Selector Inheritance & Operators | Starting with Sass

04:59
This series is all about getting up and running with the basics of Sass. In today's episode, we will be covering Selector Inheritance and Math Operators which will help you make your CSS code more modular and scalable. Remember to Subscribe https://goo.gl/6vCw64 Extend/Inheritance ////////////////////////////////////// This is one of the most useful features of Sass. Using @extend lets you share a set of CSS properties from one selector to another. It helps keep your Sass very DRY. In our example, we're going to create a simple series of messaging for errors, warnings, and successes using another feature which goes hand in hand with extending, placeholder classes. A placeholder class is a special type of class that only prints when it is extended and can help keep your compiled CSS neat and clean. Operators ////////////////////////////////////// Doing math in your CSS is very helpful. Sass has a handful of standard math operators like +, -, *, /, and %. In our example we're going to do some simple math to calculate widths for an aside & article. Sass is the most mature, stable, and powerful professional grade CSS extension language in the world. In this series we will be covering the basics of Sass: Preprocessing Variables Nesting Partials Import Mixins Inheritance Operators CSS on its own can be fun, but stylesheets are getting larger, more complex, and harder to maintain. This is where a preprocessor can help. Sass lets you use features that don't exist in CSS yet like variables, nesting, mixins, inheritance and other nifty goodies that make writing CSS fun again. Once you start tinkering with Sass, it will take your preprocessed Sass file and save it as a normal CSS file that you can use in your website. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ////////// Sign up for my Monthly Newsletter http://jesseshowalter.com/newsletter - ////////// Website http://www.jesseshowalter.com - ////////// Subscribe: https://goo.gl/6vCw64 - If you want to support the content I make and buy me a cup of coffee https://www.buymeacoffee.com/jessesho... ////////// Social Twitter: http://twitter.com/iamjesseshow Podcast: https://anchor.fm/iamjesseshow Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/iamjesseshow Medium: https://medium.com/@iamjesseshow -

Defining Custom At-Rules in CSS (extending CSS with JavaScript)

06:42
In this video I'll show you one way you can write 100% valid CSS that contains custom at-rules you can read and work with using JavaScript. Don't worry about the new Function() in the demo, this is a client-side demo to illustrate how the technique can work, ideally you would preprocess the CSS stylesheet containing a JS-powered rule serverside and extract the JS-powered rules from the stylesheet, then output CSS and JS with clean functions

