Why Has an Index Broken My Query?

06:02
Sometimes Oracle can give unexpected exceptions. This often happens when working with dates stored as strings. In this video, Chris investigates why adding an index to a varchar storing dates could cause a query to fail. He explains why this happens. Then he shows workaround to avoid this. Create a Warren Buffett Index Fund [Build it Like Buffett]

10:58
Warren Buffett may be the most popular investor in history but how do you invest like the Oracle of Omaha? Buffett has a unique investing style that goes against a core concept of investing you hear from most experts. It’s going to surprise a lot of people but Warren Buffett really doesn’t think much of diversification and index funds. Against just about every investing expert, Buffett says you only need diversification when you don’t know what you’re doing. The problem is, how do you invest like the Oracle of Omaha? Can you set up a portfolio to track his stocks, like a Warren Buffett index fund? To do exactly that, I reached out to investing guru Julie Rains. We worked together on a chapter-by-chapter review of The Intelligent Investor, one of the best Buffett books you can read and I couldn’t wait to get her on as part of our expert interview series. - How would you define the Warren Buffett investing strategy? - What are some of the ways or fundamentals to look for when picking stocks like Warren Buffett? - What are your favorite Warren Buffett stocks? - What stocks do you think Buffett is wrong about? We can also say that SQL tables are kind of data structure which are used by database for efficient storage of data. To create a table in our database we use SQL CREATE TABLE command. SQL CREATE TABLE is a type of DATA DEFINITION LANGUAGE also known as DDL. To Create a table in your schema you will require CREATE TABLE system privilege. In our future videos we will see what are system and object privileges and how to grant them to a user. Today for this video we will be using Sample schema HR which already has all the necessary privileges. Ohk Let's see the syntax. CREATE TABLE table name ( column name1 Data-Type(size), column name2 Data-Type(size), ..... ); CREATE TABLE is an oracle reserved word or say an Oracle key word whereas There are 3 different ways of creating a table in Oracle database. Creating a table using Command Line Interface (CLI) in Oracle database For demonstrating how to create table in oracle database using CLI, I'll be using Command prompt. Thats how we create table using command prompt. you can check your table structure by DESCRIBE command for that just write DESC and your table name. Like this Another way of creating a table is by using Graphic user interface (GUI) in Oracle database To demonstrate how to create table using GUI we will use SQL developer. Lets open our SQL developer I am connected to HR schema if you do not know how to create a connection to database using SQL developer please watch my oracle database tutorial 4 that explains database connectivity using SQL developer and command prompt. Link for this video is in the description below. So lets create a table. Creating a table using SQL developer is very easy we do not have to fire any query here. Let's start First of all right click on your connection in which you want to create a table and choose schema browser. This will open a separate schema browser pane or you can expend your connection by clicking this + sign and then right click on table and choose New Table. However I prefer working with schema browser so let's skip to schema browser pane here from the first drop-down list you can choose connection name and in the second drop down list you can choose what database objects you want to work with we want to create a table thus I'll choose table and then click this arrow here and choose option for new table Ok we have created a table wizard first of all give a unique name to your table and add some column as well. For this, click the green plus button. Now we already have a column so give it some name. Also choose a datatype from the list and specify any size you can check this not null column if in case you want to make this a mandatory column you can also specify default value and constraint If you want to make this column a primary key you can click here In my future video i'll show you what are these constraints and different ways of applying them on a column in a table. for this video we will concentrate on create table only so when you are done with all your columns click ok Thats your table You can double click on your table here and can see its structure. Thats it

JSON Filtered Indexes

05:01
Generally, it's possible to get really fast query performance with JSON in SQL Server by building appropriate indexes on your data. But what if you want to add an index conditionally, only on certain rows? Filtered indexes can work, but there are a few things to be aware of. All about Indexing with Gail Shaw

58:21
Indexes are essential to good database performance, but it can be hard to decide what indexes to create and the ‘rules’ around indexes often appear to be vague or downright contradictory. In this session we’ll dive deep into indexes, have a look at their architecture and internal structure and how that affects the way that indexes are used in query execution. We’ll look at why clustered indexes are recommended on almost all tables and how their architecture affects the choice of columns. We’ll look at nonclustered indexes; their architecture and how query design affects what indexes should be created to support various queries. Gail Shaw is a database specialist from Johannesburg, South Africa, specializing in performance tuning and database optimization. She works for Entelect, a medium-sized custom software development house. Gail is a frequent poster on the SQLServerCentral.com forums and writes for Simple-Talk. She is an MVP for SQL Server and holds the Microsoft Certified Master certification for SQL Server.

