How to design a successful logo? How to build a famous brand for your business? Some of the most well-known logos in the world were purposefully designed to indicate something much more than simple beauty. In fact, it seems that in some cases, every line, curve, and color has meaning behind it.
Adidas, Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola, Toyota… We see these famous brands everywhere but never consider what their logos exactly mean. Curious to know the secret? Watch the 16 famous logos with a hidden meaning you've never noticed.
#logomeaning #logosecret #
Hyundai 0:33
The letter ’Н’ symbolizes two people – a client and a representative of the company – shaking hands.
Adidas 0:52
The current logo is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. This symbolizes a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges that all sportsmen have to overcome day after day.
Apple 1:21
Rob Janoff, the designer who came up with the world-famous Apple company logo, explained his idea in one of his interviews. He bought a bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple.
Vaio 1:58
The first two letters of the Vaio logo symbolize an analogue wave. The last two are similar to the numbers 1 and 0 — that is, symbols of a digital signal.
Amazon 2:14
The orange arrow is similar to a smile because the company wants its customers to be satisfied. The arrow is also stretched between the letters ’A’ and ’Z’, in a hint that the company sells absolutely every product you can imagine.
Baskin Robbins 2:40
The pink-colored parts of the "BR" section make up the number 31, which is how many ice cream flavors Baskin Robbins used to famously sell.
Toyota 2:56
The logo represents a stylized image of a needle eye with a thread passing through it. This is a hint at the company’s past – they used to produce weaving machines.
Continental 3:28
Continental, a famous car tire producer, has a logo in which the first two letters depict a car wheel.
Formula 1 3:41
If you look carefully at the white space between the letter ’F’ and the red stripes, you can see the number 1.
Pinterest 3:59
On Pinterest, people collect images they like from across the Internet and ’pin’ them to their online boards. That’s why the image of a pin is hidden in the letter P.
Beats 4:17
Beats, an audio equipment producer based in the USA, uses a logo in which the letter ’B’ looks like headphones on a person’s head.
Toblerone 4:32
The famous chocolate company based in Bern, Switzerland, has a silhouette of a bear in its logo. That's because Bern is sometimes called a city of bears.
BMW 4:55
The logo is simply a part of the Bavarian flag, the area of Germany where the company originated.
LG 5:18
The logo is a stylized image of a person’s face. According to the company, this represents its aspiration to have human relations with their customers.
Evernote 5:34
The corner of the elephant’s ear is folded over in a similar way how people fold the corner of a page to make notes.
Coca-Cola 5:57
In the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, you can see the Danish flag. It’s purely a coincidence. Nevertheless, Coca-Cola has used this as part of its marketing campaigns in the Scandinavian country.

Ideas from the History of Graphic Design
About this course: This condensed survey course focuses on four key periods or themes from the history of design. Together we’ll trace the emergence of design as a recognized practice, why things look the way they do, and how designers approached specific design problems in their work. This is an essential course for emerging designers entering the field, or for students interested in learning more about visual culture and analysis. No previous experience is required.

About this presentation
What’s the secret to becoming a legendary design company like Apple or BMW? In this 99U talk, designer Robert Brunner deconstructs his creative process revealing the stories behind products like Beats by Dre headphones and the Polaroid Cube.
First, he says, recognize that a brand belongs to your customers. “You don’t own your brand. A brand isn’t a logo or packaging,” he says. “It’s a gut feeling. And when two people have the same gut feeling, you have a brand.” Secondly, most people view design as a part of the production chain, you get requirements in and out comes a product. But design is the chain, and for the best products it permeates every step. “It should be a topic of conversation constantly,” he says. “Thats how you make great stuff.”

Before designers like Shepard Fairey started his ubiquitous Andre The Giant has a posse and the "OBEY" phenomenon, Russian artist and graphic designer Alexander Rodchenko was blazing a trail and forging a path forward for contemporary graphic design. To say that he and other Russian Constructivist "influenced" contemporary design would be an understatement.
Ben wanted to learn more about Art History, so Chris gave him a homework assignment on Alexander Rodchenko. His work continues to inspire logos, posters and other design works today. Whose work inspires you?
--
0:46 Alexander Rodchenko: 1891-1956
1:19 Dance. An Objectless Composition - 1915
1:47 Construction No. 127 1920
2:08 Pure Red Color, Pure Yellow Color, Pure Blue Color (The End Of Painting 1921)
2:34 Alexander embraced the idea that artists and designers as engineers over asthetes (people who value asthetics)
3:13 Rodchenko is known as a father of constructivism (Spatial construction No. 12 - 1920)
4:57 Switch from fine art into design/purpose (Better Pacifiers 1923)
6:56 In the 1920's Rodchenko delved into politics (Books 1924)
8:11 Originality - Everything comes from something.
8:35 It's hard to pull off symmetrical layouts and make them look fresh and modern.
10:09 Strive to create design that is timeless, and is rooted in solid design fundamentals.
13:40 In the 1930's Rodchenko's design work became outlawed, so he shifted his focus to photography
15:24 A lot of our visual vocabulary is borrowed from the past.
16:18 Let go of trying to be original, and focus on being good.

