the first volume, neatly serving to bring the project full circle in the process. The current underground "Disco" scene, within which the re-edit plays a central role, is no longer purely the domain of an older audience who've delved back into what came before, having grown tired of the existing 4/4 formula that has dominated since the Rave explosion of the late 80's. Nowadays it's increasingly becoming the dance music of choice for a vibrant younger crowd who weren't born when many of the records played were originally released. (In Gregs own words , taken from the sleevenotes from C2TE2 ) "When it comes to this scene that previously had no name, the original 70's Disco sound is but one of the ingredients that goes into the musical melting pot, for it's a far wider spectrum the DJ's are choosing their tunes from, taking in a whole span of styles including Boogie, Funk, Balearic, Cosmic, Electro-Funk, Italo, Hip Hop and other groove-based delicacies (House also features as part of the overall soundscape - as it was originally played during the mid-80's, in contrast to the 'all night long' monopoly that followed)." An so Greg takes his (now digital!) scalpel to everything from Roxy’s timeless "Love is the Drug", adding two minutes of floor friendly funk to the original 7" version, to last year’s instant classic "Don’t Turn It Off" from San Frans’ 40 Thieves. "Voodoo Ray" get’s stretched into a 9 minute hypno edit, 1gnition’s 2008 favourite "Secret Sunday Lover" becomes a rump shaking instrumental, and Escorts’ "Starlight" gets stripped back to a groove and a sweet vocal hook. Sugardaddy’s Levan influenced "Love Honey" , Nick Chacona / Anthony Mansfield’s "Oh Snap", ‘One Life Time To Live’ by Gary Davis, and Crazy P’s "Lady T" complete the contemporary roster, and anyone familiar with Gregs’ sets will have come across his his dynamic and respectful re- jigs of Klein and MBO’s icononic "Dirty Talk" and OMD’s "Messages". Closing out the second installment is The Third Degree’s ‘Mercy’, which perfectly illustrates the past / present balance of Greg’s approach with its retrofied take on Duffy’s recent hit, a fitting finale to an unforgettable compilation series.

Nick Chacona & Anthony Mansfield 'Oh Snap!' [Greg Wilson Version]

06:39
Greg Wilson - Credit To The Edit Vol.2 (Tirk - 2009) Issued in 2008 on the Hector Works label, my version of ‘Oh Snap!’ proved to be a big underground success and, along with 1gnition’s ‘Secret Sunday Lover’ perhaps my best received re-working of a contemporary track during recent years. It came about via an email approach from DJ Anthony Mansfield, who I later met in San Francisco, resulting, as previously mentioned in the subsequent meeting with Corey Black of 40 Thieves at Moulton Studios, where they’re both based (Moulton Studios is named in honour of the Disco icon, Tom Moulton, pioneer of the remix and 12″ single). Although I haven’t met Nick Chacona, who’s over on the East Coast in Brooklyn, I included one of his earlier tracks, ‘Through The Door’, on my 2020 Vision mix CD, also from 2008. I did get to meet Fred Everything though, who also works out of Moulton (I featured two of Fred’s tracks on the 2020 album). That building is certainly a hot bed of creativity! I must thank Anthony for showing me around San Francisco whilst I was there. Being a 60’s obsessive it was a massive buzz for me to visit Haight-Ashbury. I was also blown away with the view, from over the other side of the Golden Gate bridge, of the Pacific gloriously blanketed by a eerie layer of thick fog that stretched out into the distance as far as the eye could see, making me feel like I was standing right on the edge of the world. It was an awe-inspiring image that I’ll always carry with me Written & Produced by Nick Chacona and Anthony Mansfield Published by Copyright Control Hector Works Records 2008 Licensed courtesy of Anthony Mansfield & Hector Works http://gregwilson.co.uk

Luxxury 'Hold On' [Greg Wilson & Peza Mix]

06:06
Greg Wilson - Credit To The Edit Vol.3 (Tirk - 2018) Available here: https://fanlink.to/CTTE3 In 2013 I received an email from the extravagantly named Baron Von Luxxury, who’s based in Los Angeles. He told me he was launching a series of ‘dubby edits’, 3 of which he’d linked me to, including a somewhat spaced-out version of ‘Hotel California’. I’d presumed it was some obscure European variant I hadn’t heard before, the vocoder vocal completely throwing me, and it was only later that I realized that Luxxury had worked from the original stems, completely reinventing the LA Soft-Rock classic that had taken The Eagles to the top of the US chart in 1977. In a club context, at 82bpm this was slow, even for a DJ like myself who’s comfortable playing tracks below 100bpm, so it was all about finding the right moment for it. I had to wait a little while, but it finally arrived that December, when I used it to commence my 8-hour session at Kantine am Berghain in Berlin. With the Berghain recording serving to ignite interest, Luxxury had a viral hit on his hands when he unofficially issued ‘Hotel California’ the following January. Then it all blew up in his face, with Warner Music, who hold the song’s copyright, threatening legal action and forcing take-downs across all of his platforms. Despite the setback, interest in Luxxury’s reworks built, with downtempo delights like ‘Riders On The Storm’ by The Doors and his instrumental slant on the Bee Gees ‘Night Fever’, both big for me, as was his later take on ‘Whole Lotta Love’ by Led Zeppelin – Rock and Pop undoubtedly his speciality. In 2015 I approached him to remix my ‘Summer Came My Way’ single, featuring vocalists Carmel & Katherine Reynolds, and this would be the first release on my then new Super Weird Substance label. I’d subsequently work on remixes for 2 tracks he released in 2016, ‘Take It Slow’ (with Derek Kaye) and ‘Hold On’ (with Peza), the latter of which is included here. The Reynolds were also recruited to add their vocal finesse to great effect. Greg Wilson Boogie Monster

this is just part of the song buy limited 12" http://www.juno.co.uk/products/edit-the-edit-2/396568-01/?ref=dig Three heavyweights of the new Disco era, Greg Wilson, Todd Terje and the 6th Borough Project (Graeme Clark aka The Revenge and Craig Smith), are brought together on one serious slab of crucial vinyl, via GW's Edit The Edit imprint. Terje's 'Boogie', which appeared in 2007 under his Wade Nichols alias as part of the Mindless Boogie series, is extended and overdubbed, whilst 6BP's 'How Can I Show You', from 2009, gets well and truly worked over for the flipside's 'Drop The Bomb'. The first Edit The Edit is now a cult classic, having unveiled the epic 'Two Sides Of Sympathy'. The second release has been a long time coming but the wait, I'm sure you'll agree, was well worthwhile now the time has arrived to ignite the night with these two crucial chunks of Disco Funk dynamite.