With Oracle 12c and Flashback Archiving, building an evolutionary trail of your data is now easier. Regulatory compliance has mandated a history of data changes related to certain information, resulting in organizations creating their own methods for archiving data and purging obsolete data. Most often these methods have to be complimented with business applications and processes, which can be costly over time. During this presentation, you will learn how to take advantage of the new data archiving features to manage historical data and provide a timeline of the data lifecycle. Create and Manage Full Text Indexes in MS SQL(2/2)

09:33
The information in full-text indexes is used by the Full-Text Engine to compile full-text queries that can quickly search a table for particular words or combinations of words. A full-text index stores information about significant words and their location within one or more columns of a database table. A full-text index is a special type of token-based functional index that is built and maintained by the Full-Text Engine for SQL Server. The process of building a full-text index differs from building other types of indexes. Instead of constructing a B-tree structure based on a value stored in a particular row, the Full-Text Engine builds an inverted, stacked, compressed index structure based on individual tokens from the text being indexed. ------------- May be you like this -------------- Our channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/gofreelancertutorials Interest to donate : https://www.paypal.me/gofreelancer RavenDB playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8M4eIgzMHo&list=PLv0T7WlllnSnxvVNZR7CHVR0hR-8t69ow KnockoutJs Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3IWQg1TfdA&list=PLv0T7WlllnSk2iDeqcwRyty__TRJMgGhr Wcf playlist : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-6wGwiaDj4&list=PLv0T7WlllnSnulXRU200Lx97e_pJrGGfo Wcf restful playlist : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB4k0RC6vl0&list=PLv0T7WlllnSmcGHacEQnLgKvitcJEsSl6 Angularjs playlist : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXjD1RiAz1U&list=PLv0T7WlllnSkCfNftTNY8tWqCFWT0sIMd c# playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrP0NKbsr8s&list=PLv0T7WlllnSl9pZWMaMGsyoAmqZtW4gM0 google maps playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3lci2cE05M&list=PLv0T7WlllnSnXz4EiDxNA5OWnfr5xgig umbraco playlist : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoefdruzmGE&list=PLv0T7WlllnSnYRedhwL8x-atkVxrSdd3m jquery playlist : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVncasz_iyw&list=PLv0T7WlllnSkkNahiiWu_GMXq49X5ccfe

Simplified DBA-019-Data Concurrency and Locks

03:56
DATA CONCURRENCY More than one user connections ( session ) can access same data. For example user1 and user2 can view same employee information at the same time. But not two users can modify same data in one time. This is maintained by oracle lock mechanism. Before the database allows a session to modify data, the session must first lock the data that is being modified. A lock gives the session exclusive control over the data so that no other transaction can modify the locked data until the lock is released. Transactions can lock individual rows of data, multiple rows, or even entire tables. Oracle Database supports both manual and automatic locking. Automatically acquired locks always choose the lowest possible level of locking to minimize potential conflicts with other transactions. Demo: User1 is modifying an employee. User1 session will acquire a lock on the row. Same time user2 is trying to modify same employee. Since User1 has acquired lock, user2 has to wait until user1 releases the lock. Manual locking is possible. A user can place a lock manually as follows: LOCK TABLE mytable1 IN EXCLUSIVE MODE; With the preceding statement, any other transaction that tries to update a row in the locked table must wait until the transaction that issued the lock request completes. EXCLUSIVE is the strictest lock mode. The following are the other lock modes: ROW SHARE: Permits concurrent access to the locked table but prohibits sessions from locking the entire table for exclusive access ROW EXCLUSIVE: Is the same as ROW SHARE, but also prohibits locking in SHARE mode. The ROW EXCLUSIVE locks are automatically obtained when updating, inserting, or deleting data. ROW EXCLUSIVE locks allow multiple readers and one writer. SHARE: Permits concurrent queries but prohibits updates to the locked table. A SHARE lock is required (and automatically requested) to create an index on a table. However, online index creation requires a ROW SHARE lock that is used when building the index.

