By default, browsers will apply CSS styles to the HTML code. Resets, like Eric Meyer's CSS reset, exist for the purpose of getting ride of these default styles to create more cross-browser consistency. While useful, they are not always appropriate for every situation. Related Links - http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/css/reset/

03:59
In web design, you can declare an element's width and/or height using either fixed values or relative values. This video covers the most commonly used dimensions (outside of ems): 1. Auto-sizing (auto) 2. Pixels (px) 3. Percentage (%) 4. Viewport height (vh) 5. Viewport width (vw) 6. Minimum (min) and maximum (max) You can adjust an element's width and height in the Styles Panel, under the Layout section. The program I am using to demonstrate this align change, is going to be Dreamweaver CS6. Centering a website in dreamweaver is very simple and only takes a few steps. Start by opening your HTML editor, which will be Dreamweaver in my case. Then, Load the web page you are going to be working with. In this example, my website has a bright green background. The D I V box, where all my website content goes, has a white background. However, unlike a normal website, it is pushed to the left of the screen. Follow these few steps to center your box. Go to the style sheet, and add a few properties to the D I V box that you want to center. Add a new property, and type, margin, dash, left, colon, space, auto, and semicolon. Then add another property, and type, margin, dash, right, colon, space, auto, and semicolon. If you are having trouble with this additional code, you can find it in the description. TaDah, just like that, your website is centered. If you have any problems, or questions, send me a message, and I would be glad to help. I hope you liked this tutorial, please like my videos, and subscribe to my channel. Don't be afraid to ask questions. ADD THIS CODE TO YOUR STYLES SHEET: margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;

CSS video tutorial - 10 - CSS Cascade Vs CSS Inheritance

17:58
Cascade vs. Inheritance Cascade: deals with precedence of style rules or CSS properties (i.e. the order in which properties are applied to an html element). It solves conflict situations. Let me ask you a question: What happens when we define set of style rules for a specific tag in external, internal as well as inline styles? The answer is: “rules get’s cascade” When we define a set of style rules for a specific tag in external, internal as well as inline style, then browser creates a virtual declaration list by merging all style rules together by following rules of cascade, and then applies the merged virtual declaration list to specified tag. The rules of the cascade include: 1. Later properties (nearest) override earlier (farthest) properties 2. More specific selectors (less generic) override less specific (more generic) selectors Inheritance: deals with how styles poured down from a parent element to its child elements. Certain properties, like font-family gets inherited. If you set a font-family on the body element, then it will get inherited by all the elements within the body. The same is true for color, but it is not true for background color, border-style,margin or height which will always default to transparent, none, auto and auto. ======================================================== Follow the link for next video: https://youtu.be/WwTIrUrnFPA Follow the link for previous video: https://youtu.be/uIjQeBemGgE ========= For more benefits & Be up to date =================== Subscribe to "chidres tech tutorials" channel: it's free Visit to Chidre's Tech Tutorials website: https://www.chidrestechtutorials.com Like the Facebook fan page: https://www.facebook.com/ManjunathChidre ======================================================== ========== CSS Questions & Answers ======================== 1. A simple CSS hack to create overlays without the use of the dreaded negative margins. It must be noted that these tutorials are experimental and are created to hopefully inspire viewers to learn more CSS. You may run into some issues with using fixed height sections particularly with content that is designed to rescale such as text falling out of the container. But i hope you learn something and are inspired to learn more. CSS Code to be added to the parent section container: selector { height: 400px; }

Margin or Padding?

Learn the differences between margin and padding and how to use them in your next awesome website project. Project Resources ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.mediafire.com/download/bsy797rpncb98ez/Padding_or_Margin_-_When_to_use_-_By_Tech_Tzu.7z Tools ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brackets, FREE code editor http://brackets.io/ Emmet, super speed coding addon http://emmet.io/ Beautify, turning your ugly code into beautiful script https://github.com/brackets-beautify/brackets-beautify Transcription ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi and welcome to one of the most important tutorials from me and this tutorial will be very important for you to understand because margin and padding are the core of the HTML and CSS because you build layouts with them. Okay to understand it, the best is to try to use it, of course. Okay, first of all, we will try to understand the padding, so to understand the padding just add one div okay and inside that div, just add one paragraph and some text. some text we will just copy paste few times so we have the meat of our website. As you can see, nothing happens especially, so, let's go to our main.css and let's style a bit our div. Okay, our div will be, I prepared some background color and something like this, so you don't need to write all things down. It's just so we can see more clearly okay. To understand the padding let's just add padding so let's see what's what is going to do. Padding let's say 50 pixels. Ta da :) what just we do what we just do? We add these white space around our text, as you can see we add to our div we add to our div and the white space so the padding squeeze, squeeze the text inside are div. You can see of course if we say it's 20 pixels the white space around our text will be smaller so let's just keep it back to 50 pixels let's let's move on. Watch carefully, because if you have your div with some height and weight it will be it will be some errors, so let's say the width will be 500 pixels. Nothing happens, still, it looks pretty solid, pretty straightforward. Okay but if we add height to our div for example also 500 pixels, as you can see we make this thing a bigger, and that this is not the right way because what if our height is 100 pixels? We can see, we broke the layout, we broke these things okay? So, if you want to be clean, just never add the height to your to your outer div, because it will break it okay? it's pretty easy to understand. Okay, let's add to our body some padding, why? Because let's check it out: padding lets say again 50 pixels. As you can see, we move our website so our body is also a div, with the name of body, and we add the padding of 50pixels. If we add a 30 pixels, you can see, it's looking pretty, pretty awesome. Okay, this is a padding, it's a pretty simple, pretty simple concept if you add padding top, it will add just the top. If you add padding right it will add just 50 pixels on the padding right okay? let's remove this width, and let's say the padding will be 50 pixels all around. Let's head back to our index HTML and let's just copy our div, just copy it and paste it down here in the margin section. Okay, because we will now learn the margin. Margin is a bit tricky but it's also simple one, once you understand the margin everything else will be pretty simple pretty easy. As you can see our margin is it not our white space around here it's a space outside our container. You can't see the margin so let's just add margin of also 50 pixels. Sorry, as you can see we squeeze, squeeze our container inside let's say it's a 70 pixels let's say it's a 90 pixels. You got it! :) let's head back to the 50 pixels. So, this is a 50 pixels all around our div. It's all around our div.So, you can adjust okay? For example, if we add another div, just copy it again and paste it down here below this div. You can see we now have two divs, with the same margin. For example, if you if you say the margin bottom, bottom is 50 pixels, it will be only the margin bottom 50 pixels
