Trailer - Offshore Anchor Handling Edition 2

01:19
Working on board an anchor handling vessel (AHV), is an experience unlike that of working on board most other types of ship. It is more exacting and more hazardous because the operations involved in offshore anchor handling are very complex and weather dependent. Only highly trained seafarers can work on these vessels, whether officers or deckhands. At all times and in every case the importance of safety is emphasised. Every operation is preceded by risk assessment conducted by the Master and a toolbox talk between everyone involved in the operation. Nothing is left to chance. No operation is carried out if the weather is unsuitable for it and any that has been started will be halted if the weather becomes detrimental. Safety always comes first. In deep sea operations the tasks become even more complex because more than one AHV may be involved due to the heavier chains and other equipment deployed. Communication between the rig and the vessels is vitally important. All functions must be co-ordinated as the operation progresses. The programme concludes with the illustration of the various new anchors and anchor handling techniques that are being developed for deep water anchor handling operations. A workbook is available with the DVD to facilitate an effective training programme.

How deep is deep Imagining the MH370 search underwater

02:44
Just how hard is it to find a plane at the bottom of the ocean? Imagine standing on a mountain top and trying to spot a suitcase on the ground below. Then imagine doing it in complete darkness. That's basically what crews searching for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 have been trying to do for a month. A Royal Australian Air Force AP-3C Orion flies past the Australian vessel Ocean Shield on Wednesday, April 9, on a mission to drop sonar buoys to assist in the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 in the southern Indian Ocean. Searchers are combing thousands of square miles of the ocean for signs of Flight 370, which disappeared March 8. A relative of a passenger on the missing flight cries at a vigil in Beijing on Tuesday, April 8. A member of the Royal Australian Air Force walks toward a plane that has just arrived in Perth, Australia, on April 8. Australian Defense Force divers from the Ocean Shield vessel scan the water for debris in the southern Indian Ocean on Monday, April 7. A towed pinger locator is readied to be deployed on April 7 off the deck of the Australian vessel Ocean Shield in the search for the missing jet's flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder. Capt. Mark Matthews of the U.S. Navy talks to reporters in Perth on April 7 about the search. A member of the search operation points to a map outlining the current search areas during a press conference on April 7 in Perth. A U.S. Navy airplane takes off from Perth to assist in the search on April 7. A member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force looks at a flare in the Indian Ocean on Friday, April 4, during search operations. Members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force monitor data April 4 on board an aircraft during search operations. A relative of a Flight 370 passenger watches television in a Beijing hotel as he awaits new information about the missing plane on Thursday, April 3. Another relative of a Flight 370 passenger waits for updates in Beijing on Wednesday, April 2. Many families have criticized the Malaysian government's handling of information in the plane's disappearance. A member of the Japanese coast guard points to a flight position data screen while searching for debris from the missing jet on Tuesday, April 1. Kojiro Tanaka, head of the Japanese coast guard search mission, explains the efforts en route to the search zone April 1. PROJECT MOHOLE GLOBAL MARINE DEEP SEA DRILLING OPERATION INTO EARTH'S MANTLE 29384

18:46
Project Mohole was an ambitious attempt to drill through the Earth's crust into the Mohorovi i discontinuity, and to provide an Earth science complement to the high profile Space Race. The project was initially led by the American Miscellaneous Society (AMSOC) with funding from the National Science Foundation. Phase One was executed in spring 1961. Five holes were drilled off the coast of Guadalupe Island, Mexico, the deepest at 183 m (601 ft) below the sea floor in 3,500 m (11,700 ft) of water. This was unprecedented: not in the hole's depth but because of the depth of the ocean and because it was drilled from an untethered platform. Also, the core sample proved valuable, penetrating through Miocene age sediments for the first time to reveal the lowest 13 m (44 ft) consisting of basalt. Project Mohole contracted with Global Marine of Los Angeles for the use of its oil drillship CUSS I. A consortium of Continental, Union, Superior and Shell Oil Companies, CUSS had originally developed it in 1956 as a technological test bed for the nascent offshore oil industry. CUSS I was one of the first vessels in the world capable of drilling in water depth up to 3,560 m (11,680 ft), while maintaining a position within a radius of 600 ft (180 m). Project Mohole expanded its operational range by inventing what is now known as dynamic positioning. Phase One proved that both the technology and expertise were available to drill into the Earth's mantle. It was intended as the experimental phase of the project, and did succeed in drilling to a depth of 601 feet below the sea floor [1]. However, deeper drilling never took place: an attempted shift of operational control to NSF proved unsatisfactory, AMSOC dissolved itself, phase two of the project was abandoned and the entire project discontinued by Congress, objecting to increasing costs in 1966.