Drupal 7 Sweaver Module: Change your theme style with no CSS code

16:43
Drupal 7 Sweaver Module: Change your theme style with no CSS code Daily Dose of Drupal episode 185 Video on Code Karate website - http://codekarate.com/daily-dose-of-drupal/drupal-7-sweaver-module-change-your-theme-style-no-css-code The Drupal 7 Sweaver module makes it easy to change the style of your Drupal theme without having to write any CSS code or dig through any template files. The Sweaver module provides a simple to use designer toolbar that sits at the bottom of the page and allows you to instantly change the look of your Drupal theme. The interface itself is not perfect, there are a few bugs with the toolbar, however it's still incredibly useful. You can change fonts, borders, spacing, backgrounds and much more. Plus you can even add your own CSS properties to extend the module to do exactly what you need it too. You can also easily save and load different saved styles making it easy to change the entire look of your site at a moments notice. If you are already an experienced Drupal themer, this module is probably not for you. However if you are just getting started with Drupal or don't know much about CSS, subthemes, or theme template files, this module might save you a lot of time. Here are the basic steps for using this module: 1. Install and enable the Drupal 7 Sweaver module 2. Use the style tab of the Sweaver design toolbar at the bottom of the page to change your theme style without CSS. You will need to click the element on the page that you want to style. This will turn on the style options for you to change. You can configure the font, borders, padding, margin, background, width/height, and much more. You can also upload images using the images tab on the Sweaver toolbar. 3. Once your style is the way you like it, you can click the Save tab to save your design. You can also choose to publish it to your Drupal site. This will allow all users to see your design (Note: you may need to clear the cache for anonymous users to see your design because of caching). 4. You can save and load multiple designs using the Drupal Sweaver module So check out the module and let me know what you think. I would always recommend going the Theme route if you know what you are doing, however this is still an option for those who want to stay as far away from code as possible. Happy designing... no... happy Sweavering!!! Here's the link: https://wplearninglab.com/contact-form-7-css-style-almost-anything/ I'll also paste the styles below: /* Submit Button CSS Styles */ .wpcf7 input[type=submit] { padding:15px 45px; background:#FF0000; color:#fff; font-size:30px; font-weight:bold; border:0 none; cursor:pointer; -webkit-border-radius: 5px; border-radius: 5px; } /* Label Text Styles */ .wpcf7 label { padding: 0 0 10px 0; font-size: 20px; } /* Text Input Field Styles */ .wpcf7 input[type=text], .wpcf7 input[type=email], .wpcf7 input[type=url], .wpcf7 input[type=tel], .wpcf7 input[type=number], .wpcf7 .wpcf7-select{ font-size:30px; border: 1px solid red; } /* Textarea Field Styles */ .wpcf7 textarea { width: 100%; color: red; font-size: 20px; border-color:red; } /* Overall form styles */ .wpcf7 { background-color:gray; } Remember that these styles need to go into your CSS stylesheet or if you are putting them right into the header of your site they need to be between style tags. If you are lucky enough to have a theme that allows custom CSS, you can copy and paste them into there. If you're not sure where to find a place where you can enter CSS, this tutorial may help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLSUWT9MNlA CSS is a very forgiving language, so if you make a change that makes something look really bad just undo your change, save and everything is back to normal. OOP is used to tap into class files that house your software logic in an organized, extensible, dynamic, reusable framework of sorts. You can use class files to create very robust custom frameworks in PHP. JavaScript and ActionScript 3.0 have similar flow to PHP so it also is easy to make external reusable modules for those languages as well. I also threw in a PHP bad word filter function, so you get a bit of string manipulation logic and array handling thrown in for free.

Contact form 7 generates standard compliant code and each contact form uses the .wpcf7 class. Remember you can play with the css to make it how you want it to look. If you need to do each form differently, just go to your site and right click the form, use inspect element to find the forms id attribute and add that to the css stylesheet. If you are new to css and wordPress, you can use a plugin called CSS Hero which makes changing your site even easier. For more information on Firebug or to get a firebug free download for your browser see getfirebug.com Chat notes from our session Ganti M 13:10 I started using it from last couple of weeks. @brettbum 13:16 that's new to me. didn't know you could see the padding/border etc around an image Ganti M 13:18 had lot of trouble figuring out the Div, Class and ID and which one do you make change, that is applicable to that page So you need to go and write at the bottem of style.css file @brettbum 13:21 Here are 3 plugins for wordpress for any theme if you do not want to touch your style.css file Most recently supported http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/my-custom-css/ Not recently supported http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pc-custom-css/ http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/best-custom-css/ Ganti M 13:21 Thank you Brett @brettbum 13:22 np some themes like woo themes have their own built in system essentially, some don't Ganti M 13:23 I started using iThemes, Builder Responsive and it has a style manager, which accepts special CSS. iThemes Builder is excellent and I really like it Steve F 13:26 I prefer to put all styles directly into *.css files. plugins and themes put all that data into the database which means extra queries and slower sights id / class div / span @brettbum 13:26 good point Steve When I'm developing I use the plugin, once I have things figured out, I generally lock it down in the main style sheet Steve F 13:26 you should only have one id per page where as class can be repeated Ganti M 13:28 Thank you steve. iThemes Builder keeps all the CSS info in the child theme Style.CSS file and is not in the database, as far as I know Ganti M 13:35 Thank you Clyton. Steve how do you change the page ID, is it WP assigned Shuttr Down left group chat. Shuttr Down joined group chat. 3. Inheritance in Sass In instances where you do not want to repeat yourself, you can extend a base class or selector from the same style sheet to your child classes. So, with Sass you can use it's precious gift Inheritance or Extending. This could be the greatest feature except for variables in Sass that you can use in your daily life (my opinion) Stay tuned with Ninponix Tutorials for more learning material :D YouTube : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiD_4ZDxAsVUni6ba_7qZ0A Facebook : http://www.facebook.com/Ninponix Twitter : http://www.twitter.com/chamandana