http://www.LLVM.org/devmtg/2017-10/ — Adding Index‐While‐Building and Refactoring to Clang - Alex Lorenz and Nathan Hawes Slides: http://llvm.org/devmtg/2017-10/slides/Lorenz-Hawes-Index%20while%20building%20and%20refactoring%20in%20Clang.pdf — This talk details the Clang enhancements behind the new index‐while‐building functionality and refactoring engine introduced in Xcode 9. We first describe the new -index-store-path option, which provides indexing data as part of the compilation process without adding significantly to build times. The design, data model, and implementation of this feature are detailed for potential adopters and contributors. The second part of the talk introduces Clang's new refactoring engine, which builds on Clang's libTooling. We list the set of supported refactoring actions, illustrate how a new action can be constructed, and describe how the engine can be used by end users and adopted by IDEs. We also outline the design of the engine and describe the advanced refactoring capabilities planned for the future. — Videos Filmed & Edited by Bash Films: http://www.BashFilms.com

The 5 Ways of Building Oracle Applications: How to Choose - Sten Vesterli

58:08
"This presentation examines all of the most important development tools and technologies available from Oracle today, discussing the strong and weak points of each: • Oracle Forms (the classic Oracle development tool, PL/SQL logic, data-driven design) • Application Development Framework (declarative development with JDeveloper, Java business logic, user-interface-driven design) • Application Express (declarative development in web browser, PL/SQL business logic, data-driven design) • JavaScript Extension Framework (brand-new JavaScript-based framework for building the user interface layer) • Mobile Application Framework (specialized ADF-like tool for building mobile applications, generating native iOS and Android applications) The presentation is concluded with an overview and recommendation for how to choose the right tool and application development approach."

Part 2 SQL query to get organization hierarchy

Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/05/part-2-sql-query-to-get-organization.html To get the best out of this video, the following concepts need to be understood first. These are already discussed in SQL Server Tutorial. 1. Self-Join - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnYSN_7qwgg 2. CTE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXB5b-7HJHk 3. Recursive CTE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGoV0wTMCg0 Here is the problem definition: 1. Employees table contains the following columns a) EmployeeId, b) EmployeeName c) ManagerId 2. If an EmployeeId is passed, the query should list down the entire organization hierarchy i.e who is the manager of the EmployeeId passed and who is managers manager and so on till full hierarchy is listed. For example, Scenario 1: If we pass David's EmployeeId to the query, then it should display the organization hierarchy starting from David. Scenario 2: If we pass Lara's EmployeeId to the query, then it should display the organization hierarchy starting from Lara. We will be Employees table for this demo. SQL to create and populate Employees table with test data Create table Employees ( EmployeeID int primary key identity, EmployeeName nvarchar(50), ManagerID int foreign key references Employees(EmployeeID) ) GO Insert into Employees values ('John', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Mark', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Tom', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Lara', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Simon', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('David', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Stacy', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Sam', NULL) GO Update Employees Set ManagerID = 8 Where EmployeeName IN ('Mark', 'Steve', 'Lara') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 2 Where EmployeeName IN ('Stacy', 'Simon') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 3 Where EmployeeName IN ('Tom') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 5 Where EmployeeName IN ('John', 'Sam') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 4 Where EmployeeName IN ('David') GO Here is the SQL that does the job Declare @ID int ; Set @ID = 7; WITH EmployeeCTE AS ( Select EmployeeId, EmployeeName, ManagerID From Employees Where EmployeeId = @ID UNION ALL Select Employees.EmployeeId , Employees.EmployeeName, Employees.ManagerID From Employees JOIN EmployeeCTE ON Employees.EmployeeId = EmployeeCTE.ManagerID ) Select E1.EmployeeName, ISNULL(E2.EmployeeName, 'No Boss') as ManagerName From EmployeeCTE E1 LEFT Join EmployeeCTE E2 ON E1.ManagerID = E2.EmployeeId