Google looks to expand cloud operations by going deep sea (cable) diving

03:08
Team DT is back from CES, we hope you got a chance to look around at our comprehensive coverage. If not, we have a few links below you might find interesting. But now that CES is over, it’s back to reality – and waiting for all that great new gear to show up. We’ll keep you updated. Anyway, Google is making news today with their new big push into cloud computing, something that so far has been dominated by Amazon and others. Business Insider reports that Google, which operates under the “Alphabet” umbrella, is planning to roll out three new undersea data cables by next year in a bid to expand its cloud-based offering to more regions around the globe. It’s all part of a $30-billion infrastructure push that will include data centers and other facilities in the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Montreal, Finland and that faraway country of Los Angeles, wherever that is. Undersea internet cables carry about 90 percent of the international internet traffic, so they’re key to speeding up data moving between continents. National Science Foundation: Deep Sea Drilling Project - 1974 - CharlieDeanArchives

27:22
The original can be found here: https://archive.org/details/cus_00008 This film depicts the work of D/V Glomar Challenger on the NSF sponsored Deep Sea Drilling Project. The film includes footage of drilling operations and cores and describes the theory of sea floor spreading. The D/V Glomar Challenger (ship) mission was the coring of deep ocean sediments in waters of twenty thousand deep in the oceans of the world. The mission was broken up into cruises or legs, each lasting about two months. Film shows ship activity, the computer that was used, radio receiving satellite signals from space to locate exact position wanted. Shows graphic demonstration of a giant land mass which breaks up into several continents. Also scientists show bones of animals found on one continent from another, demonstrating that the continents were together at one time. As a result why did the continents divide? Gives explanation of deep floor spreading of the ocean floors, where earth's magnetic fields caused the ridges to move outward. Scientists wanted to prove the magnetic pulls in the rocks, showing opposite pulls could be determined by the cores they would pull from the ocean bottom floor. Film shows the drilling, also the geologist and other scientists working on the ship. . CharlieDeanArchives - Archive footage from the 20th century making history come alive!

PROJECT MOHOLE GLOBAL MARINE DEEP SEA DRILLING OPERATION INTO EARTH'S MANTLE 21084

18:45
This film documents Project Mohole, an ambitious attempt to drill through the Earth's crust into the Mohorovičić discontinuity, and to provide an Earth science complement to the high-profile Space Race. The project was initially led by the American Miscellaneous Society with funding from the National Science Foundation. The goal was to use technology developed for the petroleum industry to penetrate deeper into the Earth's crust than ever before. A converted U.S. Navy ship, CUSK ONE, was used in the program. Mohole inadvertently contributed to another project led by corporate sponsor Global Marine, the Jennifer Project in which the Glomar Explorer (a larger platform than Cusk) was used in an attempt to retrieve a Soviet submarine. Phase One was executed in spring 1961. Five holes were drilled off the coast of Guadalupe Island, Mexico, the deepest to 601 ft (183 m) below the sea floor in 11,700 ft (3,600 m) of water. An attempted shift of operational control to the National Science Foundation proved unsatisfactory, and in short order the American Miscellaneous Society dissolved itself, phase two of the project was abandoned and the entire project was discontinued by Congress, which objected to increasing costs in 1966. The American Miscellaneous Society (AMSOC - 1952 to 1964) was formed by Gordon Lill, of the Office of Naval Research, as an organization designed to collect various Earth science research ideas that were submitted by scientists to the U.S. Navy and didn't fit into any particular category. Membership in AMSOC was open to everyone and so there was no official membership list. Prospective members could join whenever two or more members were together. The most famous project to come out of AMSOC was the Project Mohole, whose goal was to drill into the Earth's mantle. The society dissolved itself in 1964. LEGO CITY 60096: Deep Sea Operation Base

15:05
This is Joakim's first set from Deep Sea Explorers line and his biggest yet with 907 pcs and he could not be more excited. His second biggest is the Prison Island which is roughly 754 pcs if I remember it correctly. Includes 5 minifigures with assorted accessories: a pilot, deep-sea diver, scuba diver and 2 deep-sea explorers. I personally love the design of the underwater habitat base. The sea plane is also nice. It is a fun plane that looks good and has useful features such as side hatches revealing a roomy cargo compartment. The submarine and underwater scooter look nice as well with the scooter providing a cool way for the female diver to ferry gas cylinders to and from the underwater base. There is an aqua-raiders dude with the heavy helmet and a little treasure scene. The build is quite fun with the various components of the set taking shape and providing a rewarding experience for Joakim to unravel. The parts selection is really good with some useful beams and specialized bricks. The box art is pretty attractive and does a good job at showcasing the set. For me, and Joakim agrees, the underwater base is the crown jewel of the set. It is highly detailed and pleasing. The main habitat room is decorated with a fire extinguisher, flashlight, speargun and lots of status displays. On the outside, the habitat features spotlights, support elements and gas cylinders. The loading bay features a cool crane which lifts the sub from the water access pool onto the parking spot. It operates smoothly and is fun to play with. This is a suitable base for the exploration team. Overall, a really nice divers set which offers a cool underwater base. The set offers lots of playability and looks really good. Joakim enjoyed building this set and looks forward to taking some apart like his previous builds creating new other things as well. A lot of fun! Would highly recommend this. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Undersea internet cables carry about 90 percent of the international internet traffic, so they’re key to speeding up data moving between continents. https://www.digitaltrends.com/dt-daily/google-4/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Tech using http://wochit.com