Pure CSS Rhombus Tutorial - web development

21:22
#purecss #scss #rhombus #css3 #frontendfunn #cssanimations In this Pure CSS Rhombus Tutorial, we are going to create a scss mixin for rhombus, the height of the rhombus can be adjusted by passing a parameter to mixin. first we create a div with a class of rhombus and extend this mixin. assuming that the rhombus div shoild contain 5 sides, we will add 5 span elements inside the rhombus div. using the mixin we set the height and width of the mixin and similarly we will set the height and width of side elements to zero. we will make use of border-bottom on the four sides setting the border-top on the side elements to none. the left border and right border are half of the length passed as a parameter. we will apply transformations on the side elements and translate them via z axis to the pre calculated distance and setting the angle to 30deg. so we will apply transformations positively and negatively depending on the requirment respectively. and finally we will make the last side to sit at the bottom as a base forming a perfect rhombus 3d shape using scss mixin and css. Samuelin esittelemät käytännöt ovat erityisen käyttökelpoisia suuriin projekteihin sekä tiimityönä tehtävään kehitystyöhön. Tässä vinkit listattuna, katso videolta tarkemmin! 1) Nimeä CSS-elementit kunnolla Samuel suosittelee BEM:in käyttöä (Block Element Modifier). Lue lisää: https://sass-guidelin.es/#the-7-1-pattern 3) Älä anna tiedostojen paisua Jos CSS-tiedostosi lukeminen kestää tunteja, pilko se pienempiin, helpommin käsiteltäviin komponentteihin. 4) Käytä mixin- ja extend-funktioita Ovatko mixin- ja extend sinulle tuttuja? Kannattaa tutustua, katso videolta Samuelin vinkki! 5) Tarkista CSS-output Nykyajan CSS-prosessorien kanssa harva enää vilkuilee lopullista CSS-tiedostoa. WordPress Theme Development: Creating Custom Walker Nav Menus

31:11
Hey, guys! What's going on over there? This is Kimsea from basicblogtalk.com. Welcome to lesson 4 or 3.1 of the WordPress development for beginners. This tutorial will teach you how to create Extends Walker Nav Menu to customize custom menus of your WordPress theme. ...but before I'm going to show you how to work with it, please lets me review the previous lesson and its issue. Last week, in the previous lesson, you've learnt how to register the navigation menus. I used register_nav_menus to create menu manager for the backend users. Also, the wp_nav_menu to display the menus where you want it to appear. At the meantime, I used some arguments of the wp_nav_menu to integrate the menus with bootstrap 3. As you can see, we've built 2 beautiful navigation menus in the frontend page of theme. There is a problem, however, when I try to create child menu or submenu in the current displayed menus. The bootstrap framwork didn't regconize the submenu items of the WordPress HTML classes. So, It made the navigation menus look pretty bad... And the most terrible is, we cannot fix the problem using the wp_nav_menu function. It's the reason I come up with today tutorial: How to Create Extends Walker Nav Menu. In the video, I will reveal how to make three walker classes for 3 different menu locations. So after finished the tutorial, you will be able to create some kind of these beautiful custom menus: 1) The dropdown menu on the top of your WordPress theme 2) The dropup menu at the buttom of the fotter of your theme 3) The popup overlap menu which appear when your clicked on the menu button There we go then... How does extends work in PUG - Meet Pug 17

