Literally "beautiful singing", bel canto opera derives from the Italian stylistic singing school of the same name. Bel canto lines are typically florid and intricate, requiring supreme agility and pitch control. The bel canto era style was rapidly popularized by Giuseppe Verdi, beginning with his biblical opera Nabucco. Verdi's operas resonated with the growing spirit of Italian nationalism in the post-Napoleonic era, and he quickly became an icon of the patriotic movement (although his own politics were perhaps not quite so radical). In the early 1850s, Verdi produced his three most popular operas: Rigoletto, Il trovatore and La traviata. But he continued to develop his style, composing perhaps the greatest French Grand opera, Don Carlos, and ending his career with two Shakespeare-inspired works, Otello and Falstaff, which reveal how far Italian opera had grown in sophistication since the early 19th century. After Verdi, the sentimental "realistic" melodrama of verismo appeared in Italy. This was a style introduced by Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and Ruggiero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci that came virtually to dominate the world's opera stages with such popular works as Giacomo Puccini's La Boheme, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly. Later Italian composers, such as Berio and Nono, have experimented with modernism IL BEL CANTO LIRICO DI ITALIA L'Associazione "Il Bel Canto" programma le proprie attività concertistiche in Italia e nel mondo. The Best of Rimsky-Korsakov

01:17:06
The Best of Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov (18 March [O.S. 6 March] 1844 -- 21 June [O.S. 8 June] 1908) Rimsky-Korsakov believed, as did fellow composer Mily Balakirev and critic Vladimir Stasov, in developing a nationalistic style of classical music. This style employed Russian folk song and lore along with exotic harmonic, melodic and rhythmic elements in a practice known as musical orientalism, and eschewed traditional Western compositional methods. However, Rimsky-Korsakov appreciated Western musical techniques after he became a professor of musical composition, harmony and orchestration at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1871. He undertook a rigorous three-year program of self-education and became a master of Western methods, incorporating them alongside the influences of Mikhail Glinka and fellow members of The Five. His techniques of composition and orchestration were further enriched by his exposure to the works of Richard Wagner. For much of his life, Rimsky-Korsakov combined his composition and teaching with a career in the Russian military—at first as an officer in the Imperial Russian Navy, then as the civilian Inspector of Naval Bands. He wrote that he developed a passion for the ocean in childhood from reading books and hearing of his older brother's exploits in the navy. This love of the sea might have influenced him to write two of his best-known orchestral works, the musical tableau Sadko (not his later opera of the same name) and Scheherazade. Through his service as Inspector of Naval Bands, Rimsky-Korsakov expanded his knowledge of woodwind and brass playing, which enhanced his abilities in orchestration. He passed this knowledge to his students, and also posthumously through a textbook on orchestration that was completed by his son-in-law, Maximilian Steinberg. Rimsky-Korsakov left a considerable body of original Russian nationalist compositions. He prepared works by The Five for performance, which brought them into the active classical repertoire (although there is controversy over his editing of the works of Modest Mussorgsky), and shaped a generation of younger composers and musicians during his decades as an educator. Rimsky-Korsakov is therefore considered "the main architect" of what the classical music public considers the Russian style of composition. His influence on younger composers was especially important, as he served as a transitional figure between the autodidactism which exemplified Glinka and The Five and professionally trained composers which would become the norm in Russia by the closing years of the 19th century. While Rimsky-Korsakov's style was based on those of Glinka, Balakirev, Hector Berlioz, and Franz Liszt, he "transmitted this style directly to two generations of Russian composers" and influenced non-Russian composers including Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Paul Dukas and Ottorino Respi Scheherazade: 0:00 The Sea and Sinbad's Ship 9:59 The Story of the Kalander Prince 22:52 The Young Prince and the Young Princess 33:31 Festival at Baghdad - The Sea - Shipwreck Capriccio Espagnol: 46:36 Alborada - Vivo e strepitoso 47:47 Variazioni: Andante con moto 52:34 Alborada. Never, under any circumstances, sing by “pushing” or forcing your body to do things it is resisting. Gripping, tightness, constriction and all forms of tension are to be avoided at all times. If you are experiencing any results that are anything other then complete freedom from tension and gripping, then you are not executing these techniques properly and you are not using your voice in a healthy way and should stop immediately. Singing with distortion can be dangerous if you are not trained properly on the techniques to do it in a healthier way, you can injure yourself. If you are susceptible to throat injury, have a history of throat illness, smoke, or have not been approved by your doctor to train modern vocal techniques, you should consult a medical professional prior to viewing video tutorials, taking private vocal lessons or group classes with Mary Zimmer and VoiceHacks, LLC. By participating in private one-on-one Skype video call vocal lessons or group classes with Mary Zimmer, you agree that there are inherent risks in vocal training and singing aggressively. By becoming a member of VoiceHacks.Net to view the full-length video tutorials, you atree that there are inherent risks in vocal training and singing aggressively. Voice Hacks LLC and Mary Zimmer are not responsible for your occupational hazard and your choice to sing. If you ever feel pain, tension or gripping at any time before, during, or after singing, DO NOT CONTINUE TO SING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. If pain persists, see a medical professional. Opera Music / Classical Piece From Fight Club

