Tips to draw better a fashion sketch in 4 minutes

05:00
The tutorial for today: Tips to draw better a fashion sketch in 4 minutes. We start with the construction axes. Don't over draw them. Just a simple sketch will do.This simple axes will help you and they will be a small guidance for your future costume.Remember that if the shoulder axis goes up, the hip line will balance the figue and it will be sketched in the oposite direction.Use soft lines and the use strong strokes that will create your costume. This is an exercise about composition, accents, balancing the lines in a fashion costume, it is an exercise that will help you be more creative, very fast, As a tip: use a music playlist and depending on the music, you can accelerate your lines, after the beat. There is no use in drawing the details, all you have to do is to have an expressive line, very modulated. For the second fashion sketch start, as previously, with the axes. Then add lines, dots and surfaces to your costume, to make in even more creative and interesting to be watched. A drawing is perfect when you have multiple line sizes - and these you can obtain when you press softer or harder, when you can add pression to your pencils and control the lines. Another tip is to keep your eyes half closed to see where you need to put the accents in a fashion sketch. If the sketch has almost the same "color" let's say, it is time to have areas where the line is stronger or softer, where you have empty spaces or black surfaces. These areas are those where the eye of the viewer stops and reflects, where the eye takes a break. When drawing more figures on a single paper sheet, try to think of all of them as a unit, as a whole. Each fashion sketch can be treated as an individual composition, but also the full paper should be in harmony, having the perfect composition. See those black areas that I underline sometimeS? Those are the equilibrium of each composition and they help you create a rythm to your drawings. At then end, take a look at all my drawings on this page and try to understand which technique I applied and why. The first model is feminine and it has a curved soft line. The scond one has the accents put on the upper side, having big volumes in the shape of a pair of earrings and jewelry for the neck. The third one is more elastic, nervous and it has a bigger volume the the preivous sketches. Here the contrast between the soft lines and those with accents is bigger. The costume is composed by 3 areas that are round: the two volumes on the shoulders and the lower part- the skirt. The last one has a more masculine approach. The lines are bold, strong and they tend to have angles. They are more rigid and they look geometric somehow. The last figure is the accent of this composition. The line is crazy and unexpected, compared to the previous strokes. Try to do this exercise at home, by copying my sketches and then by inventing new ones. Good luck!

How to do fashion sketches step by step

06:34
I'm Ioana Avram, fashion designer. Welcome to my Fashion teaching channel where you will find design videos starting from basic, easy level ( for beginners ) until advanced level. Follow my advices regarding the hand draw: anatomy studies, fashion poses, figures and croquis, learn about style and craft, fabrics and how to create garments. I love painting and sketching, I like fabrics and fashion magazines and especially pencil, ink and watercolor technique. I believe anyone can draw after practicing a while because all you need is work, work, work and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. :) I made this channel to prove that it's ok to have talent, but not necessary. Through my one of a kind technique you will see how easy it will be to draw from now on. You will learn more about fashion and everything related to it: composition, shading, textures, different techniques and especially learn how to draw fashion sketches all by yourself. I will post new videos each Thursday so don't forget to subscribe. I will do my best to answer all comments. Ask anything you want, and feel free to leave any suggestions for future videos! All are taken into consideration. For more info visit my website fashion-teaching.com. Thank you and take care! FAQ: 1. What materials do you use for your drawings? ****************************************************** I use Toison d'Or or Koh-I-Noor pencils ( from 4B to 8B), Copic markers, Derwent coloured pencils, Canson paper or Fabriano paper, Factis eraser, metal pencil sharper and Winsor and Newton watercolors and ink. 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? ****************************************************** Yes, I studied design and fashion design ( for 4 years) at the University of Arts and Design in Cluj, Romania, Europe. I had a scholarship in Katowice, Poland and another one in Coburg, Germany and a course attended with Gary Tu - a well-known fashion illustrator from Taipei, Taiwan. 3.Where do you get your inspiration? ****************************************************** Basically I am very interested in any image and text that could grab my attention: fashion albums, history of art, books I read, movies I see...In fact, i will share below all my sources of inspiration. Find all my inspirational folders here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/397137153755499/photos/ 4. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? ****************************************************** Definitely I would recommend Gottfried Bammes' Anatomy, Barcsay's Anatomy and David Downton's illustrations that you will find here: http://www.daviddownton.com/ and here: http://instagram.com/daviddownton 5. How long have you been drawing? ****************************************************** 30 years ago some desperate parents interdicted their 3 years old child to use pencils to draw on their house's inner walls :). Due to this, and to the fact that all pencils, brushes and markers were forbidden, the child found another way to express: all chocolate received was hidden and used to "decorate" the walls when all other tools were not available.30 years later, here I am, willing to tell a story on every wall there is. Not with chocolate, like I used to :), but in watercolors, as you can find on my shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/bijuterra. Thank you, and hope to enjoy my illustrations and videos from your comfortable armchair, having a cup of warm milk in your hand and smiling. 6. How can I send my drawing to you? ****************************************************** For any personal advice you can send me your illustrations or questions here: [email protected] and I will reply. Thank you! 7. Sketching a fashion illustration can be made simple with a step-by-step approach. Start with a line drawing, move to detailing of body muscles, then sketch the garment over the human figure, and finally render color and right fabric texture to the garment.