"The strength of Pure"
http://www.braun.com/uk/world-of-braun/braun-design.html
The overarching theme of the Braun brand today, "The strength of pure," is rooted in over half a century of modern design. Starting in 1955, the Braun brothers, Fritz Eichler and Dieter Rams pioneered a new direction, and the resulting products introduced "good design" into our everyday lives. Certainly Braun products have evolved over the decades in appearance and technology, but the brand's core values of functionality, quality and aesthetics are as relevant today as they were 55 years ago, when Braun design was born.

The Biz Doc, Tom Ellsworth dives into case study #17 on Air Jordan's & How Nike Created a Brand Worth Billions .
In this case study – you will learn negotiation tips and how to go big on marketing when a game-changing deal is on the table.
It’s a story of a tense prolonged negotiation among giant companies that was won by Nike against the odds:
Adidas: a struggling company that had lost its founder and then lost its way in the cut-throat jungle of athletic shoes. Michael Jordan WANTED Adidas but they FUMBLED the opportunity.
Converse: The king of basketball was about to fall off the throne. They had Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Dr. J – but they were slipping and not innovating at a time when fashion was coming to athletic shoes. They were CONTENT to offer Michael Jordan the standard NBA player deal – but he wanted to see innovation and fresh ideas.
Nike: The leader in running shoes had recently told Wall Street that it had a financial loss. Worse, the 1984 Olympics saw Carl Lewis will gold medals in flashy Nikes but that didn’t translate to sales. They NEEDED Michael Jordan and they knew it. The incredible part is that Michael Jordan didn’t even want to go to the Nike meeting – his parents were talked into it by his agent!

In the first movie in our Bolon at Heart video series, Annica and Marie Eklund explain how they transformed their grandfather's rug company into a glamorous design brand.
Led by sisters Annica and Marie Eklund since 2003, Bolon is famous for its woven vinyl flooring, which has been used around the globe by some of the world's leading architects and designers.
However, the company's origins are much more humble. It was founded in Stockholm by Annica and Marie's grandfather Nils-Erik Eklund in 1949, who made rag rugs from fabric offcuts.
"The story of Bolon started with our grandfather passing a factory everyday," explains Annica Eklund in the movie, which Dezeen filmed at Bolon's headquarters in Ulricehamn, Sweden.
"He saw this huge amount of leftover textile and really saw the potential of re-using it. He produced rugs for residential use made of cotton and nylon."
Annica and Marie's parents Monica and Lars Eklund took over the company in 1967 and built up Bolon's reputation as a producer of caravan awning mats throughout the 1970s and 80s.
"We did a lot of camping [as a family], and our father has always been a kind of inventor," Annica says. "He was missing a product to use in the camping lifestyle."
Bolon started manufacturing wall-to-wall woven vinyl flooring in 1993. Ten years later, Annica and Marie took over the company as managing director and creative director respectively.
Annica is a former showjumper for Sweden's national team, while Marie modelled in Italy during her studies at Florence's Accademia Moda. When they joined the family business, both sisters knew they wanted to take the company in a new direction.
"Our passion has always been about fashion, design and interiors," Marie Eklund says. "So we had to develop the company in this direction and add something completely new."

Logos surround us in digital and physical space, but we rarely examine the thought and artistic thinking that goes into the design of these symbols. Utilizing a silent vocabulary of colors, shapes, and typography, logo designers give a visual identity to companies and organizations of all types. From cave painters to modern designers, artists throughout history have been reducing the complex down to simple ideas that communicate with the world.

This is not a regular ASOS haul. It's rather an ASOS experiment... I am a fashion designer so I did a little experiment: I ordered several types of garments, fabrics, materials, details and seams to analyse the fit, the proportions, the quality and the overall worth of the items. Is ASOS worth it?
When the pieces don't fit or demonstrate poor quality, I explain why and what is missing - this is to help you assess the quality of the clothing you get online. I hope you will find this helpful!
Thumbs up if you liked this video :-)

I can't recommend the garments shown in this video. Hence I won't link them here.
Note: I ordered from the German website (since I am based in Berlin) and the prices shown on the orange price tags are the German prices i.e. the prices I paid.
The prices you saw while I was scrolling and shopping are those of the Irish website - because I needed a version in English to show you. That's why they are different prices. ASOS prices vary depending on your country.
