NEIL YOUNG - OLD MAN

04:09
Sing-A-Long Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were. Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were. Old man look at my life, Twenty four and there's so much more Live alone in a paradise That makes me think of two. Love lost, such a cost, Give me things that don't get lost. Like a coin that won't get tossed Rolling home to you. Old man take a look at my life I'm a lot like you I need someone to love me the whole day through Ah, one look in my eyes and you can tell that's true. Lullabies, look in your eyes, Run around the same old town. Doesn't mean that much to me To mean that much to you. I've been first and last Look at how the time goes past. But I'm all alone at last. Rolling home to you. Old man take a look at my life I'm a lot like you I need someone to love me the whole day through Ah, one look in my eyes and you can tell that's true. Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were. Old man look at my life, I'm a lot like you were. Recorded 23rd February 1971 BBC Television Theatre, Shepherd's Bush, London.

A variety of up-coming rock oriented bands were showcased live from small venues and broadcast simultaneously on television and radio during a 40-50 minute live performance. The venues were small University, Polytechnic or College halls holding a few thousand persons which gave a more intimate atmosphere than larger venues and often tickets were given to the Students' Union to distribute for free (to ensure that the concert halls were full) - effectively an invited audience. The bands chosen were also bands which did not have a mainstream following at that time although many went on to be very successful. A BBC DJ would also be present to introduce the band for the television audience. The original broadcasts were transmitted on television as well as Sight and Sound in Concert; a BBC initiative to provide simultaneous pictures on BBC2 and stereo radio broadcasts on BBC Radio 1 (as stereo television broadcasts and receivers did not exist at the time). It allowed rock enthusiasts to enjoy the event with an improved sound quality.

The Secret Policeman's Other Ball was the fourth of the benefit shows staged by the British Section of Amnesty International to raise funds for its research and campaign work in the human rights field. It was the second of many shows to bear the celebrated Secret Policeman's title that became the iconic series known informally as The Secret Policeman's Balls. The show took place in London in September 1981. It was a successor to the 1979 show The Secret Policeman's Ball. The show was directed by Monty Python alumnus John Cleese and produced by Martin Lewis & Peter Walker [1] (Amnesty's fundraising officer). It subsequently yielded two separate movies (one version for the UK, directed by Julien Temple, and a quite different version for the US) and two record albums (one each of comedy and music performances). The show was very influential in galvanizing rock musicians to become involved in the human rights issue and in other political and social causes in subsequent decades. Musicians who performed at the show who subsequently became activists in various fields include Sting, Bob Geldof, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and Midge Ure.

PHIL COLLINS - IN THE AIR TONIGHT

05:11
Sing-a-Long I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord Ive been waiting for this moment, all my life, oh lord Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord Well, if you told me you were drowning I would not lend a hand Ive seen your face before my friend But I dont know if you know who I am Well, I was there and I saw what you did I saw it with my own two eyes So you can wipe off the grin, I know where youve been Its all been a pack of lies And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord Ive been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord And Ive been waiting for this moment all my life, oh lord, oh lord Well I remember, I remember dont worry How could I ever forget, its the first time, the last time we ever met But I know the reason why you keep your silence up, no you dont fool me The hurt doesnt show; but the pain still grows Its no stranger to you or me And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord... "In the Air Tonight" is a song by Phil Collins which first appeared on his 1981 album, Face Value. It was the first single of Collins' solo career, and remains one of his best known hits. Building on the success of Pete Townshends 1979 appearance Lewis recruited other rock musicians to perform at the 1981 show including Sting, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Donovan and Bob Geldof. The show was presented at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on four consecutive nights on September 9-12, 1981. "In the Air Tonight" remains, alone among Collins' solo oeuvre, a popular selection on many classic rock radio stations. It is the song most often associated with Collins' solo career, and he has performed versions of it at many events, notably at Live Aid, where he played the song on the same calendar day in both Philadelphia and London.[1] He also performed the song at The Secret Policeman's Ball.