What materials do you use for your drawings? I use Copic Ciao markers and Touch Twin Markers, Quill Multiboard white paper, 2B and HB Pentel and Faber-Castell 0.5 mechanical pencils and Faber-Castell PVC-Free Space Eraser (Cool name) and I use Uni-ball Signo white fineliner 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? No. I am taking Studio Arts in senior high school right now. It's not from that class that I learned what I know. I am learning new things from the class, but so far, not to do with fashion illustration or manga drawings. I go to a regular high school, so it doesn't specialize in art. 3. How do you draw the models? Do you use any templates? I started out by tracing models from magazines which is harder than it sounds, but once you get the hang of it, its pretty easy. Then of course, I searched all types of videos on YouTube and some sites as well on Google, which unfortunately, I don't remember. 4. How old are you? I am now 18 years old 5. How long have you been drawing? I'm pretty sure I started drawing at 6. That's probably my oldest memory of me drawing. I got into manga drawings when I was 11 years old, I started teaching myself how to draw manga when I was 13 years old. I started developing an interest in fashion design also when I was 11, but I pursued that interest or taken it further at the age of 14. So, I would say I started drawing fashion illustration at the age of 14. 6. Where do you get your inspiration? I get my inspiration from music, photos on Instagram, fashion trends, things that I love. There are times where I am just in an Artist's Block and I feel really brain dead where I can't draw. Or I force myself to draw and it never turns out to be something I like. I am currently in an Artist's Block which has been going on since late October 2011, and I am finding ways to get out of it. I'll keep you posted on how I break through it :] 7. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? Definitely! Fashion Illustration by Anna Kiper and Fashion Poses for Fashion Illustrators by Sha Tahmasebi are two books that I own at the moment. I'm hoping to get more. These two books are very helpful if you're a beginner or even if you want to be a bit more advanced. http://www.monkeysee.com/play/5156-how-to-draw-clothes-on-a-fashion-figure this is a very basic tutorial but seriously, this tutorial helped me when I was just starting. My art materials to draw fashion sketches | Justine Leconte

04:50
This video shows you the art supplies that I use to draw fashion sketches: SKETCHING: HB and 2B grey pencils (I forgot to mention the erasers: a regular one, one that has a thin tip and a kneaded eraser which doesn’t leave residues on the sheet of paper) Graphite for quick sketching Charcoal pencil for the shadowing and to get really black backgrounds Ink pens (PIGMA 005, 05 and 1 // FABER-CASTELL Small, Medium & Bold) Fixative (either from the art supplies store or a simple hairspray) COLORING: Markers: Chartpak AD / Copic / Prismacolor (several colors + darker shades of those colors, warm and cold greys, several black tones, several skin tones and a blender) Color pencils: a regular box of colors will do the job (but you need white, black, grey and a skin tone) PAPER: Sketchbook in a format that fits your pre-made croquis, slightly see-through Marker paper (bleedproof) in a larger format. 11 Tips & Techniques | Fashion Sketching

04:04
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501932-11-Tips-and-Techniques-Fashion-Sketching Learn eleven fashion sketching tips and techniques from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. All right, here are some tricks of the trade, shortcuts, call them whatever you want but they're really going to help you out in fashion design. First thing is always have a good croquis that you've developed, okay? That's what's going to make everything easier when you're sketching your clothes. I'm just going to sketch and talk through this but, one thing is, you never want to start with pen, unless you're really confident. You always want a good mechanical pencil. You start your sketch in pencil; you know you can just always go in and erase the pencil. I'm going to do like a gown with a train here. I have my little croquis underneath so that's helping me out, making it go real fast. And another thing that you want to always have on hand, because even if after you've inked in your sketch, is whiteout. Whiteout is a great thing. It will never show up on a scan when you finally scan the finished product into your computer, because you can then print it out and have a gorgeous, clean version; that's another trick. So do your sketch, you scan it in, you lose all the whiteout and whatever else you've done to it; even if you've done patchwork or what have you, you'll never know. Photoshop is a good trick for coloring things in, though I don't use it, I'm kind of old-fashioned that way. You know you really don't have to draw hair. Hair is not that important. You don't have to draw hands if you don't want to; it's not about the hands. You want a good eraser because you are going to mess up, I promise. A definite don't is do not ink until you're ready because you don't want to have to redraw something. Especially if you have a client sitting right beside you; they're not going to want to sit there and watch you draw it all over again. Another great thing is to have a sketching kit that you can pretty much take with you wherever you go because you never know when you're going to get inspired to do what you're going to do. You want to have it on-hand so that you get that idea right out of your head before it's gone. It's happened to me a million times and I learned my lesson. Once I'm happy with the sketch, I will usually go in and give it some ink. And even at this point, you still can ink in the sketch and not worry about the pencil; that's what erasers are for, it's no big deal. So here we go. And try to keep your lines smooth and beautiful. And don't be fazed if they break because that just adds some dimension and what not, "character" we'll call it. She's in a long cap sleeve gown. I'm really into like elongating the body with seam lines; that's one of my things. And even if you don't go straight over your pencil lines, just kind of go with the flow; let your body feel it as you go. Don't over think it; that's a big no-no. Give it some bead work. And like you know, even if you're drawing lace, if you're drawing a plaid, what have you, as long as you have a piece of the fabric on the same page, it really could just be a little squiggle on the sketch; it's not really meant to be that literal. Don't get too hung up on those details. Because it's all about giving the notion of what the finished product is going to be and showing who you're making it for, or who you're trying to get your point across to, right there and then. Those are some of the tricks of the trade, shortcuts, et cetera.