00:59
Hi. After watching the film Fight Club several times over, I noticed this part of what sounds like an opera piece, approximately 9 minutes into the film. I couldn't find it on the soundtrack or the internet so I transcribed it using some software off the internet and made an mp3 of it, hence the poor orchestration and quality. I would really appreciate any help in discovering what the name of this piece is, where it's from or even if it was just a piece they recorded for the film. If you would like to see my transcription just send me a message. Thanks Download the MP3 here: https://soundcloud.com/bigangus23/fight-club-operaorchestra-piece NOTE: This piece is NOT "Tzigany Waltz" by George Fenton & John Leach, which is available via Associated Production Music. That particular piece is, as the title suggests, an imitation of Slavic folk music in the style of a waltz. [BigAngus23 - 26/03/2014]

He has maintained worldwide renown as a leading musician of his era, one whose "poetic genius was based on a professional technique that was without equal in his generation." All of Chopin's compositions include the piano. Most are for solo piano, though he also wrote two piano concertos, a few chamber pieces, and some 19 songs set to Polish lyrics. His piano writing was technically demanding and expanded the limits of the instrument: his own performances were noted for their nuance and sensitivity. Chopin invented the concept of the instrumental ballade. His major piano works also include mazurkas, waltzes, nocturnes, polonaises, études, impromptus, scherzos, preludes and sonatas, some published only posthumously. Among the influences on his style of composition were Polish folk music, the classical tradition of J. S. Bach, Mozart, and Schubert, and the atmosphere of the Paris salons of which he was a frequent guest. His innovations in style, harmony, and musical form, and his association of music with nationalism, were influential throughout and after the late Romantic period. Daring to give love one last chance, a glamorous courtesan leaves her wealthy protector for a beguiling young man. But as she chases after a new life, her past is never far behind. Puccini decided to write his only full-length comic opera in the style of Der Rosenkavalier, ‘only more entertaining and more organic’. This concert performance sees conductor Jānis Liepiņš and Azerbaujani soprano Dinara Alieva pair up once again after their stunning performance of ‘Sola, perduta abbandonata’ at the Latvian National Opera's Anniversary Gala. One genre that arose in response to this demand was the opera paraphrase. Many composers, especially instrumentalist-composers, wrote transcriptions of famous arias and fantasies on themes from popular operas for every instrument, but the violin, with its singing tone, lent itself particularly well to the operatic style. Many outstanding violinists made their contributions to the genre, such as Niccolo Paganini, the majority of whose output consisted of operatic paraphrases; the Spanish virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate; Fritz Kreisler, who was one of the most popular instrumentalists of the first half of the 20th century; and the great teacher Leopold Auer, two of whose finest students, Jascha Heifetz and Efrem Zimbalist, are also represented on this program.