NEXT TO YOU - THE POLICE

03:04
The Police, February 21, Hatfield Polytechnic Sing-a-long I can't stand it for another day When you live so many miles away. Nothing here is gonna make me stay, (You) took me over, let me find a way. I sold my house I sold my motor, too. All I want is to be Next To You. I'd rob a bank Maybe steal a plane. You took me over, Think I'm goin' insane. What can I do, All I want is to be next to you. What can I do, All I want is to be next to you. I've had a thousand girls or maybe more, But I've never felt like this before. [ Find more Lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.org/ERTQ ] But I just don't know what's come over me, You took me over, take a look at me. What can I do, All I want is to be next to you. What can I do, All I want is to be next to you. All I want is to be next to you, All I want is to be next to you, All I want is to be next to you. So many times I used to give a sign Got this feeling, gonna lose my mind. When all it is is just a love affair. You took me over baby, take me there. What can I do All I want is to be next to you What can I do All I want is to be next to you What can I do All I want is to be next to you What can I do All I want is to be next to you. All I want is to be next to you...

GET CAPE. WEAR CAPE. FLY - I COULD BUILD YOU A TOWER

04:10
Sing-A-Long You just sit there in silence whilst the world cries out in vain. On the television screens and the newspaper headlines we read today. There's a war going on in the middle east and the fallout affects us all, but nobody out there's prepared to talk. There's a war going on on our own front door step with the Jews and Islam-aphoebes because every time a bomb goes off we get religious probes. There will always be extremists acting in their names of god. But the gods they worship will never hear them call. I could build you a tower, I could set you apart from all the wars and the violence towards the pure of heart. I could build you a tower but they'll only burn it down. There's an 8 year old boy in Lebanon with a rifle in his hands, his parents betray his innocence as he's old enough to be a man, as a teenage boy in Columbine fires automatic rounds into the hordes of students as bodies hit the ground. The waters rise to enormous heights off the coast of North Korea, with all the weapons testing our worlds investing in nuclear fear, I'm counting down the days until this earth destroys itself, through our ignorance, gluteny and wealth. I could build you a tower, I could set you apart from all the wars and the violence towards the pure of heart. I could build you a tower but they'll only burn it down. I COULD BUILD YOU A TOWER aka YOU JUST SIT THERE IN SILENCE AS THE WORLD CRIES OUT IN VAIN By the greatest band of our days. GET CAPE. WEAR CAPE. FLY IS THE STAGE NAME OF ENGLISH ARTIST SAM DUCKWORTH AND HIS BAND. HE IS SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS GET CAPE, CAPE, GCWCF, SLAM DUNKWORTH, AND "CHARLIE CHARLES CHARLIE KHOO". ACCORDING TO DUCKWORTH, HIS STAGE NAME COMES FROM A ZX SPECTRUM MAGAZINE. ONE OF THE SECTIONS OF THE SOLUTION TO THE BATMAN COMPUTER GAME CONTAINED THE HEADER "GET CAPE. WEAR CAPE. FLY".

U2 - SOUTHERN MAN

02:51
Sing-a-Long Southern man better keep your head Don't forget what your good book said Southern change gonna come at last Now your crosses are burning fast Southern man I saw cotton and I saw black Tall white mansions and little shacks. Southern man when will you pay them back? I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking How long? How long? Southern man better keep your head Don't forget what your good book said Southern change gonna come at last Now your crosses are burning fast Southern man Lily Belle, your hair is golden brown I've seen your black man comin' round Swear by God I'm gonna cut him down! I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking How long? How long? 1981.02.28 - London, England - UK TV 'Old Grey Whistle Test' (Live) When The Old Grey Whistle Test went on air in 1971 it was unique. In a world accustomed to Top of the Pops, this was a show on which the bands performed album tracks and were interviewed after they had played. The music was live and, since the idea was to air new sounds, many of the bands were making their first television appearance. Presenter Bob Harris recalls how the show's name was inspired by the doormen (in grey suits) who worked at the music publishing houses in London's Denmark Street, known as 'tin pan alley': "It was a 'tin pan alley' phrase from years ago. When they got the first pressing of a record they would play it to people they called the old greys. The ones they could remember and could whistle having heard it just once or twice had passed the old grey whistle test." The program went out on BBC2, last thing on a Tuesday night. If things were going well on the show, it would stay on air. Some shows ended after 25 minutes while particularly good ones sometimes extended to an hour and a half. After an incredible 16 year run featuring the greatest artists from rock, country, punk, new wave and alternative, The Old Grey Whistle Test ended its historic broadcast life in 1987.