09:20
Let's talk about how does extends work in PUG This is one of the most asked questions by beginners and a powerful skill to master Pug supports template inheritance. Template inheritance works via the block and extends keywords. In a template, a block is simply a "block" of Pug that a child template may replace. This process is recursive. Pug blocks can provide default content, if appropriate. Providing default content is purely optional, though. #codetap Table of contents 0 - How to save time writing HTML using PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dCDu_8EVFA&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 1 - The Best HTML template engine for Front-End Developers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBzzqqhNjjs&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 2 - How you can improve the workflow of writing HTML? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dcd9nZkj9GY&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 3 - How do you write HTML attributes using PUG - part 1? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsCrFd7-ssE&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 4 - How do you write quoted HTML attributes using PUG - part 2? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkM-o6e3EcY&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 5 - How to quickly make your code open source? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JTgWIGjn2Y&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 6 - How do you write unescaped and boolean HTML attributes using PUG - part 3? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSxGeeicIAc&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 7 - How do you write style and class attributes using PUG - part 4? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IQowsOxT8s&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 8 - How do you write ID and &attributes using PUG - part 5? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjdkTQeenyc&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 9 - Case statement in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTn1RKQeOsk&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 10 - Buffered and Unbuffered code in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22pO__2C1rU&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 11 - Writing comments in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBAzvaNdqAY&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 12 - If, Else and unless - Conditionals in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7si7_nBxb0&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 13 - Doctype in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Epr7wOUBjjE&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 14 - How to use filters in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfCIp2qSOdc&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 15 - The mighty powerful include in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePaL3p9S6Ec&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 16 - How to include static files in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S93QkHbQVE&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 17 - How does extends work in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yaHNIashKc&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 18 - How does extends and block work in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY3E5vBURbI&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 19 - How to send data through block to extends in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAKEqCSbZP8&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 20 - String and Tag Interpolation in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6WQFkME4ww&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 21 - How to iterate or loop in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qti51peM_KU&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 22 - How to make use of mixins in PUG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4MnDQGoLj0&list=PLlgRhtOkjmmAvyOIKHWfU-DVrLqRePWa1 # Help CodeTap You can help CodeTap for as little as $1 per month To Become a CodeTap patreon today, visit: https://patreon.com/codetap # Connect with CodeTap YouTube https://youtube.com/codetap FaceBook https://facebook.com/codetap Twitter https://twitter.com/codetapio Instagram https://instagram.com/codetapio Like, Share and Subscribe. ### What do you get with CodeTap? ### Build websites and get paid $30,000 - $40,000 and reach as much as $200,000 per year as a senior web developer with or without any knowledge of coding. 20 years of experience crammed into one master plan will be revealed to you, full of shortcuts to empower you to build websites from day one and learn how to while you do it. Tachyons CSS Library -- How to Build a Custom Button

16:23
https://plnkr.co/edit/ZBANcQ?p=preview The link above will take you to the Plunker used in this video https://medium.com/@dakotaleemartinez/keeping-your-css-dry-with-tachyons-bb1c0dc66dce#.8iuwukve7 This link will take you to my blog post about Keeping your CSS Dry with Tachyons. If you want to learn how to customize the styling of your elements in a way that protects you from EESS (Ever Expanding Stylesheet Syndrome), check out tachyons.io. It's a really awesome lightweight CSS library that consists of 47 modules that you can install via NPM or include all at once from a CDN (checkout http://tachyons.io for the link to the CDN) or you can just follow along with the plunker linked at the top of this description. This is also a great way for beginners to get started with the different CSS properties and the effects that they have on elements within a page. I think this is true because it allows you to work within the browser, applying classes to an element to apply styles to it, forcing you to think about what you're doing rather than just applying a Bootstrap class. Tachyons allows you to build what you want, customizing the appearance of individual elements by applying different combinations of classes to them. This allows you to do all sorts of customizations without constantly adding to your CSS. When you do want to add some styles that tachyons doesn't offer, it encourages you to use small declarations and semantic CSS selectors (matching the style of tachyons). When you do that, you have even more helpful classes that you'll actually be able to reuse to extend your application.