U.S. NAVY STANDARD DEEP SEA DIVING OUTFIT TRAINING FILM 43424 NA

27:42
Dating to the 1950s, this U.S. Navy film USING THE STANDARD DEEP SEA DIVING OUFIT gives an explanation of the hard hat diving suit, and shows how it is used in Navy operations. The diver's crewmen are shown, including the diving officer, diving tender and backup tender, as well as the phone talker. A time keeper or diving supervisor is also shown, as well as an engineer who forces air to the diver below. Finally, a standby diver is shown, fully dressed except for his helmet, ready to assist or rescue the diver. The film discusses basic procedures: descending to the bottom, working on the bottom, and ascending to the surface. At 7:00, an emergency situation is seen with the diving suit, one of several scenarios where divers can get into trouble is seen. At 8:12, a build-up of carbon dioxide is seen, with the diver adjusting his valves to relieve the problem. A standard diving dress consists of a metallic (copper and brass or bronze) diving helmet, an airline or hose from a surface supplied diving air pump, a canvas diving suit, diving knife and weighted boots. An important part of the equipment is the lead weights, generally on the chest, back and shoes, to counteract the buoyancy of the helmet and diving suit. This type of diving equipment is also known as hard-hat or copper hat equipment, or heavy gear. Leading British manufacturers were Siebe Gorman and Heinke. In the United States, the dominant makers were DESCO, Morse, Miller-Dunn and Schräder and it is sometimes known as a "Diver Dan" outfit, from the television show of the same name. It was commonly used for underwater civil engineering, commercial diving, pearl shell diving and naval diving. The helmet was usually made of copper with soldered on brass fittings. The windows are known as lights or ports. The front port usually opens on the surface by being screwed out or opens a hinge. The back of the helmet has two goose neck fittings. One has a non-return valve and is the connection for the air line. The other is for the diver's telephone. Later helmets include a non-return valve where the airline is connected, which prevents potentially fatal helmet squeeze if the pressure in the hose is lost. The difference in pressure between the surface and the diver can be so great that if the air line were cut on the surface and there was no non-return valve, the diver would be squeezed into the helmet by the external pressure, and injured or possibly killed. Helmets have a spring-loaded exhaust valve which allows the air to leave the helmet. The spring force is adjustable by the diver and prevents the diver's suit from deflating completely or over-inflating and the diver being floated uncontrollably to the surface. Some helmets have an extra manual exhaust valve known as a spit-cock. This allows the diver to vent excess air when he is in a position where the main exhaust will not function correctly. Canine teeth less prominent than those of most other Snappers. Red eye. Anal fin is triangular. The Caribbean Red Snapper, Lutjanus purpureus, is very similar in appearance and is found in the northwest and central Caribbean. SIZE: Common from a pound or so to about 6 or 8 pounds. Usual maximum is about 20 pounds, although the Red Snapper can rarely run as high as 30 or 40 pounds. World record 50 pounds, 4 ounces; Florida record 46 pounds, 8 ounces. FOOD VALUE: Excellent at all sizes. GAME QUALITIES: A hard-fighting fish that uses strong, head-shaking tactics rather than long runs. TACKLE AND BAITS: Some Red Snapper spots in fair- ly shallow water, say up to 50 or 60 feet, permit the use of light ocean tackle, or even heavy spinning and baitcasting tackle. Much Snapper fishing, however— especially on long-range headboat and charterboat trips from Panhandle ports—requires deep drops in strong current. This means that only very heavy rods and strong lines of 50- or 80-pound test can handle the heavy weights needed to do the job. As for baits, dead Cigar Minnows, Pilchards or cut fish and squid do well at times, although in heavily fished spots (which most are these days) it will probably be nec- essary to use live small baitfish to coax bites from Snappers of decent size. FISHING SYSTEMS: Still Fishing; Casting; Drifting. RANGE: A temperate fish rather than tropical, the Red Snapper is rare in South Florida, although caught occasionally. It is standard bottom-fishing fare, however, off- shore of the Atlantic Coast from about the center of the Peninsula northward, and in deep waters of the northern Gulf. HABITAT: Along the Panhandle, Red Snappers are sometimes found in fairly shallow water off the beaches, and even in deep holes of the larger bays. Off the Peninsular Gulf Coast, however, few Red Snappers are found close enough to shore to merit a one-day effort; most offshore Snappers along that part of the coast are Grays." http://www.floridasportsman.com/sportfish/redsnapper/ http://myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/snappers/faqs/
